MMmmm, Bacon Cheeseburgers! I hope that F'ing guy doesn't start bringing Bacon Cheeseburgers to a game. The distraction may be enough for him to run rickshaw over my army with his "flexible" rule interpretations and "loose" sportsmanship. Also, I made this sigbox for KingCracker. Let me know and I'll alter it to your specs.

I have an odd feeling that the OP is talking about me. I play Orks, and I posted in a thread in the general discussion section that my win ratio was currently 54 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw with my orks. I don't keep it in my signature line, but I brought it up because the thread was about my pink orks HERE, and whether pink orks can win or not.
I've been playing 40k for almost a year now, so I don't have the years and years of tenure that other people do. However, I have a degree from West Point, and was a career army officer in combat arms...serving first as an enlisted infantryman. I'd like to think that my grasp of tactics, maneuvering, and other principles of warfare are exceptional.
THOSE things matter much more than the army list I bring or the opponents I play. Honestly, I firmly believe that I could assemble an army from pretty much any army list and beat anyone. I realize how cocky that sounds, you needn't tell me. I've participated in pretty much every tournament I could get to across a number of stores in a couple of states, and I consistently win. I had a ridiculous number of wins with my Tau as well, and my wins did a large part in funding my wife's ork army that I also use. Win a tournament, get store credit...get another box or two of stuff. I still have boxes upon boxes of stuff (Lootas, burnas, boyz, more boyz, nob boxes, Tau stuff still in the box) to assemble, and all of it has come from store credit winning tournaments.
To me, its *fun* paying for a hobby through winning tournaments. Playing is fun, winning is more fun. I do believe there is something to the idea of "fish in a small pond." I haven't gotten to see players across the nation before, so I don't know if my region is just full of particularly bad (or uncompetitive) players or not. Second, I also believe there's something to be said about the advice that people give. I give some lengthy and (I'd like to think) exceptional advice about Ork and Tau army lists in the army list section. A few days ago, I hi-jacked the entire first page of the forums there with Ork army lists that people had posted; I critiqued them all, gave some in-depth advice...I haven't posted anything in a few days though because I feel like regardless of how many threads I post in, or how much I try beating an idea into someone's head, someone else comes along and posts a list with the same problems, never bothering to read what has been said elsewhere. Its an uwinnable battle.
So I'd say this: I don't really care if people believe my personal win-streak or not. This is the forums, we're strangers here. I'm a tactical monster due to my background, and I've been perfecting my particular brand of army list for a long time; I literally can't think of anything anywhere that can take me down.
There's a *REASON* I'm looking forward to 'Ard Boyz this year. I'm constantly going to new stores and playing new people looking for a real challenge. Last year, 'Ard Boyz was my first tournament ever in 40k; I used Tau, and I didn't know my codex yet, my army list was messed up, I required a lot of help, and the games went slowly because I had no clue what I was doing (even forgetting about phases) - I had literally *just* learned how to play.
A lot has changed in the last year. I'm looking forward to the tournament this year and the hope that I can find a real challenge. I guess I feel invincible, and I wouldn't mind getting spanked hard just to show me that my list and my tactics aren't everything I thought they were going to be.

