Awesome stuff.

I'm not sure how in the world yo'd manage to work randomness of this degree into a miniature game, but it sure is fun to look at!

Death By Monkeys - Bestial Face, Very Warty Skin, Long Legs

Well, one out of three ain't inaccurate...

What I loved in the following issues, though, were the Chaos Warbands that were showcased that not only showed the models, but gave stories on the evolution of the characters and their warbands. I mean, yeah, converting the models with new mutations each game had to be a pain, but it's not that much more extreme than Necromunda...(okay, well, maybe turning your Elf Ranger into a Half-Spider is more extreme....)

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

It's Crest, actually - like a rooster's crest. Still, not too pretty.

And some of these mutations were more useful than they initially appear - a good amount of them gave the mutant "fear points" which, if he got enough of them, would give him the ability to cause fear or terror.

Great thread, I'm going to look through my RoC books tonight.

Kid_Kyoto wrote:You see you were supposed to play a campaign where your character would start out as an ordinary human and rise in they eyes of the chaos gods, mutating and gaining power until he ultimately became a demon prince or a chaos spawn. And your model was supposed to WYSIWYG! So in these days of lead models and no bitz you might suddenly have to turn your elf ranger into a half-spider!

Oh and you were supposed to roll for your units too, so not only would you have convert each one according to random rolls, but somehow convince your opponent you really did roll up metal body, duplication and acid blood for each one.

Um, don't all of GW's skirmish campaign games do this, with required conversions of all the models?

So you agree with me now that the current Chaos Codex lacks flavour and theme?

C'mon. It doesn't get any more Chaos-y than a D1000 mutation table!!!

Oh, I agree that the books lack flavour and theme alright. I can't remember what I was arguing with you about. Oh, right, probably "counts as" or something. Going through the mutation tables, a large proportion of the mutations either give you +1 A or a Fear Point. Many mutations, with different names, are functionally the same. Just sayin'.

I love those old RoC books. However, if you were to use all of the rules contained therein, a game would take a month, and a campaign would take a lifetime!

I've been mining the books heavily for my skirmish game, however. Unfortunately, I only have a D10 mutation table.

Any opportunity to trash the new codex, huh HBMC?

I heard that the LatD codex will have a D1000 mutation table.

And that is the difference between good rules and good Fluff.

When you boil it down, you've got what's close to a d36 mutation table, with a lot of Fluff tables that follow on.

From a rules perspective, that table is pointless. From a Fluff perspective, it is pure gold.

Funnily enough, on average, the current C: CSM d6 Possessed table will give more usable results most of the time.
