On Scenario Two, I have one issue: If the game ends before turn 6, there's no chance at the bonus points. Not fun if you are playing Mr. or Ms. Slow. Is it possible that if any are not revealed by games end, they are diced for to reveal them?

What I don't like is dedicated transports are 1 KP in mission #2.
It is hard as heck to kill dedicated land raiders, and when you finally kill them they give up 1 whole KP.

I see that, but its not uncommon for a scenario to only go 4 rounds at one of these - 3 even. This is because you may have two very complex armies fighting, or even an unintentionally slower player. I thought it may be helpful to specify that when "Time" is called, all undetermined markers are determined. Not that I need it. I'm running 6 Greater Daemons of Khorne and one lame poodle for my army. The poodle is the HQ...

Love fighting Tau in the dark, completely elimates threats at 36"+ and you don't see alot of marker lights in competitive list and honestly if my opponent is bringing crisis suits well.......lets just say that you don't see them in higher level tournaments for a reason.

Yup. Gonna be brutal for some armies. Wonder why the missions are so in favor of CC armies this time around. Seems almost on purpose. I have 3 armies to choose from but man I really wanted to play the guard.

Not to be mean, but this shows that you don't know what the Tau are capable of in night fighting. With the appropriate equipment, which I will be bringing to the semis, you can average 42" spotting distance in night fighting.
Not going to even get into your markerlights and Crisis Suit comments...

You don't see crisis suits in tournaments? You don't see markerlights in competitive lists?
I don't even play in tournaments and I know these things are competitive. In fact crisis suits are pretty much a necessity.

As a very seasoned Tau player and as much as I love the army, I was slighty depressed when I saw the round two scenarios posted. I felt very bad that I wasnt going to be playing the same army that I qualified with in round one. The first mission with Fire Warriors being worth three kill points a piece, well lets just say Mech and Gunline Tau are Pretty much screwed. Round two, yes one eight man Pathfinders squad with lights is required, it still isnt enough to mark the enemy units to make them "go away", there will still be to many other targets that you need to elimanate (CSM/SM RHINOS, lash princes, Nob bikers with Power Klaws, etc.) and if you play any more lights than that you will be lacking in guns. Crisis suits in high amounts=very happy obliterators/havocs/Defilers and once again Nob bikers with Power Klaws. Yes they will also be rolling for night fighting but for XV's to be effective they have to be somewhat close to the enemy which=happy lash princes and last but not least Nob bikers with Power Klaws. After lossing rounds one and two, round three really doesnt matter anymore. I know it would be really cool for the 'Ard boys to be claimed in the name of the GREATER GOOD!!! and trust me I'd be the first to congratulate you if you did win with them but the odds are extremly against the Tau. Keep in mind I'm not being a douche nozel when I say all this its just that I want to see the best of the best at round to of 'Ard boyz. But if you're going to play them anyway then I say goodluck to you sir and you're a braver man than I and were able to resist the allure of chaos.

I have only ever played as Tau in this game, and here is how you win in the semi's with Tau:
Scenario 1-
Troop Problem: 3 squads of 12 Firewarriors (1 takes a devilfish, the other two use PF Fish), 1 squad of 20 Kroot/10 Kroot Hounds. Devilfish are not that easy to kill. Especially with DP and FD. When you do crack the Fish, you have to kill 12 FW (not hard, but it does take some work). And if they are spending all this time killing your FW/Fish, then your XV88s, XV8s and Hammerheads are probably anihilating the rest of their army.
Lessen Killpoints: Bring suit teams in the HQ slot rather than the elite slot. A little more expensive, but also more accurate.
Scenario 2-
Nightfighting: Remember those fish we are bringing? They are all going to have SMS, which ignore nightfighting. XV88s and Hammerheads will have BS filters, which let them see twice (read 42" average) the distance in nightfighting. Anything else nearby will be shot with one of the two PF squads and then those markerlight hits will be used to ignore night fighting. The greatest part about this is that XV88s can kill any armor at range while the enemy can't shoot back. Probably won't be able to shoot at your entire army. What this means is that the Tau get a shooting advantage against shooting armies, and loose very little as far as shooting goes, against Melee armies. Its a win-win. You just HAVE to build your list for it.
Objectives: Mobility is what wins it for Tau here. Keep Fish between a couple objectives and make your move when you can. Kroot outflanking can take any objectives near table edges.
Scenario 3-
Not gonna say anything about this one. Its gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel (lol, fish shooting fish). With everyone trying to hold the middle of the table, you can just alpha strike their initial forces, then shoot the crap out of anything crossing the middle of the table. Make the obligatory late game objective grab.
If anything, Tau are the one shooty army that shouldn't be phased by two of the three rounds. The first round is rough because we don't have plague marines/tough troops, but we are great at killing stuff, so I'm not too worried about it.

