As for the 3 full squads = 6 Squads yeah it is actually incredibly useful as you can send drones around to harrass and contest objectives and you use your other squads to claim them.
Again, no, it's not. If you want 6 units, you can get 6 units. In your example you spend 1090 points to get (effectively) 6 units.
You could also buy 6 min sized Fire Warrior squads for 360 points. And they can take objectives.
I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying that it's not like you're gonna fill a force org chart at 1500 points.
Getting 2 units for 375 points isn't a lot of units per point. Get it?
For a move of 21 to 26 inches across the board.
Sure, but why do you want to dismount them so bad? They'll get torn up in combat... They can still shoot just fine from the Piranha... And if they're in the Piranha, they're immune to S3-4 shooting (usually). All taking them out does is give the 5 Combat Squadded Bolter Marines something to kill.
Also, this reminds me... If you lose any of your Piranhas in your backfield, all the Drones from that squadron are walking for the rest of the game. They're still pretty fast units, sure, but not as fast as the Piranhas... So, all it takes is one dead Piranha, and they're forced to leave a percentage of their firepower behind. Yet another strike against them.
It's not actually that bad, depending on how you interprete the rules, you will only need 2 or 3 pods per squadron.
I agree with the
RAW here, I think you'd only need majority, but I also think people might be a bit annoyed at that interpretation. Might be worth the 10 points to not deal with it.
Hmm, why are you using so many Rhinoes if you think AV11 is so vulnerable?
Many reasons...
1) AV11 Open-Topped ain't the same as normal AV11...
2) Sisters have murderous close range firepower that laughs at what a Piranha can bring. AV11 may be fragile, but when it's the best way to get that firepower in, you use it.
3) The Rhinos aren't the core of the list, they just transport the core of the list. By turn 3 or so, you no longer care if they live.
4) They're not all Rhinos, they're "Rhino chassis." Two of them are Exorcists (AV13).
That said, it's not lost on me what a major problem a Piranha Spam list would pose to my Sisters. I'm not trying to say the Piranha Spam list is a universal loser... I'm saying it's a generally mediocre list that will really polarize the results of games, which people are confusing with being a good list.
Really, I admit I don't know lot about Marine lists, but I don't think that list is all that competive overall.
Again, the point was to just put a lot of shooting in a Marine list in a way that's fairly commonplace. Razorbacks are very popular these days, as they're cheap, shooty, and can taxi people around. I wasn't tuning it to kill the Piranha list. If it looks like it was, that's a commentary on how easy it is to accidentally kill the Piranha list, and not any intent on my part.
Are you guys sure that 15 Piranha with "passenger" drones get to "disembark" them into 3 squads of 10?
Yes. And, in fact, they must. If a Piranha is destroyed, forcing its Drones to disembark, they ALL must disembark. Then they also can't re-embark.
As far as kill points, if I recal correctly, you get the
KPs for the Piranha. The Drones neither prevent you from getting them, nor provide any if they die.
