Ok , maybe i was'nt detailed enough in the first post i made , so i whanna repost this :

We(they) could be better , but i mean , we're 14 , we're supposed to be annoying , we are just at that stage in life .

I , for one , hate some of my ex-friends becouse they decited this joke i made whas true and are fething brats nowdays . I mean , some people of my age are so friggin annoying i whanna shoot myself !

But when adults act like that , thats just wrong . I mean , at 17 you should be over that stage .
Whining about rules/loosing games is something thats supposed to be done by a.. 10 year old or so . Then they learn no one wants to play with one that acts like that .

For the few of you that voted "Exterminatus - Controversial but effective" , think about it . What gonna happen when you all die of age or whatever ? The hobby will die with you oldies(not intendes as an insult.) and dry up . Grow up for crying out loud !

If anyone has a real issue with new young blood in the game they need to wake up. It's the fresh young players getting into it that keeps the game alive. Without them there is eventually going to be no game.

I'm 34 and I started when I was about 15. I got into the painting - I didn't wargame until I was about 30...funnily enough. Sure some of the youngsters are annoying but so what - we need to mentor them.

I work with kids so generally I'm pretty tolerant of the younger folk, although I find younger teenagers with their 'I'm the greatest" attitude annoying but I suppose I was like that once too. That being said, I do enjoy a break from kids every once in a while. Too much of a thing and all that jazz.

BTW, I'm 16, so I;m not sure if I'm considered a "young person" in the context of this poll.

I think another point is this im 15 and i think other teens/ kids can be a pain and others are great, it all depends on the person, i mean some adult gamers can be a pain as well.

Its the person not the age although there are those kids who need Exterminatus, but that doesn't only apply to when theyre gaming.

O H I am in the Webway...

I find that some young kids can be quite the opponent and you can have a good time against them and really teach them something.

Really it's YMMV. I've heard horror stories of a 30+ year old (maybe even older!) throwing hissy fits and storming out of stores and other interesting actions... and I've heard stories about the 10 year olds and even teenagers who do the same!

Personally, there are about 3 kids at the LGS who will get a game going, are very annoying, and do all the things you would expect from someone that age. They run away from the table when it's not their turn and don't really play. They just move stuff around and shout. Which you really can't criticize a child for doing, they are children, but honestly it can get frustrating.

I have played games against another kid who was no older than 11 and I taught him a lot and we both had a good time (I hope! I did on my part .) I have also played a game against a 14 year old (I was also 14 at the time) and he was so petty and immature his dad (a great guy) took him out of the store and almost tanned his hide outside the store for being immature!

Overall... YMMV

Yes we can be annoying. But we can also be those that the elder players could enjoy. This depends on the person as an individual.

I for one take it serious when at my FLGS but not like " Yes! I have to win!". Others just play and be stupid during games. I'm not saying dont generalize because it doesn't depend on our personalities but also the older player's personalities.

The older players can generalize, miss out on a couple of games and such. They may also miss out on some really good games but it doesn't worry me. I'm not going to loose sleep over it.

Eidolon, I can't begin to tell you how much respect I have for you because of this statement. I have never had the experience of playing 40k with a youngster (the youngest being 18 and I myself but 25), but I have introduced others to the gaming hobby in general, many of them young 'uns.

I won't say that it's always easy getting youngsters to grasp the concepts/rules of a game, but if you can take the time and effort to help someone out, then you are making ANY hobby better.

Kudos to you sir!

I dont help so much with rules. Although I will point out rules being played incorrectly, regardless of whether I am playing or not. This might make me TFG, I dunno, but I feel that interfering on rules is ok.

What I do help with is stuff like tactics. Ill stop them in the middle of a move and say "wait, if you move that unit here I can come up and destroy it with this". However I have to catch this in the act. Once a game is over I often dont remember how I won.

And army lists. There is a local kid about 12 years old who plays eldar. Just started, so as you can imagine running one of the more finesse armies out there and being new does not a good win loss ratio make. I sat down with him before a game. Pointing out that his wave serpents did not need vectored engines, the points he had listed for the guns were 10 over, and that a destructor lock is generally better then an enhance one for storm guardian squads. I also gave in game advice. He had eldrad and 10 bladestorm avengers in a serpent. Rather then pulling right up to my terminators, I suggested he sit back, make sure he is at least 12 but no more then 18 inches away, guide the squad and doom the terminators. Between the serpent and avengers I lost the squad, and the game. But thats alright.

If you are a real shiteater though expect no mercy. I could care less how good you are on the table top. But I will try my best to table obnoxious people. This in itself makes me obnoxious, but whatever.

I am only 14 started at 12 and yes, I won't lie, I was fething annoying, but, as I got more involved I was 'tempered' by experience and while I can get quite annoyed with the whinyness of players my own age, I will admit this.
I wasn't a fan of the LOTR game untill recently 2 kids (8-10 probably) and started LOTR one evil, and one good, I must say their energy motivated me to get out my old Dwarf Rangers from about a year ago that a friend gave me (11 of them) and am now looking for enough $$$ to start properly, rulebook and all.

I started in the hobby when I was 12. I was annoying. My friends, at the time, were just as annoying. We played models that looked cool. We painted them, sometimes to a standard I have a hard time meeting 23 years later. Some of us still play.

