Heh. I'll try to remember not to post when I'm in a bad mood so. Honestly I enjoy OT as it is for the most part but yeah, personal attacks have been on the upswing, mostly focused around a couple of users.

York/London(for weekends) oh for the glory of the british rail industry

I enjoy the fact that there are alot of people who have a very varied mix of viewpoints and ideals, like jeb, killkrazy or dogma, but you can still have a polite, entertaining ab d thought provoking debate.
what i don't like is looking forward to posting on a thread you are enjoying, to find its been locked because to two posters have got into a flame war all started because of a single mispelling, followed by 'your an iliterate idiot, so your view is meaningless' type reply.
i love the OT forum, please be friendly, i know i will

OT forum has no place in dakka, in my opinion, but then again, I don't give a gak.

Why do you think so?

OT forum has lots of interesting discussions, from religion, to snowballs. Dakka wouldn't be the same without the OT forum.

I always thought of Dakka as a more of a TT related forum (which it is) that doesn't really have a place for an OT forum.

Again, I don't care, I only come into the OT forum when the holiday come around, which is good fun.

Aaaawww maaaannn!

Has someone said something that could have conceivably, with a massive dose of righteousness, been construed, on some level, as possibly, maybe, somehow, perchance, offensive?

Cmon gaise! Straighten up for facksake. If I wanted the possibility of this type of interaction occasionally cropping up I'd leave the basement intermittently. I'm too fragile for this type of thing, having grown up in a bubble where strict rules of ettiquette were enforced at all times. Shame on you for pulling me out!

Most of my dogmatic anger ends up in the fluff forum for some reason.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Dont be a jerk.
And were good?

Basicly this should be enough, however, this being the internet it's a bit more difficult to honestly interpet when someone is "being a jerk" (sarcasam/banter and comments made in jest can all be misinterpited).
Also, perception plays a part in opinion, for example,if in a post someone was to state " People with tattoos will generaly end up flipping burgers for a living",then people who are tattooed may see that statement as some sort of personal attack, when in all honesty it's simply the posters opinion, and he/she is intitled to it.
I personaly belive that opinion (no matter how unpopular) should be welcomed, and that only personal attacks ( poster A calls poster B a "fething idiot")should be subject to scrutiny.
But that's just my opinion.

Yup, what he said
unless the mods are willing to come down even harder and were not allowed to defend out views, brush fires are going to prop up. a place in the forum thats monitored and geared to handle that is all good. so long as were polite, there isnt any reason not to be passionate about some of the topics. in this comunity we have alot of groups that dont see eye to eye. it causes disputes, discussions and yes the odd flame but i think the mods do a great job of stoping things from getting to far out of control. and lets not forget, some Mods are right in there slugging their views as well. i say OT is a great place.

I promise to behave more than I have. I can't promise I won't offend someone as anyone can be offended by anything said.

I'm back for the new Tyranid rumor thread. Probably only post in gun threads or anything non-political.