If you're the best, why this burning need to talk about it? Do you think talking about it and airing all of this out really shows you in a good light? Do you really think anyone is singling you out in this whole WWW on Dakka Dakka? C'mon man, if you are that good, you wouldn't give a rat's ass what anyone thought. That or you're a competent Zapp Brannigan. I have trouble believing what you say because of this perceived insecurity and paranoia. I'm sorry to appear so obnoxious but you seem to prove the point of SO many previous posters regarding people that post their win/loss records and the reasons for doing so. Ditto (no offense mate)
I have also studied tactics and I prefer guerrilla warfare over standard military practice, although you may have learned this also; I did not attend West point . I mean no offense but I found it pretty funny that you brought that up, and made such a point of it. I can program a computer to beat you every game in chess if I really want to (do you have any idea what the military can do? yeesh), so your training means diddily to the future of warfare, sorry to say. If need be my program can simply bomb you to smithereens and yet again, react to that!!!
Ok then... Overall I would say experience with the actual game is more important than anything else you could bring besides basic geometry and some basic maths. A WH40k simply does not work in the same way as a real one; no army has ever relied on a dice roll... scratch that some have, but all WH40k armies most definitely do. A real army would say drop bomb here, rinse, repeat, and send in the tanks with some troops back-up; if you can convince me that WH40k can actually be played with such brutal effectiveness, I must be incredibly high.
I am sure that most of the people on here have no problem with your record, and I would say that not keeping it in your signature is a good sign.
The way weaponry is properly used in WH40k is about as "realistic" as the game gets IMHO. And to TBH spam is better than 100 dollar caviar units.

GoFenris, you completely missed the point of my post. Completely, utterly, entirely.
I'm responding to the OP with my belief that a 56-1-1 streak is perfectly plausible. I noted that I had such an achievement. Then I went on to explain why I thought my situation for achieving it might be unique. Then I agreed with other posters who thought such an achievement might be the result of extraneous factors. Finally, I noted that I looked forward to weighing my perceptions against different opponents on a national level to discover whether my perceived self-worth was on target or not.
You felt the need to pick a single sentence out of that ENTIRE post, and attack my alumni, make a personal observation of me in an unfavorable light, and make a personal attack on my credibility. Excuse me if I can't help but wonder if there's some hidden bitterness in there unrelated to me that you feel the need to bring out on me.
Like I said...I don't really care if you or anyone on here believes anything that I write because I don't have a personal stake here. I *do* care about finding out if I'm as good as I think I am, and I made a case as to why I think I succeed. Leave your prejudice out of dakkadakka unless you're going to hate on space marines for being so ugly.
*EDIT* And after just re-reading what I wrote, you didn't even take a single sentence, you took a clause from a sentence meant to establish grounds for a military professional. You're absurd.

I am sure it is possible that you have that record, and that is just great.
I also don't think he was laying a personal attack on you, although his words could have been kinder I suppose. Put your balls on the chopping block, and you seem to get surprised when someone drops the hatchet. Although I understand that you enjoy winning, I can't help but think you would not hesitate to do it all costs from your own words. This assumption is from a person that has never played you of course. You could be one of the funnest people on the planet to play with, but I and most of the Dakka community will never be able to be a part of this unless by-chance you are in the local area. Neither of us said we would not play you, though Gofenris may disagree, I would have a game with you no problem. I am quite sure that most of the Dakka community would wish you well and assist you in your endeavor.
I know around 20 or so gamers that have played for at least 10 years and not a single one has a record as spotless as yours, so forgive me if I have jumped to conclusions. Most WH40k gamers have around a 1:1 win/loss ratio, and those that don't seem to win a lot of games by fielding suspiciously unfriendly armies; a lot of experienced gamers will drop a list like this to it's knees just to make a point. Sure you can blast a pond sky high to cross it, but building a bridge one stone at a time, with some personality and perseverance, can be a very powerful tool in your "arsenal".

Frankly I couldn't care less if you put your w/l/d stats up, there so variable it could be that your beating 7 year olds who don't know how to play at 500 points or you could be playing 100,000 point games against grand tournament players once in a month.
The real question is why you want to put this stat in your sig? Is it to prove how great you are to people you'll never meet? Is it for you to keep a personal tally of your games?

