Myself, I'd never buy anything non-metallic from Rackham, which also includes their rulebooks,

Oh, SNAP!

Sigged!

While funny and clever, I have to disagree.

C3.0 is actually a pretty good game.

Pretty good, but not that great. A lot of gaps still in the rules, and line of sight was just a mess as usual. It is fun, but there was a bit of a balance issue. Recosting the cards and doing something so that ranged fire was actually worth a damn would have fixed a lot of the issues. Still some translation errors. But I did like it.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Lest people think I'm just anti-Rackham as a whole, let it be stated for the record that I do own a bunch of their models (Vladar the Arrogant, one of the Cadwë Undertakers and a box of militia). They really are amazing sculpts.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I'm not that close a follower of the industry side of the business, but I have to wonder if this gamble on prepainted is Rackham trying to jump on a bandwagon that just isn't there.  Mongoose's decision to go with pre-paints for Battlefield:Evolution hasn't exactly been met with tremendous enthusiasm.  In fact, Mongoose had such a bad response to the initial pics of their product that they had to refit the entire thing and do another round of painting. And 8-10 minis for $25 isn't exactly a gateway price for a miniatures game.

I think Battlefield: Evolution will be the bellweather for whether or not a prepainted wargame can really survive without a secondary market (like RPG's for D&D miniatures, or fans for Star Wars games).  And then we'll see if Rackham has hitched its wagon to the right star.

Well, as sombeody  who is "in the industry", pre-paints are the golden way to Nivana. Battlefield had far from a "bad response", in fact Mongoose had to shift a large portion of stock from europe back to the US through ACD distribution to fill demand. BE has been out of stock since very shortly after it's release despite it's not living up to the initial photos Mongoose showed..

And in comparison to BE, AT-43 has been easy to get. Operation Damoclese sold out a week after it's release, and then the restock sold out too. We've had problems keeping it in stock at our store. Like it or not, pre-paints are the way of the future and just becuase you don't like them doesn't mean the vast majority of gamers, who have little time for painting full armies, agree with you. Painting figures is fun, I love it, but much of America has no time and less skill to do it, and non-random pre-painted plastics are the perfect solution to that, and sales show it.

As always, your mileage may vary. Both BE and AT-43 is sitting on the shelves not selling itself. Even after the AT-43 demo I think only one Damoclese set sold. It is all just gathering dust at the moment.

I think that varies a lot by each shop and which players you have. Most of the major gamers around here won't spend the cash on prepaints, when they can paint as good or better. The AH stuff is doing great though.

Not a big suprise that they do not sell well in your area with a Negative Nancy like you around.

You seem very vocal about your dislike of AT43.

It seems to be selling very well in my area. Which is suprising given that the full rules have not been released, and only 3 unit types of the armies being available.

so I guess this all mean that rackham isn't making plastic kits but in fact making everything pre-painted rubber .... f--- thats horrible, I was really starting to get into the models and was looking to pick up cadwallon too. not now. I'm on the wargames is a modeling hobby side of the fence...

I can swing either way. I like my prepaints as an interesting diversion, and a way to get minis for random D'n'D once offs easily.
But nothing beats the satisfaction of a fully painted army.(That you did yourself.)

And as much as I am against it on this board, I don't talk much about it around the shop. No reason to, no one talks about it.

I am one of the guys that WAS pushing Confrontation and running games of it though. I really liked the game and most of the figs. I like it a lot more than Warmachine. But in a lot of ways AT-43 is the anti-confrontation.

If it's all about the game, it better be a damn good game, and Rakham has never been that good about their rule sets. The Role playing game is just an overcomplicated mess. Wonderful setting and idea though.

Infinity will be taking the place of Confronation and At-43 for me.

Having just read the review on TGN, I'm going to buy into it and give it a try. From the sound of it I just might be headed the way you are, too.

"The convoluted wording of legalisms grew up around the necessity to hide from ourselves the violence we intend toward each other. Between depriving a man of one hour from his life and depriving him of his life there exists only a difference of degree. You have done violence to him, consumed his energy. Elaborate euphemisms may conceal your intent to kill, but behind any use of power over another the ultimate assumption remains: 'I feed on your energy.'" - Frank Herbert

One problem if you want to replace AT with Infinity is: it´s strictly skirmish and the game system doesn´t allow for games larger than 500 if it should be a halfways fast game. But if Skirmish is the thing you are looking for... than you are right. AT allows commando-operations but the system is focused on full scale operations.

I actually initially was into 40k for the skirmish aspect of it. It's not what it was, for sure....

Infinity looks to be about 20 figs max, which is what I liked about Confrontation. Have to play it out to see what it is like though.
