I buy from the WarStore, typically, but for odd one offs (Characters or codices etc.) I would buy from my local GW or FLGS
Until they both closed down.

I buy mostly from the Warstore, with smaller companies' models and imports from Cool Mini or Not. I don't make it out to the FLGS (it is 30 minutes distant) much, but when I do go for games and the like I usually pick up some paints or a codex or something.
I used to order from eBay a lot, but I found that the discount isn't a lot better than the Warstore, and it led to a lot of impulse "But, it is 40% off!" purchases of things that I didn't really need or even want that badly. Plus it is just more work than I want to put into it.

I would buy from Maelstrom Games, but you know... they left me out of pocket. *Rimshot No, but seriously I use my Ebay, Dakka and my FLGS in that order. I'm not paying 60 dollars for Asdrubael Vect. (Disclaimer - I'm sure Maelstrom is highly reputable.)

I buy from my local GW store. How's that boycott going by the way? (this is where people start shaking tiny impotent fists)
I also occasionally buy from Warstore and various ebay sellers.

At least twice a year I buy a large lot of minis. I generally will buy these from the Warstore. If I have the cash to spare and the local store actually has the minis I want I will buy from the flgs.

Of the four places I've lived, this is the first time my FLGS has been within convenient driving distance as opposed to 30 minutes away. I support them with every wargaming dime I've got.

Local gaming store for me. It's the only one we've got in Slovenia. Many people turn more and more towards the
internets and I get that ( deal wise ) but I think supporting your local venue is important if a bit more expensive at times.

I buy mine from a friends shop, where I get a bit of extra discount for helping out ^^
That'll be of little help to you being on the other side of the world so I would suggest giving the interwebs a try...it's not as evil as you might think

I buy as much as I can from bartertown. When I need something new I will usually use warstore or Rattlehead. That said, occasionally I will get something I really need at GW.
Also, I do make intentional periodic purchases at the only Chicago FLGS I know of, Black Sun Games. It's about 20 minutes on the other side of town, and they aren't going to stay afloat on my sales, but it's important to me to support the local FLGS.

I forgot about Rattlehead -- they are good. They carry lots of interesting stuff. http://rattleheadgames.com/

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Awesome shop, family owned business, owner is a gamer and loves his Orcs, loves his Trolls and a great painter himself. I feel better buying from a fellow gamer who is into the hobby. Plus I know i'm helping his family out.
I have stopped buying from GW, I buy my paints and stuff from Showcase. I have let go of my former dislike of GW as a parent company, but still feel more inclined to support the independent retailers who work even harder to keep themself aloft.

My post will not help you much, because of my location, I could only add another point of view to this discussion.
I used to buy from independant game stores. They offer a handy rebate of 5-10%, usually other miniatures from various ranges. They don't put aggressive incentive on me to buy something at the moment I put a foot inside. Something that can happen in GW stores (depends on staffers though). Ambiance is more quiet and mature. Doing that, I also encourage independant retailers over "Great Wulture".
Sadly, a year & half ago, my FLGS closed. I am forced to move to Paris to find a nicely animated store (they are good places by the way). Still, I did not bought lot of stuff there recently, neither in my local GW, maybe a random box or tools from time to time. Just for one stupid reason.
Insane price gap.
British pound value dropped significantely, about 1.10 euro for 1£ last year. But it's like GW pretends this did not happened, and still applies the old 1.5 rate. Worse : last year (or was it just before, don't remember...) GW official prices raised, while they did not in GB at the same time. About 5 € for most boxes, half less for smaller stuff.
Finally, I (with my brother), put an order from a well known online retailer (Maelstrom), not huge, a bunch of tanks & infantry for each. So we paid 45% less than the official GW price !! Even counting shipping, absolutely. No one else can compete, that's it.
Situation has so much inbalance, that a lot of people in continental Europe do so, for significantely big orders.
Here GW stores have crappy profitability, guess why GW ?

GW store for impulse purchases, Maelstrom for most, if I don't mind waiting.
