Is that why the Dark Eldar have been neglected for so long? I mean, it wouldn't really be that hard to use various bits to convert Eldar models in Dark Eldar variants. All we need is a new codex with some functional units (aside from Dark Lance spam).

Anyhow...

...as a regular listener to Dice Like Thunder (a 40K podcast for those not in the know), I heard the summation of their interview with Jervis Johnson. Apparently within five years, GW hopes to have most (if not all) of the current codexes (even 4th edition ones) brought into the 5th edition rules. I'm not saying this because I necessarily believe it, but for all of you who loath the current Chaos codex...cough...H.B.M.C...cough...it may interest you to know that within five years all your protests MAY be alleviated. Even more interesting was Jervis' claim that GW operates two years into the future. That means they very well could be writing a new Chaos codex AND...gasp...hearing all of your complaints (though again, I wouldn't bet my money on it).

There you have it...Jervis' two cents...and my inability to swallow that spoonful of honey (laced with years of poison).

Even the 4th Ed ones? What about the 3rd Ed ones like DE and Daemonhunters? Or Necrons?

Obviously I specifically cited the 4th edition ones because of their proximity to 5th edition, some people may not believe that it's necessary to make new editions of their codices.

Jerk.

But yeah, supposedly all of their current armies are supposed to be "supported" within five years...including Dark Eldar and the forces of the Inquisition (which really need new plastics AND a new codex - moreso than Chaos IMO).

Now now, there's no need for that.

We refuse to take sides in this anymore. And we refuse to let you turn us against one another. We know who we are now, we can find our own way between order and chaos...

It's over because we've decided it's over. Now get the hell out of our galaxy! Both of you.

See what talking too much about Chaos does to me! I need to stop coming into the threads about old Chaos codices or the current Chaos codex (I've stated before that I do like the current book).

How doesn't it? It has T-sons, noise marines, plague bearers, and Khorne Berserkers. you can easily dedicate your HQs to a specific god, and you can tailor your list to the specific legion. For instance, you could take CC oriented defilers for use with you Khorne berserkers and Kharn the Betrayer. your crapload of Noise Marines can be backed up by quick Slaaneshi chosen and a Lash-prince. the customizability, within those four dedicated legions, of the Chaos codex is vast. But, nobody likes to use those lists because they are not the top tier lists.

Clearly that isnt good enough. All youre doing is playing Black Legion except youre restricting yourself to play a fluffy list. The old legions compensated you for playing as them by giving you special rules, abilities and units. Now youre just taking a black legion prince with a mark. Not the same at all.

However, the other poster summed up the other 4 legions a little too vaguely. For instance, Night Lords also had +1 to cover saves (3+ in this edition would be pretty huge), and could see through the dark.

What the hell are you on about? The World Eaters, Thousand Sons, Emperor's Children, and Death Guard are far too different from normal Chaos Marines to NOT have their own codex. Read the previous CSM codex, and try saying that again.

The only major differences that the four Undivided Legions have from vanilla CSM are...

Alpha Legion: Cultists and Infiltrate.
Iron Warriors: Basilisks, Demolishers, no limit on Oblits (two of which are redundant now).
Night Lords: More fast attack, less heavy support.
Word Bearers: Evil chaplains and can use any Daemons.

Whereas the four Dedicated Legions are so radically different from normal CSM that they deserve at least a big codex to cover all four of them. World Eaters, for instance, were not just CSM with Icons of Khorne. Your entire army was a horde of flying rodent gak insane frothing Berzerkers who you had little control over, but annihilated what they hit.

Death Guard were slow, had a limit on Rhinos, couldn't have heavy weapons on their footsloggers, and gave Necrons a run for their money as the toughest army.

Emperor's Children had so many sonic blasters and blastmasters it wasn't funny. Havocs, Dreadnoughts, Predators, and plenty of other units could take sonic blasters and blastmasters.

Thousand Sons... well, not many people played them, even though Rubric Marines had two wounds and their bolters were blast weapons. I dunno why, to be honest.

But the point is, the fact that the Dedicated Legions had huge alterations to their playstyle compared to the Undivided Legions. The currect codex does not, in any way, represent the Dedicated Legions.

You sir are on the Money. As far as the Undivided legions go I forsee that in the next book they will Make the next Main book all about them(Night lords Fast Attack, Iron Warriors Heavy Support, Dark Apostles and Daemons for Word Bearers, more sneaky units for alpha legion)

The Dedicated legions need to be seperate in at least some capacity.

Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

That is the key thing on why the four main Legions getting their own book would be good.

As they could then revist the Renegades book and transform it into a proper undivided legions codex.

Bring back their sub lists (more likely a special character to grant goodies) and most if not all Chaos Gamers would be happy.

Of course the only downside as H.B.M.C said is the turn around for other codex's trapped in the tidal wave of 'Marine' books.

Might not be a problem though if they waited until after the four drastic updates folks want. (DH/WH, Tyranids, Necrons and DE.) Before they start throwing Legions at us.
