I like the etched brass bits, they add a lot of detail..I just don't know if they add any weight to the flamer.

TBH it might be time to put him aside, concentrate on some of your other models and come back to him with a fresh eye.
Whenever I am working to a deadline I find I can become stuck on a detail and then have to rush to finish.

Just my two cents, I still think it looks great

I actually did start to move on, but it was so hard not to come back to it. Sigh, ill try not to for a little while and get hooked on finishing more of the squad.

Not much here, just thought i would add a little color to this blog. Just a base concept. Im not going to use this one, it is a mock up to see how well MIG pigments would make rust on a much smaller scale. I wanted it to look like old rundown rustic stairs, which will be the idea for the squad. I have the rust kind of discoloring the steps as well, much like how it would almost rub off on things in real life. I tried to keep the colors of the step lighter and cooler, considering the squad will be in dark tints and warmer colors.

These steps were made using my cork and sand style. With a little plasticard to add the more mechanical riveted support.

Let me know what you think of this idea.

Beautiful work. Very impressed with the fiddly plasticard. I'm doing some Ork Nobs converting from the AoBR to Mega Armour... even that is tricky for me at present, so my hat is off to you.

They look great. The only thing I would say is that it still looks like cork on the top though as you can see the holes in it. If you fill them with putty juice it should solve the problem quickly enough!

Thanks man. I want to add a few more things but im not sure as to what. You know functional? I started on the second missionary, got just the bottom half done. This will be a blind one that has MANY MANY books as cargo. He will have a skull servitor to write for him I have the skull servitor almost finished...Here is a pic. Now remember how small this thing really is. Man it was tough making it. The pics are kind of bad.

Right now im trying to make a pen for the wire coming out of the top. I just cant get the size right.

I'm not so sure about the pigments. It looks more like a coating of mud than it does rust.

Mostly, on my phone.

In no way does this look like a toilet roll dispenser No, this is really, really impressive - I'm only kidding. How about using the feather from the helm of (say) an Empire outrider (or similar?) as a quill?

lol, tp

I see what they mean about the rust, make sure you use at least 3 tones of powder, starting with a burnt sienna, and going to the oranges towards the middle. awesomepaintjob.com has awesome rust pigment sets, 3 colors

Thanks guys. Not going to lie i laughed to myself while i was making it thinking about a TP roll and how it works to get the right effect.

I never thought about another color...hmmm, i picked up the rust colors that were available, not really thinking about the older rust which would be a brown not an orange brown.

Definitely add two more colors to the rust, but I would suggest doing it in spots, as apposed to radiating from the middle.

maybe it's the second cup of coffee finally getting filtered through the kidneys but that skull reminds me of a little toilet paper drone, lol. nice sculpting work, though. i'm looking forward to seeing the final inquisitor.

Dang, I have one of the FW servo skulls that comes with solomon lok and I know how small it is. You've got some real skills if you can recreate it in the same scale Well Done!

DUDE 4 dollars a pop, im paying 8-9 for MIGs right now. That cant be beat. Straight pigments are not cheap, and the bottles i get have A LOT and i really dont use all that much so that would be perfect, any idea on how fast he ships?

He was good, it's him himself who deals with the orders, sent them out pretty quick, but not lightning fast. Took a week or 2 as I recall. Well worth it though, LOTS of pigment per pot.

That would work perfectly, considering my personal deadline for the modeling is two weeks. Oh and i have decided to go with Iquisitor Rex from Forgeworld. Maybe a little converting but nothing super outrageous. i think his detailed armor will fit very well with the squad. Only problem is that he is in terminator armor which means he will be the size of the space marine. You know on second thought, maybe i wont. haha, yea that was a very quick change of mind. I dont know what i will do. The squad should be done, without the inquisitor in 2 weeks.

Im just all kinds of jumbled right now.

Stick to your guns and do something unique brushy, if you get rex it will be boring compared to the rest, if only because he will be the only one people have seen before!

I believe! lol

So i picked up the bretonnian shrine box set thinger, and i have some bitz coming in the mail soon. I also have some modeling putty and a few new things for modeling in general. Can really do that much work without them. The bretonnian shrine will be one AWESOME project i hope. I cant wait to get painting that thing. I plan to pimp out a base for it as well.

So here is something ive been fiddiling with while i await my supplies. I picked this up in hopes of doing a huge warm color to cool color contrast. I experimented with the skin tones and the robes. The washes in the skintones are all cool colors and the robes are all done using earthy colors and warm colors. Thus far im pretty pleased. The contrast added by the gold NMM worked out pretty well also. This is me advancing my basic technique of NMM to a little more blending and highlighting. Hope you guys like it and i promise more to come with the Inquisitor i just need something to do while i wait.

Im not happy with the skin just yet. I think it looks okay just not the quality i was going for. As well i will be doing the washing technique for the Inquisitor and retinue on top of my usual layered highlights.

That's a great model... are they attached a the hip? Relic Bearers, right?

I like the contrast you've built up. The warm robes bring the warmer tones in the skin out, gives it a lot more depth.

I think I'm gonna have to get that model... after I'm done with my orks, that is.

Fantastic job! I anxiously await your next update.

It is a fun mini to paint thus far. Difficult to pin and assemble separately from what i have seen though. I wish it were in plastic. It would be a much more versatile kit if it were.

Here is another one of the relic guys. I really enjoy this one and it is a popular mini to paint. Im doing a lot of experimenting on the others of the regiment besides the holders of the relic. here i went for a very sinister and dark skin tone using cool colors again. I based it in a brown and purple mix working reds and blues into the highlight colors. I think it turned out pretty well. Its not the normal flesh tone, its more worn and battle hardened.

I want to go back and wash the bruises more to blend them into the skin. Right now you can basically see the color transition and i dont want that.

Sorry about the bad pics.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
HUGE problem occurred today. Lets just say im starting from scratch again on the missionaries and the sages, because i used the wrong kind of primer. NEVER i repeat NEVER use GW primer on something you have been working on for a while. HOLY crap did it screw up my model. I mean it fuzzied and cracked and just blew that thing out of the water. I tried to get it off but the model of course just broke apart, due to its fragility. Im so mad that i could just cry, all that work and now its gone. There is no way of resurrecting it i tried. Any ideas on how i should go about this next attempt?

I want the basic idea still i just am real screwed now. Like i dont even know where to begin. I hate GW primer now. So much it makes me sick. Its terrible.