You're absurd. Wait, you're not (or were not) a military professional? Now I'm confused. I guess I did misunderstand. I thought you were, or currently are a military professional. All smart-assery aside. If you somehow believe I was attacking you for being in or having been in the military then you were mistaken. I am, however, attacking your assertion that being a West Point graduate is such a strong reason why you're so good in WH40K and that you're as good as you believe (which admittedly, I should have referenced directly back to the "big fish in a small pond" idea/theory/what-have-you instead of indirectly. Did I come off more abrasively than intended. Yes. For that I apologize. Only my abrasiveness, my comments stand. Some very brief WH40K background of my own. Before March, hadn't played in eleven years. In March played my brother 3-4 times a week, every week, to begin learning the new rules (he was new as well). Usually just simple slug-fests and exercises in Math-Hammer. I've only more recently (last 3-4 weeks) have been playing real games against seasoned players. With this said... In truth, you gave me advice on some tactics with Orks and my Ork list a few weeks back. They were very helpful in helping me see some insight into my Codex that I lacked in experience with these rules. After playing and modifying and learning I used what you (and others) said and I have been (and still am) modifying my own lists, playing styles, etc. and for this I thank you. I would play you because regardless of the outcome, I can learn something from any opponent. No personal axes to grind. As for my response to anything else, please refer to my first answer to your quote pertaining to insecurity. If I didn't care, I wouldn't have commented at all. No joke here. The best in any competitive endeavor, seek out the best to compete against. Go seek out the best and hopefully, someday, I will meet you there.

It was retconed after I showed up and Started being right and/or Drunk all the time.
I see, well I cant come near to competing with your average, I'm only right about 75% of the time( the rest of the time I bluff),and only drunk about 50% of the time (kids you know, bad parenting to fall on your offspring),but I can always aspire.
Once again,so not to go off topic,it's the internet "belive at your own risk",I think that's it,unless I'm wrong..or drunk

I first want to say I am so glad my post has drawn so much interest and also lots of funny comments, keep it coming.
As to who my post was directed to was the general dakka community. What spurred it on though was Dashofpepper I freely admit.
I could of posted in his thread, but I did not want to make a direct attack I was simply using him as an example. Still watching his comments here, I realized something I was thinking of posting on his thread that I did not.
The point I was going to make was simple and very personal. Hence why I did not do in the first place. Now though I think he might of brought it on himself.
It seems to me on forums someone will post a topic about something when in truth it is about something completely different.
In this case Dashofpepper he made a post about how silly his army was painted, when in truth I think it was really more about him posting his current "record".
It was for that reason I made this post, because I thought it was lame to say look her I am not trying to tell you how bad ass I am, but no really that is what I am trying to tell you.
Cheers!

I think there's a combination of things. Some people outright fabricate. Other people only play against opponents that they're confident they can beat.
Oddjob (on here, not the guy from the bond film) was spot on when he said that if your win rate is better than 60% then you need tougher opponents.

I have played chaos for about 2 years and orks for a month or two and my record is about w2 d1 l15*
*please note that the loss is a guess but I know it is a lot bigger than my win and that I have lost 5 games with my orks

Tasty, pink orks, and pretty much anything with pink polka-dots *ARE* bad ass.
I've kicked more tail with my Tau than I have with Orks, and in a bigger pond, but haven't mentioned a word of a record anywhere....because it was about pink orks.

I don't think the Dawn of War video game from THQ counts. Especially Skirmish mode against the Computer. I think its time for me to leave young D.o.P. alone. After looking through his history of threads regarding Ork Rule/Codex questions from Jan-Mar or so (some even more recent), I am now really questioning his overall truthfulness regarding his record and/or level of competition with Tau and Orks. Much of it may point to a, "That F'ing guy!" scenario and too much just doesn't make sense to me. For me, I am on the verge of real and true personal attacks (I won't say why on a public forum). He seems content to ride this train off a cliff but its time for me to let it go and allow someone else to point that out.

Fenris, don't start pretending that you're interested in civil and non-personal conversation now, you're already on such a great roll! As a side note, 1996 is a reference to when I developed an internet presence fully, not when I was born. You really need to stop being so petty.
Sokay though; two more weeks before I get to attempt to administer my first round of thumpings at something larger than a local tournament.

If your win rate is that high then you really need to find yourself a couple of opponents that regularly make the top tables at GTs. Playing against opponents that you can beat fairly easily won't help you to improve, quite the opposite.
