Since everyone tells that Avatar is da movie of the year,I found it very average in it's story.Film to me is good because of it's special effects.
I hate the main character and the fact that RDA didn't bring heavy weapons on Pandora(they were prohibited from that I think)like nukes(they wanted planet intact, but they could bombard Mary Sue Smurfs in case of their defeat) and some vehicles.
What an idiot would make such a big visor on that exoskeleton.
RDA was defeated by some Deus Ex Machinima planet's intelligence(which seems to be stolen form some game which name I can not recall) and I couldn't resist to see some 40k on Pandora(Catchans fighting Na'vi and Space Marines slaughtering anything).

It's not just a military weapon. It was also used to do heavy lifting and whatnot at the main base.

It suffers because of this dual role. I highly doubt that it was originally supposed to be a military weapon in the first place.

Yeah, story is pretty much Native-American vs. conquerors set in the future. Very cliche. Special effects yeah i liked them too.

Seemed like a good movie to watch on a huge with some friends eating popcorn, drinking beer and ripping off on the characters. I wouldn't see it twice however, i just find it...not worthy.

I think all the big fuss they make about it has absolutely no basis except for the effects, technology involved in its production, and the huge, huge budget

Avatar is like a really plain girl with a fantastic make up job.
The plot is fairly uninspired, and has been run through in countless other movies, but the special effects were incredible.

People are all butt-hurt that a movie that they nit-picked to death has made over 2 billion USD world-wide.

I think that I'll go see it again to spite them.

To be fair Pocahontas is just the standard White Guilt Plot Template. I am sure you could fit Dances with wolves, Last Samurai or any other movie with a white star in a sea of minorities.

I disliked the fact that you knew exactly what was going to happen all along. When the guy gets on the horse, we all knew he was going to fall off but we'd love him anyway. *blegh*

But truth be told I've seen worse movies.

Yeah. But the thing that really sucked(imo) was the ending. I mean, what the hell? Some priestess transports his soul to his avatar body. How in god's name could that happen?

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Pocahontas" bs that's going on in the Off Topic forum right now. Avatar deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine plotline from James Cameron for $500,000,000 (that's about 45,000,000,000 yen) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid insomnia with my plotline.

Famous directors spend years working on a single Avatar and repeat cliches up to a million times to produce the finest movie known to mankind.

Avatar is thrice as long as Pocahontas and thrice as ham-fisted for that matter too. Anything Pocahontas can preach, Avatar can preach better. I'm pretty sure Avatar could easily bisect a Captain Planet episode with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why Star Wars never bothered conquering Avatar? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Cameron and his boilerplates of destruction. Even in World War II, Internet soldiers targeted the plotline of Avatar first because it's killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Dances with Wolves is simply the best movie that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the Oscar system. Here is the stat block I propose for Avatar:

Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Writing, Best Characters, Best Aesop, Best CGI, Best Director, Counts as Original

Now that seems a lot more representative of the entertaining power of Avatar in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Avatar needs to do more damage in the Oscars, see my new stat block.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I hated the entire thing from start to finish, it was the most corny cliched plot i have seen in 15 years and if i wasnt in an IMAX theatre i would have walked out.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

The point is that IG and Protoss are themselves derivative - there's nothing new under the sun and there's nothing wrong with that. What makes the background of 40K an original, valuable work is the way in which it is realised with miniatures. What makes Avatar an original, valuable work is the way in which the story is realised with imagery previously impossible.

What's odd is how often geeks will rail against whatever's popular, they just can't stand that something might be a mainstream success even though it didn't meet their personal film preferences. It's odd that people would complain about how unoriginal a film is in a thread that's so very old, so very predictable.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I wonder how they will do the sequel? Ships come and burn everything on the surface? Then when the fires die out they build a mining instalation.

And why can everything connect with everything? What is the evolutionary point to it? But in the end i found it nice enough if you dont think to much about it.
