Really? I thought he was blowing his own trumpet at how superior he was to the Staff Member.
His tone was boasting, his wording aggressive. And when people pointed out the infantile nature of his response, he claimed Fanboi.

I cried fanboi because if someone doesnt like their experience at a GW store and is upset and people come flocking to the aid of retailers with poor business sense.. i will scream fanboy...although its a bit childish at best but hey i play with toy soldiers.. lol
Anyways i got my vent out.. I sorry to the mmods to makeit another post digressing into my rant but i did say Rant on or off.. something like that.. anyways. i guess i could have made it simpler.
Me: "Hey GW guy."
GW Guy:"yes"
Me:"you have this"
GW Guy: "Sorry no but i can order it"
Me: "hey you have this?"
GW Guy"No, sorry but i can order it"
Me: "How about this?"
GW Guy"nope but you can buy this for alot more instead"
Me: "Nope already have all that"
Walk around store for a bit ... (thinking to myself) I wonder if they have those... no they dont Ok well they gotta have these ....um no hmmm.
Well maybe im too picky , ill just get a simple box of that... wait no i wont...Last try ill buy that cuz i have been wanting it for some time and what better place to find it than here...sorry not today.
Me: "honey can i have my laptop?"
Wife: "Sure, Hun"
(thinking to myself again) Ill check the GW site and just order it here and then spend rest of time talking shop.
Um Site not loading.. Figures.
Ok ill check that site.. hey they have it.. ill bid on it...
What about that site oh yeah they have all these things. Hmm and they are 20% off and only 6 dollars shipping.. oh well beats waiting for it to come in here and then driving another 70 miles to get it.
"hey look at that i bought something while at the GW site"
Why did we leave the house today? Oh kids need new toys lol
Would that have been less offensive? Would it have sparked public outrage in more people drawing them to my plight for justice?
I'll just keep it simple from now on.

You know, I tried pretty hard to explain why we misread your posts. I tried to explain explain why there was the reaction you received, and I apologized.
I don't' think it'd be totally out of line for you to extend a bit of the same courtesy. You called us fanbois because we though you were being overly critical and offensive. After explaining why we were confused, it's a little rude to continue to hold us to our misconception, when, as I thought I explained, was partially our fault but mostly yours for writing a very misleading post.
If nothing else, it's not helping you make the case that you're not actually a jerk.

Considering how things have been going (with the closing of GW Canada), I guess this was inevitable. After reading some of those financial reports and business articles about GW stock, the company really is doing everything it can to survive. Although it is a terrible shame that there's going to be massive layoffs.
As a student trying to find a job to pay for a)school and b)more school, it's already super hard getting ANY job.
It's actually kind of funny because a couple months ago GW Canada put up an ad on their website because they were hiring. I'm not sure if it was just general positions or at the head office, but nonetheless a bad (or potentially good?) start to the year for GW.

Have to agree, having been a customer and a shop assistant I've never understood this logic. All this kind of thinking does is reinforce the arrogance of the customer. They believe that the can act rudely and get away with it. Shop staff should be polite, professional and helpful at all times, but if you are an arse and are trying it on they should be allowed to tell you to go and get stuffed. Shopping isn't a right.
If a member of staff is rude or offensive to you, fair comment, if not then keep your gob shut, as how the shop is run & stocked isn't their fault.

I dont think anyone is arguing over the frustration of traveling that far to a store and them not having what you want. And its entirely possible you honestly weren't trying to make a scene. But dropping your laptop onto the counter and going to the competitions websites, then calling up another competator and ordering product while in still their store? Really? Take the high road and show a little tact, take the laptop out to your car and do it there.

keeping it simple.
Layoffs bad.
Makes morale low for employees.
Low morale employees less prone to enjoy doing their job right e.g. Ordering stock properly, treating the customer as if they ARE the life blood of their company

No, you were a prick and threw the toys out the pram because you couldn't get your own way.
The Staff Member offered to order the stuff in for you, and even offered an alternative purchase.
And from what you've said, this appears to have been a one off.
You mention low staff morale? And you really think throwing a little strop in the shop helps that at all?

