Yes its supposedly a light hearted thread, but you get some 'light hearted' vile propaganda someone will still believe it. Trust me on this, I have seen a lot of abuse for being religious in my time, and the odd lies people like to believe about Christianity and Christians helps fuel that. I can handle being the butt of jokes for my faith, every good Christian should be able to do that, but the thread isn't clear when people are switching from bigotry to humour and back again, and that is no good for anyone. The basic concept of the thread is fair enough, but it devolves too easily.

I just find it difficult to take Religion seriously; i mean anything a Religion does for the world can be done by anyone without the need for some kind of all-powerful being getting mixed up in it.

Given that this is how a lot of people feel, Religion is rapidly becoming just another weird belief, (like conspiracy theorists/UFO hunters) providing fertile ground for non-meaningful discussion. Like this thread.

I think this is the more accurate statement. I've read just as many amazingly ignorant things here said about atheists as I have Christianity. And let's be honest, 95% of time that is what it is being talked about. Jainism, Judaism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, et all rarely come up. Islam usually comes up in the context of terrorism.
