I wouldn't be surprised if the idea of doing a 'Basic Game' focused on Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines has been floated a few times... Rules could be simplified in a lot of ways, and multiple forces could be represented with simple add-on sprues instead of new molds. (I.E. the base game comes with 2 sets of SpaM sprues and a Spiky Marine Sprue and a Faithful Marine Sprue.)

Last time I checked, GW was a business. So as a business that wants to stay in business, yes they should "milk" anything they can to make a profit. Hmm, i would like to see the guard get more coverage. i do think they should be the most forefront aspect of humanity that is publicised but thats been and gone so we dont have a choice but to let the dominant human faction be space marines.

But obviously eldar are just win, well... obviously. Yeah. Eldar.

It seems to me that most people accept the situation as inevitable rather than desireable.

But, personally, space marines ftw.

No marines, no 40k. And I like playing 40k.

I went with marines because collecting aliens doesn't appeal to me. At the time it was a choice between marines and guard and I didn't like the look of the guard models at the time, they were mostly catachans.
Guard doesn't offer a lot for the new player unless they like cadians because anything else is hideously expensive.
I think when people get into 40k they go for the Imperial forces because it's easier to associate with our own species than with xenos or even chaos and that's a large part in why marines are so popular. If guard were more interesting and cheaper then there would be much more of them.
How many can afford a mostly metal or resin army? Hopefully the new guard stuff coming out next year or whenever will get a whole lot of new guard players the same way that all the cool new ork sets are making them more interesting to play.
I'm glad that people play necrons and nids though if people think marines are boring armies, what about those two? Almost no chance at having your own unique force. Nids are defined by what colour they're painted and that's it. Nids belong to the hive mind and that's their fluff - wow. Necrons are metal zombies that can shoot, nasty but bland.
They should redo the genestealer cult and also allow options for fielding militia and hive gangs. Chaos marines should also get drop pods.