FYI: GW has replaced all store inventory controls with their magical computer. The store employees cannot control what they get, how much they want to stock, or when they get shipments. The GW computer decides all these things based on a magic 8-ball they converted.
It's why it took a couple of weeks for my local store to get some new books in stock (the computer said if only one person pre-ordered, then clearly not many people wanted it, so they only sent one for the shelf), and why the stores are often low on an army that has a lot of fans, because while the staff may know what their local players are into, the computer says, sorry, you can only have three on a shelf at a time.
This is the way that a lot of businesses do things now. 'Just-in-time' inventory controls are meant to control costs, but in reality, they make it so that anything unexpected causes you to run out. The worst example of this that I've seen was going to a major grocery store and finding that they had no potatoes. The computer didn't think that many people would want them that day, so they just ran out.

Let me assure you, by staging a grand drama in a store, you were being rude. You were a disrespectful to that employee who was just doing his job. You don't know the circumstances and processes behind that person's store and their stock issues, and you just made their day a lot less rewarding. Just because someone bought all their assault squads before you did. You could have gotten everything you wanted without being a showoff.

So erm... reading through this I see the whole situation that occured with windswept313's visit to a store causing a flamewar again- I can see the points of people who are annoyed at what you did, heck I share that view-
at the same time- I can see where you are trying to come from with it- however I know that alot of what your saying is from your view of the situation, but you are showing that you don't actually understand the systems that are in place- and a general lack of looking at it from the staffers point of view-
what the heck was the poor guy supposed to do if someone had already come in and bought the things you wanted?
what was he supposed to do if you wanted things that are direct only and you dismissed that?
You can say that you weren't being rude, or having an issue with GW as a whole- but so many of your posts on the subject have come across as aggressive and negative to the point of just bashing GW for the sake of doing so- heck even bashing the website for being down- and then calling the people who complain about that fanboys....
The staffer doesn't decide the stock
The staffer tried to sort things out for you- he didn't do it to your standards, but by the sounds of things he gave it a reasonable try- it could have been better- but it could have been a whole lot worse
You treated the staff member in a manner that appears jerkish- then try to say you were trying to help- well I'm sorry but that just doesn't fit with the posts that you've made, so don't try and just change your story.
Back on topic:
I think the "mass layoffs" is just moving GW canada into GW north America
GW stores all have various hours and staffing levels depending on a number of things- So I work in a store that is open 10-9 Mon-Thus, 10-6 Fri/Sat and 10:30-5 on a sunday.... With a manager, 4 Full timers and a part timer....
A store down the road has a manager....and thats it- depends on the needs of the store really
They have started trying the "one man stores" and so far they seem to be really working- I've had a chance to go work in a few of them...and at times it can be quiet and lonely... at others it can be great fun

Its abit more indepth than that.... if it goes out of stock the computer will bump up the max/min stock levels... if it does this 3 times it gets flagged for a human to look at it... and if the store manager doesn't like the stock levels, he can check 'em and call up the stock management people to fiddle with it

Just to chime in OT (in case this thread hasn't degenerated ENTIRELY into arguing with or flaming Windswept313), my Local GW just reduced from I think 4 employees from about a year ago, down to 3, and just recently they've become a 2-man store. They don't appear to be reducing hours.
The other GW nearby moved from a proper mall to a 'strip-mall' location last fall. Dunno 'bout their staff lately.
And the local bunker just bought the store next door, adding an insanely massive amount of table-space (as in, roughly double. Like they didn't already have enough tables...), so they at least appear to be doing well. But they've been working on that expansion since before the LAST recession, so it's not really an accurate sign of retail vitality.
Oh, and yeah, windswept313, you sir, are a dick. You could have just as easily said "That's cool, I'll just get it from Warstore then, thanks anyways" and left, but you made a scene. You try that crap in a FLGS (at least the ones around here) and see if you don't get the taste slapped out of your mouth (or an outright ban).

You do not seem to believe that what you did was rude.
Imagine you did this in a Borders, replacing Warstore with Amazon.
Or a Best Buy, and Ebay.
You seem to think it was okay because it was a GW store. And they pissed you off by not having what you wanted.
OT, I hope they don't close any stores. the one near me just opened before Christmas.
I like being able to play whenever I want, against players closer to my age(mid-30s), surprisingly, and not little kids.

Well, with other stores such a scene would have been the exception, with GW it is the rule.

You, sir, are a dick.
Exactly.
Here I'll expressly ditto the executive summary
You, sir, are a dick.
Incisive commentary there, Frazzled.
