I took 1st place here in a regional match last month, but did horribly in Ard Boyz, I just cant do 2500 points in 2.5 hour, especially with tons of Droppods and flanking, Ill haev to really consider if I want to play next year.
Good job guys.

And I popped your Land Raider, sucker. Not that anything in that last round mattered. Your army was real purty though.

On-topic:
This was my first tourny ever. I had a Deathwing list and pulled dead average: 14 of 28. I had heard some horror stories about 'Ard boyz, but everybody was a good sport at my FLGS's preliminary.
The top three positions were swept by Chaos Space Marines.
Off-topic:
Regarding cardboard anything, I'd raise a stink. To high heaven. The rules are extremely clear from GW: must start as a Citadel Model, must contain a majority of Citadel parts. Period.
Scratch-built anything is out, in the context that "scratch-built" is not the same as "heavily converted X-model". If X is a Citadel model, that's fine. If X is not, too bad. Learn to read the rules.
I mean, considering GW is providing the prize support and the tourney has no entry fee, you should get your butt in gear or gtfo.

Scratch-built from GW parts is covered by the rulebook. Dunno if that's what you meant, but if you read the hobby section they have a picture of a "scratch-built deffkopta" that doesn't even have blades, but is still a deffkopta.

As a long time Ork player, I can say your models are truly Orky and definately Proppa! They look dead killy I think I may totally go loota on them as modelling projects of my own! Nice!

I would totally take out the little tiny one and replace it with the real model, I think that is where you will run into the most opposition. Tough list though. Good game.
The small, weedy one is actually tournament legal. It's made out of two rhinos. Even the deffrolla is made out of a GW tank trap sprue.

3rd round....
Drop pod Marines (with plasticard drop pod marines..no citadel parts)finished turn 4 and time ran out, I had a major victory. the guy starts saying if you want to win like that go ahead, poeple are still playing we can finish.
I hate whinners and this was my first offical tourny so I said hurry up and lets go. we powers through last two turns and would have tied but.... Warp gate to last objective (with drop pod out of range) no scatter roll, hey look he wins a massacre. looked up warp gate rule after he left when someone told me he could not do that. he took second and isnt even going to next round.
I love this hobby but this douche RUINED MY GOOD TIME!
I don't care about loosing but at least play honestly ya gak head. Would have finished second but dems da breaks. next comp I wont treat so relaxed against someone who was being a rulez nazi through the whole match anyway(I was just way to nice about the whole situation).
Rant over.
Were you playing at The Realm? If so, the guy you played can be a rules lawyer sometimes but he knows what he is doing. If there was an issue with rules or models you should have brought it up to the judge. No point in complaining about it now.
I think the round ended early as the guy I played (Eric I believe) had a stopwatch and it was barely past 2 hours (unless he started timeing after the judge started the round). The game ended on turn 5 for us and I had one objective and 1 single wraithguard model contesting the other objective and more killpoints for the massacre. Had another turn passed, I'd probably(most definately) would have lost my wraithguard model and managed to get a minor victory. So that sucks for him but he was gracious and nice about it.
There are many crazy things that can happen in a tournament so in the end just *shrug* and don't let it eat you up =).

Hey Adam,
Good game, I enjoyed it. And I qualified anyways, so no big deal on the massacre. See you at GE Pasadena in a month.

Mort,
I didn't know the warp gate rulez about scatter till someone informed me after the match (not doing something you have to do just because your opponant dosen't know is still cheating). I'm over it and it was never about loosing, I was looking forward to this event for a month and had a great time against the first two players and should have done worse in the first match. The last guy was a dick and sucked all the fun out of the match and it kind of ruined the whole day for me (I would have rather lost to the guy you played who genuinly a nice person). I am fairly new to this game I have never played someone that made the game I was playing not fun (guess I should have expected this at ard boyz but it was mostly the local gaming club and I didnt expect to go on to the next round anyways). I'm just happy a really nice guy gets to go in said persons place. I felt better after lots of people told me that guy is a jerk to play on the regular. lesson learned dont play that guy.
P.S.
The atmosphere was very relaxed, hardly anyone was playing WYSIWYG (not even you and when you go to the next round you might want to fix that because they might not be as nice) and hardly anyone was playing for blood, thats why the last match up threw me off. I'm a sensitive person and the situation was very offputting.

FYI the above is not totally accurate - Predator Games just South of Houston ran Ard Boyz - good turn out too. SilentBob what store did you play at?
Results follow:
1st Place - Infantry Guard (Me)
2nd Place - Horde Orks
3rd Place - Chaos
Great tournament - came down to the last round. Looking forward to round 2.
