Rum is for women.

Yukon Jack and Coke is my drink of choice. Not much a fan of lime juice. Love Key Lime Pie but not so much lime juice itself.

A Scottish colleague of mine prefers certain blends to most single malts.

I do know military income is not used to determine assistance programs like WIC and MA. One of my friends and his wife are on WIC which would not be possible if SS used his income as basis. He made too much on his own to qualify, they only used his wifes.

He might have paid taxes for 22 months of overseas combat pay but he was given a tax break so he either didn't pay as much or got a larger refund/EITC.

Clarification: pay earned while in a combat zone (Iraq, A'stan, etc.) is not taxed. Pay earned anywhere else, including duty stations like Korea, Germany and of course stateside, is still subject to federal taxes. It's why people do things like re-enlist on an aircraft while it's flying over the Middle East, so their re-enlistment bonus doesn't get trimmed by Uncle Sam.

So I was right after all. I wasn't sure about the weekend warrior pay but I knew my friends weren't lying when they said the pay they got for 22 months of overseas duty (amounting to between 60-80k for some of them) wasn't taxed at all.

Bet the ones telling me I misunderstood or typing without thinking are the ones feeling dumb now.

No, you were still wrong because you said military pay, as a general concept, wasn't subject to tax.

I think I pointed out later that they had told me their Iraq pay wasn't taxed.

I blanketed it but I was right to an extent.

Either way I think taxes will be raised on the middle class. With the various bail outs and goverment healthcare and what not, they will not have a choice.(That includes the national debt)
