Tau fluff is very explicitly "No titans. Ever. Seriously, gunships instead".

But hey, make a Tau titan. Put it on the shelf next to your tzeentch necrons and chaos grey knights.

As said, the Tau fluff is explicit about no Titans YET and them being pragmatical and the Titan thread being new to them. So there are scenarios possible (e.g. where flyers are out of question due to AA or atmospheric conditions) in a universe where Titans make sense, that Tau might also use their battle suit technology for bigger walkers.
