I believe in love , because i have loved someone before.
Thus i believe myself that feeling is indeed love.

That is why I love guns and my '69 Plymouth Roadrunner. Neither my guns or my car have let me down or broken my heart.
Love sucks for the most part though...even though I currently feel it for someone (and yes she is a real girl).

I believe in the power of emotion. I love a lot of things, and it seems this thread is focusing on the more 'tangible' love of another person. I dunno... this clay is pretty damn tangible to me... but so are boobs... mmmm....

There is a difference between in love and love. Loving someone is an affirmative act. Its work. its what happens after the "in love" part burns away.

I hope I never fall in "true love". I suspect it would have a serious negative impact on my ability to make sound, rational, utility-maximizing decisions.
Its a catch 22 ( I hope thats a worldwide known saying), if you avoid it then you are missing out on something that can be truely wonderous and make you extremely happy for the rest of your life or for as long as the relationship lasts ( which i hope would be your whole life), if you embrace you risk having your world fall apart if anything happens to your partner and you are left trying to cope with the loss of what you had.

I believe we throw the word love around too much- but in the end it is a similar feeling- we just have to understand the differences in loving a game, a food, a person , and ect. When it comes to people, there is a whole other side to it- their love and feelngs are involved- so it is a million times more complicated than loving to play street fighter or cheesecake. I don't believe in soul mates and fate and that sort of mystic or religious sillyness. I believe we are here for a very short time- enjoy everyting and everyone you can- treat people as well as they treat you- and if you care about someone make sure they know it. You never know what your actions and feeling could mean to a person- plus you never hear of people committing violent crimes or killing themselves because too many people told the person they meant alot to them. Learned the hard way...

Love is something that you must have faith in to experience. If you don't believe in it, the sparks that can ignite that lasting passion will never catch. If you are too wet from the last time you were in love, or too scorched, then the flames of passion may not ignite for you either. But if you are just right, then the fire that those sparks light will keep you warm for as long as you tend it, add fuel to it, and care for it. Keeping love alive once you have it is life's most rewarding task. It is dangerous, all consuming and can make you dinner as easily as it burns your house down around you.

I know enough to be able to have formed my opinions on the subject. "Love" is nothing but a social construct used to control a biochemical hormonal reaction. If you disagree, please explain why. I am not intending to cause a flamefest btw. This is my honest opinion, and I hope a good discussion can arise from this.

Love is simply a word to describe how someone feels about someone or something, mainly a deep attraction and desire to be around or with that someone or thing.
I love my girlfriend (soon to be fiance) but I have no desire for children (which is the biochemical hormonal reaction you keep referring to, to spread ones genes to the next generation via copulation with a desirable mate). Instead my attraction is to her, not to the though of little baby Seanrons (*shudder*)
Love is a word, and is equally as meaningful or meaningless as any other world. the phrase "biochemical hormonal reaction" is as equally meaningless to someone like me as "love" is to yourself. I generally find it is people who have not experienced the sort of emotions and feelings we equate with love who share your viewpoint. For someone who hasn't experienced it to make such a sweeping comment on it (and you most definately have not if you purport not to believ in it) is like me making sweeping statements on the American Justice System or GW making sweeping comments on Warmachine and how its rules dont work (y'see what I did there :p)
