Great looking stuff, gray. I particularly like:

-- The beaked daemon on soul grinder no. 1 -- a very characterful sculpt;

-- The harvester cannon conversion on grinder no. 2;

-- The idea of a little daemon crawling out of the neck of a larger torso on grinder no. 2.

Keep working on this, and keep posting. It's wonderful watching this army take shape.

I just finished the majority of the work on the plaguebearers, there needs to be some clean up work and I need to finish their weapons, right now they are totally clean. I will probably do some rusting effects then try some slimy looking poison.

Consider this a teaser until I get better individual photos.

Man, Dakka keeps eating my edits if I switch tabs. Ugh.

Anyway, I wrote up a plan of what is coming up next, but I don't know how interesting that would even have been. Needless to say, I have lots of ideas for new conversions. I have six bloodcrushers to finish up and then I am going to start on some new plaguebearers, taking my inspiration from the tagling "rotten paladins of nurgle". I am looking for a good stocky base for these new PB's and orcs come to mind, but I am not sure their heads will lend themselves to easy conversion like the kroot did. If anyone has suggestions feel free to post 'em!

After that I will cook up something for horrors and start on some daemonetts, who might end up being the stock models, since I do like them quite a bit.

(There is also a sketchbook page filled with ideas for a KoS, but I am sort of unhappy with how the Bloodthirster actually turned out after priming him, so I might not go through with it. Alternativley I might chop the BT off at the torso and resculpt his legs, which are, let's face it, very poorly executed; also his wings are begging for magnets but I didn't have the energy to sculpt any more and there was no real way to get magnets in there as it stands.)

I was just buying some washes today and I ended up with a box of dryads.

Damnit.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hey!
I took better photos.

I am stealing this idea for my horrors, which may or may not be the next thing I do. The paladins of Nurgle are on the backburner right now, since I don't really want another unit asap. I'll let the idea simmer.

More demon lovin' for you demon lovin' folk:

individual shots:

this is an experiment for their hell blades, I just did some yellow edge highlights. I think I like it?

I need to touch up the washes. This unit was largely an experiment in using citadel washes to do something fast. I wanted to mimic John Blanche's bloodletters, but it quickly became clear he did not use the citadel washes, but rather citadel (or artists) inks.
In any case, these guys took one afternoon to get this far and now all they need is some individual lovin. In some places I went overboard with the bronze so I need to cover it up.

All things considered, I really like how they came out. The first unit represents the "blood" and this one represents the "brass", very Khorny, if I do say so myself.

I have another batch coming up soon!

Here's how those horrors turned out. The one without a squid head is the changeling, the one next to her is a horror with a bolt of tzeentch.

Nice plague herald/champion!
And I love the Grinder's staff. That's going to be a tricky paint scheme to pull off (the turquoise/lime thing). But if anyone can make it work, you can. Your painting tends to infuse the daemons with a glimmery kind of glow that I really like. Well done, gray.

Wow that's some high praise.

I did some neat stuff the camera didn't pick up, but it's not super fancy.

We'll see how they turn out though. Even I'm not sure if I like them yet.

great work so far, as I especially love the use of the kroot in the army. Truthfully I would have never considered them for that so cheers mate.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Glad you guys liked the KoS. I did it as a spur of the moment sort of thing and am pretty please as well. What do you all think about a loin cloth?

Anyway, here's our friend on his chariot:

And a unit I bought a year ago and just finished assembling:

Blech. My eyeballs hurt.

How appropriate.

These look really good, gray. As I've said before, I really like the bold palette of disease here -- the way you put such bright, vivid colors to such unearthly, daemonic purposes.

These look really good. Personally i have never been a fan of gloss varnish, but it seems appropriate for the slimy, nasty feel.

Yeah-I need to figure out how to cut the glossyness without making the colors flatten out.

I know it looks bad, but here are some more finished (but glossy) heralds:

And here are how the horrors look now:

I need to clean up the blending, but I like them pretty simple as they are now.

Thanks for all the comments!

I've seen some of the brush based flat varnishes, those would probably work for the stuff you dont want to shine. I think its called gesso or something. It's on here somewhere.

@Graypaint: One easy way to do minor flattening without losing any of the vivid color, is to use an extra fine grit sand paper, jewelers sandpaper, and lightly brush the areas you want flattened with that. Just a thought...

I really like this army - the colours are vivid and complement each other well. The glossy-ness also doesn't retract from the gorey aspects. How did you achieve this?
