More recently, I take "Superfexes"... Really kitted-out carnifexes with something like 100 points of extra biomorphs. What isn't cool about three 200 point monstrous creatures massacring a bunch of space marines?
I'm guilty of superfexes too, I love my 300 point carnifex especially in 600 point games. It's still better than PAGK, and about the same points cost lol.

I don't use it anymore, but in the old IG book my favorite PCS was a single missile Launcher and two plasma guns. I never met another person that used that combo, and I knew that the ML didn't fit in right with that plasmas, but they just always worked. I'd take 2-4 of the damn things, even in tournament games.

I fielded those PCS (ML & dual Plasma), too.
Right up until the point at which Apoc came out and 40k became an Objectives game.
At that point, it became sui-Drop with quad Plasma.

I stayed with them until the new book. They're a good unit: a leadership node with Iron Discipline, some nice long range fire, the ability to move and shoot two plasmas, some ablative wounds before you lost whatever was more valuable, and the whole thing shredded transports and MEQs. All for 80pts.

Playing more Apoc, where you need to hit points fast and hard, sui-drop plasma worked better for me.

My guilty pleasure units are for Eldar. They would be, guardians (even more guilty if I use a bright lance instead of scatter laser), wraithlords (BL EML, like 6 games in a row have not killed a single vehicle with 2 of these Wraithlords).

My guilty pleasure is a fully tooled up DE retinue. Thats an Archon with shadow field, combat drugs, punisher and tormentor helm. 6 normal Incubi. 2 Warriors with splinter cannons. A raider. And Drazhar. Thats 466 points.
They are prehaps the most powerful assult unit on the charge in the entire game as long as they have suffered few casualties on the way in. I mean 24 I5 Ws5 S4 power weapon attacks from the Incubi. 4 I6 Ws6 S4 power weapon attacks where every hit causes two wounds (so if he hits twice he wounds 4 times) from Drazhar. and 5-6 Ws 6 S4-5 power weapon attacks from the lord. Nothing survives to hit back.
They are just soo fun because even if you hit at a quarter strength they still will kill almost any unit in the game. They die to battle cannons though and its rare for the raider to survive beyond the second turn. Massive points sink though

Do my Daemon Hunters count?
More specifically Inquisitors. Jr. Inquisitors with a psycannon and 3 HB for a firebase. Sometimes just a Jr. Inq with a psycannon and power sword I attach to a regular squad.
Inq Storm Troop Sgt with a thunder hammer. Darn he was good in 3rd edition.
AND an =I= lord with lightning claws, arti armor, 3 followers with storm shields, 3 servitors with powerfists. 100s and 100s of points for a S3 assault unit but I love them so much...

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