OK... I do agree that out of all the shooting armies it is they that have the best chance. But it's like picking between a rock and a hammer to smash your own nuts with. The scenarios were made for close combat and rhino/razerback rushing. (move 12 pop smoke your turn, you waste shots at the rhinos and if you do decide to actually mark them it's kind of a waste, you cant kill all of the rhinos so next turn they move twelve more and guys hop out, fire bolt guns at your kroot and meltas at the fish so no D-pods for you, and at this point they have ether lashed out your Broadsides, pathfinders, or Shas'o teams so there's something else they get to shoot at.) I know at 2500 vindicators and defilers suck anus but if somebody gets a lucky shot with a vindicator over the broadsides or defiler over the Shas'o then all you can really do is lay there and cry about the instant death rule. All I'm saying is if you get a good player playing Lash Prince Chaos or a Vulcan Melta spam list with razorbacks/rhinos the Tau will get picked apart, And if Tau losses some of its major units it just becomes turns of "hey I shoot you with pistols then assualt you and you suck nuts in Close Combat so I win then sweeping advance you, repet the proccess next turn." These scenarios humped Tau/Gaurd/Extremly Shooty Space Marines.

Dead on Chosen. Even in the best case scenarion ObiFett paints, I see Tau having an incredibly hard time in scenarion 2 against any army with a dedicated assualt element, and certain "combined arms" lists that both shoot and assault well (mech eldar/dark eldar, vulkan, etc.) are going to have their way with you. The scenarios are decidely unfair, I'm just happy to be on the side thats benefitting from it.

Don't get me wrong ObiFett I wanna see more than just the armies I posted above and I hope you do well(if you qualified and decide to play Tau), but still it's gonna be hard on shooty armies. I'm also glad i had access to an army other than the Tau. Sigh... my life for chaos. (sad face)

I honestly see scenario 2 going completely opposite that you both see it going for Tau (keep in mind the units and equipment that I mentioned in my previous post):
v. Shooting armies : Tau can keep their range and just pick em apart while having nearly zero threat from their opponents shooting. Auto-win in my opinion.
v. Assault armies : 6 XV88s can take out 4 transports pretty reliably. Misslepod XV8s have a better chance to see the transports because they can re-roll spotting distance. Once they get close, speedbump with the kroot and clean up the rest with volume of fire and markerlights. I've done it plenty of times before and nightfighting doesn't reduce the range of suits that much and barely reduces the range of BS equipped XV88s and Hammerheads and doesn't negate at all the range of SMS.
v Mixed Armies : This is basically like fighting an all assault army but at half strength because the shooty elements will be a non factor till they can get within spotting distance. Easy as pie.
All of what I say doesn't matter to you two anyways, so lets just leave it at this: I'll post a batrep of my Tau from scenario two of my semi's.

So for the second scenario we are going to use the regular rules kill point system, eh? Too bad I was hoping for the dedicated transports to not count in that one and maybe use the other Ard Boyz KP system. Oh well. Should be an interesting round. I'm not going to change my army from the first round simply to see how well I can do with one army over the course of the tourny.
Haha, the first mission is gonna be a fun one though with my army offering 21 KP(Troops and transports) + 2 KP( HQ) + 6 KP( HS) + 5 KP (Fast Attack and transport) + 7 KP (Elites and transport) for a total of 41KP.

On the flip side, can you really imagine dedicated transports being worth more? A Dark Eldar or Ork army is already giving up 6-10 points for dedicated transports if they're running a mechanized list. You'd have those 35-55 point transports be worth more than 1 point apiece?

Obifett. I owe you an apology. I had to fight a Tau player in the 2nd round and I'll be damed if it didn't go almost exactly like you said it would. Freaking blacksun filters... Despite this and some truly abismal rolling on for the majority of the game I managed to keep him pinned into a corner and managed a Major victory (I also managed first overall!).
You really know your Tau and I just wanted you to know that I was wrong and you where dead on.

Gratz on first place!
Thanks for coming on and posting your experience. I finished second (minor loss against bike marines in the third scenario) but did get a massacre on the second scenario. I faced IG and was able to stay relatively safe while blowing away his armor piece by piece. Blacksun Filters are awesome. Too bad in normal tournaments they only matter in 1/18th of your total turns.
