I prefer the codices/army books remain valid even if some armies become unbalanced by the new rules.
I prefer all the codices/army books become invalid and are temporarily replaced by a 'get you by' set of army lists.
I have no preference or don't play those games.

Although I voted for the second choice, since reading the other posts I have changed my mind.

I would be pretty frustrated if my whole army was bland and only SM got a codex. Although I play ork and they probably wouldn't be too far behind, I sympathize for necron and DE.

Droofus wrote:For me, 6th edition was the height of my enjoyment with Fantasy. They started it off with a PDF full of "get you by" lists called ravening hordes. They were simplistic rules with small magic items sections and only a few special rules for each army, but because everyone was playing with the same thing, it was great!

I'm sure that would be fine for a while until a long time goes by and everyone else has their new codex but you.

When they released Ravening Hoardes for 6th Ed fantasy, that was a great idea.

Don't you SM people worry. SM is always the first book to be redone, so you get your toys first.

Then we get to run through Codex Creep all over.

I was surprised to find myself facing an coin flip... almost. I went with "keep the books valid" but I had to think about it for a while. I guess it comes down to how dramatically the game changes. Ravening hordes worked well when it came out, although it did mean a long wait for some armies.

Again, with Fantasy 8th, a few books were terribly obsolete with clashing rules. Never the less, stability from knowing you can use the book for a few years is a welcome addition.

Hmm, I think writing "get you by" rules for every codex would take gw a while and slow down them down a bunch...

I voted A, with the hope that FAQs of worth follow in the ensuing weeks (not months) to keep the armies with old rules fresh like ziploc.
