Usually this would be the case but against Eldar you are probably taking the psychic test on three dice not two and adding them together. Any result of 12 or greater causes perils of the warp. I'm not going to do the math but I am interested in the comparison, if anyone else feels so inclined, of what likelyhood will this be to inflict a wound vs rolling a 1 for daemon weapon?
Orion Well, that is certainly a consideration and one that was already pointed out above (was thinking more general terms). I hate the damned runes of warding. IIRC you take a S6 perils attack 124/216 for ld10. So 124/216 * 5/6 = ~48% Much greater then the ~17% for a daemon weapon. However, the sorcerer can choose not to use a power and therefore attack in close combat and never take a wound from perils. Anytime the lord attacks he has a chance of taking a wound and not attacking at all. That in and of itself is enough for me to prefer the sorcerer in all comers, even with eldar being a factor. I guess also the shooting attack doesn't really impress me much. Would rather have access to any of the other shooting powers and be able to attack in CC without worrying about rolling a 1.

I agree that taking a Sorcerer is better. Eldar RoW are the greatest fear for a psychic as SM Librarians call for a 'dice off' (LD 10 respectively). Just build something that wouldn't hurt you if you faced RoW, but would hold its own vs everything else.

I'd say that the demon weapons are at least as useful as a Sorcerors spells. Too bad about the wound.
Think of it this way: if you roll a 1 you're going to suck it up anyway. Just wait for next turn.

Or you could just buy two lightning claws and not worry about it.

So in my testing for Baltimore I?ve just tried out the unmarked Lord with JP & daemon weapon in a couple of games. I?ve avoided rolling the dreaded 1 so far, so my view may be skewed, but so far I definitely like him. S5 is obviously very important. The ability to hop and hide behind Rhinos and other squads is very nice. The DP is an obvious competitor due to his scoring status, but the IC targeting protection makes the S5 lord a reasonable option too. I?d really be tempted to field a sorcerer with Wind of Chaos (if you can?t score yourself, at least kill an enemy scoring unit or two!), but the presence of Eldrad and SM Epistolaries definitely hurts his value, whereas the S5 Lord can still chew up squads without being negated.
I think Lightning Claws are a solid option too, but they don't pump out quite the number of kills unless you go Mark of Khorne.

Would taking Deathscreamer be pretty much useless on a lord? From what I've read, it seems like the best combo for a Lord w/ MoT would be the Demonic Steed + Daemonweapon/Deathscreamer joined to a raptor squad. Otherwise if I want something different, I should stick him in terminator armor and a termie squad, or I should just grab a sorcerer for shooting?

Posted By VermGho5t on 10/20/2007 9:49 PM Would taking Deathscreamer be pretty much useless on a lord? I ran my old Kai Gun champ as a Deathscreamer lord this weekend, and will be keeping him as my HQ, at least until the warptime prince gets painted The lord maxed out his screamer shooting 2 turns in a row (rolled 6 twice), vaporizing crisis suits ftw. Then after a unit of plague marines took the entire Tau army's firepower, the lord shot out, slammed into some pathfinders and anihilated them with 8 attaks on the charge (rolled 4), then consolidated into a fleeing crisis. Unfortunately he didn't rally, which left the lord 2" in front of a broadside, a warfish, the rallied suit and a sniper drone team. Made many 4+ saves, but failed the 2 needed to plasma off his last wounds. But a good run, really liking a lord that can reach out and touch the enemy. - Salvage

I use a Terminator Lord with Twins Claws and Mark of Khorne, seems killy enough.
