I Quote from page 31
Drones "...If the character with the drone controller is killed then all his drones are removed at the end of the Shooting or Assault phase in which he died."

Till they are removed they have 1 wound so you may allocate to them. Other wise the rule would say "drones are instantly removed once the character with the drone controller is killed."

Gwar is making rules up.

I clearly chose which drone dies when I fail a drone save. I will always chose the drone that's controlled by the crisis suit that just died as well.

I do not have to lose two shield drones.

The problem is, you do NOT choose what drone dies, you choose which group takes a wound. If you remove one drone because its controller dies, you cannot claim that a Shield Drone from the Group has been removed because it suffered a wound.

Drones "...If the character with the drone controller is killed then all his drones are removed at the end of the Shooting or Assault phase in which he died."

End of shooting phase would be at the end of step 6 of the last unit to shoot or run during the shooting phase.

Step 5 you allocate wounds and take saving throws.

Step 6 you remove casualties. Which model is removed from an identical group that has an unsaved wound is the owning players choice.

End of shooting phase you remove drones who's controllers were chosen as casualties if applicable.

That's what the RAW seems to point to. While everything technically may happen simultaneous, you have to follow the instructions in the order given.

Remember that you remove casualties immediately, unit by unit. The drone rule doesn't kick in until the end of the entire shooting phase though. Two very distinctly different time lines for when they happen.

Yep, you could even remove a battlesuit when Tactical Marines A fire at the unit only to take wounds on his drones when Tactical Marines B fire on the unit later in the same shooting phase.

This is blatantly obvious, just because there's a rule that says something will die at the end of the phase doesn't mean it can't take wounds during said phase.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

No, the problem is, you don't know the rules.

a tac squad has 1 sarge, 2 plasma gun marines and 7 normal marines.

for wound allocation they will be split into the 3 groups as they differ from one another (via weapons in this case)

they suffer 7 wounds, meaning each of the groups (plasma, sarge and normals) will suffer 2 wounsd each, and then the 7th one can be allocated at players choice.

the case of this thread is pretty much the same.

battle suit with gear A (unit part 1)
battle suit with gear B (unit part 2)
2 drones of the same type (unit part 3)

its pretty straight forward here.

now, if the suits were given the same gear it would be:

both suits (unit part 1)
both drones of the same type (unit part 2)

its all pretty simple and well worded in the book.

Hate to disagree with someone, but the SM example is flawed - the SM player could allocate all 7 wounds to the 7 normal marines. The wounds caused are then only put into groups when actually taking the saving throws. Models are assigned wounds individually, and then saves are taken in batches of identical models. See the section on Complex units on pg 25.

As for the confusion on "identical in gaming terms" the phrase is defined in the last sentence of the first paragraph in the same section, i.e. that models are considered identical if they have the same profile, wargear, weapons and special rules. Thus, assuming that the drones are identical in these respects, they take their saves in one batch.
