This is what I imagine the teams to be hauling around. (we're talking framework and weight, not the purpose of the weapon.) Something designed to lay out accurate shots over a long distance, that requires two men to crew.

While I agree that Rail Rifles should have a longer range...the gun we're suggesting is more comparable to a sighted and fine-tuned autocannon.

Exactly.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Yeah, but the Rail Rifles will be cut back to 23". Yes! 23"! Tau will have weird measurements for ALL their weapons!

I apologize for my crappy Macbook camera pictures, I will try to borrow my girlfriend's camera tomorrow to give a better idea of what I've done thus far.
(I am a fan of the first style personally. Comments, concerns, and esoteric speculations are appreciated...especially when I can upload better pics tomorrow.)

Style 1:
Took standard Heavy Weapon team members, took a bipod from the HW sprue, some shrubs from a terrain kit, and one of the upgrade guns for the Stormlord. Threw in some scopes from HW sprue.

[I like how this one looks, with some painting, and work done to the base...seems like it'll be a pretty good model. The gun seems to be perfect for what we've been discussing, and the addition of a random scope or two has helped change the feel of the weapon.]

Style 2:
Took standard Heavy Weapon team, used Lascannon with tripod, shrubs from terrain kit, added random bits of Kroot attachments (knives etc.)

[Not a fan, looks like a Lascannon in cover...the gun just seems to bulky for what we've been discussing.]

Have been working on the model. Still needs significant touching up, but the bigger picture is becoming clearer. Enjoy!
