I think that IF such a thing like an 'evil' sister were to happen, it would probably be an indication that the sisters sanity was broken. I doubt very much that any sister would WILLINGLY turn to chaos, but in a galaxy of untold billions...well, there's always one...

You have to remember that sister units are only faithful, if they have a sister who is at least the rank of Sister Superior. This indicates to me that normal line battles sister could be corrupted, not easily mind you but remember also that these girls have no contact with the outside world. Their codex goes so far to say that only their Cannoness and Sisters Superior are allowed to interact with outsiders, even other sisters! If their superior is corrupted, the sisters under her could easily be lead into chaos.

Also you don't have to willingly turn to chaos. A greater daemon such as a Keeper of Secrets for instance can force you to convert you chaos. The graphic novel Daemonforge goes into detail about a unit of sister being dominated by a KOS. When their Superior is killed the lesser ranked sisters break. Conversely when a follow on unit is sent in with a Canoness leading them they stand against the daemon and corrupted sisters, with wavering.

One of the Ciphas Kane novels has a similar situation, where Sisters have their will overridden. Once freed they all committe ritual suicide.

So, yeah Mariel is far from the only sister to ever fall. Normal rank and file Sisters are the mostly likely candidates. Sisters superiors and Celestian are far less likely. A Canoness falling to chaos would be damn near impossible.

Some one mentioned the short story where a Ultramarine is converted to Chaos and the sister wasn't. The Greater Daemon is that story doesn't even try to corrupt the Sister who was a Seraphim (ie. can inspire faith in others just be her presence). It even states that the Sister is to closed minded to corrupt. With the UM the Daemon just appealed to his pride.

Note the contrast between Marines and Sisters. Sisters are religious zealots in the scariest since of the word. They are "true believers". Marines on the other hand just think that they the Emperor, and by extension their Primach, and themselves are just AWESOME! Its the sin of pride that always causes a Marines downfall. Sisters are not prideful.

Good point, Sersi. By the very nature sisters are humble and tuaght to be so. However, I heard that somewhere in Caiphas Cain a cleric or someone 'gets lucky' with an SoB.

From what I know sisters can have sex with men, but there are some restrictions

back in 2nd edition, where just about everyone could be allies, I had a Sisters of Sin battle group along with IG and CSM. The canoness was my sorceress. They were a lot more fun then.

And yes by GW fluff one SoB has gone slaaneshi and became a daemon princess, although lots of people have made slaaneshi SoB armies.

I could see SoB following chaos undivided in a similar fashion to the Word Bearers in they were to fall (for whatever reason). ALL of them would remaining pure seems highly unlikely with the kind of things that happen in the 40k universe.

In 40k, almost anything can happen

A SOB if she falls will rarely fall to chaos willingly...

They rarely fall to begin with, but I would suspect that more do, they are just shot/caught before anyone else would know.
