So you can combine crazy ideas and playable games. It's not as chaostic as random rolls but at least you can use it.

And that's where subsequent chaos books have failed in my mind, many have not had mutations at all, and the ones that have only included the good ones. Apparently these days there's no downside to worshiping the dark gods and growing slimy tentacles.

The Mordheim mutation table wasn't so bad, with (some) chance of Instant Death, Nothing Happens, and characteristic decrease.