I voted not bad, mostly due to the kids at my FLGS. We have three players in that range, some mid-range teens, a few twenty-somethings, and some that are even older. If I were to look at which age represents the most annoying segment, then I'd have to call Exterminatus on the 30+'ers. We're still bad. We don't learn. We have so much rules cruft that we tend to feel we don't need to read the Fenris forsaken manual.

Then again, those Pokemon kids...

I have had diffrent experinces with the yuong'ens. I could be cosidered one (age 15 as of tomorrow), and I am very mature for my age. I have freinds who go up there, and some of the young ones are good players, and will know how to play the game. Thouse kinds, as I am sure we will all agree, are the good kind of kids. Now the bad ones.... We have parents who play here, same as every store, but these parents bring their kids who DONT play the hobby. The just run around and scream. Kinda hard to concentrate. Then some of the little ones are the kind of people who think they are always right, and insist in being in charge even if they dont know what we are doing. We kicked a guy OUT of planetstrike for doing that. (Anyone at the Seattle bunker on the 17th of october will know who) Then the adults, who will plain out refues to play/ talk to/ look at the kids. Thouse are the worst kind, and have discoruged me time and time agian from the hobby. I have persaverd past them, but they are slowly killing the hobby.

I'm 12, as our nearly all my wargaming pals (the youngest are 11) and I don't think anyone views us as annoying. In fact, at my local GW store, I've earned some respect, mainly from trumping the adults with my orks.

I am 12 and find most of the other wargamers are annoying as the fact that they claim they love the hobby, yet they still laugh when they kill a model, cheat with obvious rules and generally spoil it for me. That and it's all they talk about.

Your educated manner of speaking proves my point quite nicely:

It really depends on who. I started wargaming at 12 and maturity's never been an issue for me. Plenty of younger wargamers are wise beyond their years.

Some, however, would be great Lictor bait.

While fresh blood is important to any hobby, it needn't be YOUNG blood. Just warm, red arterial blood. It keeps the rest of us young (but that bathing in it lark just DOESN'T work).

I view the kids as a necessary evil.

Then again, I didn't start 40k until I was already an adult (20) - couldn't start it younger, as it was 'NEW' then. I had been gaming for a few years before that. There are kids in my club that live and breathe the game every day - and then burn out two years later (the candle that burns twice as hot and all that).

I started when i was five years old. But i have always been mature, though i cant say the same for most of my young adversaries. After you see a savage 12 year old break your friends nicely converted baneblade, you will never want to play against a youngster ever again.
I can safely say that i never showed so much disrespect to my oponents when i was a youngster.

Gah, this is a toughy. I ended up going with "Could be Better - Many are annoying but we were all like that once." I would change it, however, to "many of us are still like that and our latest brand of annoying is the same old thinking that we're totally awesome uber-pwners" (imagine this phrase sliding into Trey Parker's derpty-deprty-derp voice) because I don't think a lot of gamers really get past that. Rather (I say this half-jokingly), they grow up to be tournament players. I can't wait to have a son to teach but have little interest in investing that time and patience into someone else's hellion. Despite not wanting to sound too biggoted the agist, I'd be dishonest to say I'd give a youngster a game. Yes, I'd rather not play at all than play with someone younger than eighteen or so (case-by-case maturity check, obviously). On the other hand, I'm glad that some people do so that the hobby is re-invigorated. Trouble is, the guys that so often take the trouble are the same ones who haven't grown up and like playing king to all the youngins (let's call them "Rufios"). The impressionable youth therefore become the next generation of buttholes infesting the FLGS.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Coincidentally, some of the redshirts I've seen in MI are the best at encouraging play-for-fun attitudes among the younger gamers.

i started when i was twelve,
when i was thirteen i took part in a large game with some mates who had just started(who were also twelve)
i small disagreement over rules led to a full scale argument,
this argument led to 6 of my guardsmen minorly damaged and two beyond repair,
i saved the majority of my troops before a small toy cow was thrown at the eldar player, smashing a wave serpent and a dozen guardians... i then escaped out the front door and left them to it.
none of my oponents of that day still play the game, i am the only one left.

I hate kids in general, though all of the younger Warhammer players I have met have proven maturity greater than a good deal of the people here on Dakka. I think it must be due to the required patience and dedication to the hobby, or perhaps the not-so-mature kids are beaten back out of the hobby by harsher players (me).

I don't mind them overall, there enthusiasm always seems to inspire me, and they make a nice addition to our wargaming community.

I'm 14 and i voted for A bit annoying. I tend to really focus on the hobby due to Aspergers, and it can be really frustrating when trying to play someone who isnt really paying attention to the game, especialy since, in the area where I live, "FLGS" tends to translate to people as "toy shop to dump children for an hour while I go clothes shopping. So our Store tends to be crowded with mothers solding me about the amount of money I spend on miniatures, whilst there children destroy them, or 8-10 year olds asking me about the game, and when I tell them about the models, the general response is "You have to paint them?! Thats (Insert age-inappropriate exclamation here)!" When I was starting out, I barely knew the rules, and could get a bit annoying flipping through the core book. But always learned from the mistakes I made and swiftly learned the rules. Now I try to play a game against a young person and I find myself looking up to see that the player in question has wondered of to look at the latest LOTR release, or bashing two models together in "close combat." I know it is nign critical to get new blood into the hobby, but the game is really for 14 year olds at the lowest, not for grubby little 8 year olds.
