I thought it was an amazing movie and a lot of effort was put into it. I mean, they named EVERY plant used. That is effort. My only problem is how much they evilized the Military. In the beginning he says they are more like hired guns but that wasn't reinforced and made the human military look bad even thought it really wasn't the cooperation.

I don't complain about GW raising prices next week, it would just make me feel better about getting out of GW games.

However, unlike Twilight, the books were incredible!

They go waaay downhill right after God-Emperor of Dune.

It was Futarded to have a suit that carried a gun (instead of it mounted to it) much less one with a knife sheathed at it's side.

it's awesome that you can get around a moderater rule (Like, say, "We don't use 'slowed' because it's bad mmmkay.") by changing 2 letters and going on your merry way.

If that's so, why haven't you done the same?

Really doubtful. Star Wars* was the first high concept movie, a film that focusses on a setting that can be explained in a few words, and on keeping the themes universal. It smashed box office records because it appealed to the whole market. If you look through the list of the top grossing films they follow the same model, Avatar included.

Dune does not fit the mould. The setting is complex - a full understanding requires more knowledge of medieval politics than the average person has. The themes are even less accessible, the complexities of pre-destination and the alienating effect of power are extremely difficult issues to get across in a mainstream movie.

David Lynch knew this, and it’s why Dune was more or less refined down into a straight forward hero’s journey for his film. I love that movie because it’s so pretty, but I understand how fans of the book feel it stripped out too much of the book, and how much of the general public were confused by the complex world they were asked to digest in a little over two hours.

*Well, Star Wars or Jaws, depending on the film student you're talking to at the time.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I liked the sci fi miniseries of Dune. Low budget but I think it captured a lot of the midieval messiah aspects well.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
