another update for my dudes. i have a test/practice for the whole 'highlighting where light hits' thing, on a part of an older AM. made some more tacs and some scouts. i have also replaced the shotguns on previous scouts with bolters, because, lets face it, shotguns are as effective as lthrowing pies at the enemy. (thank God i only used a bit of glue on those shotguns!), and the head of the HB scout. i also replaced the 'pointy arm' on a previous tac marine with a normal arm, but with an ex-deathwatch shoulder pad. the pointy arm goes to a marine more worthy of pointing at something. anyhow, lets go!

Made some fluff for the army (changed a few names here and there):

The Horrick system. Not far from Eye of Terror, the system has always been under threat from the forces of Chaos, but for centuries has never seen conflict first hand.
Times Change.
It is 999.M41, and every planet in the system is a raging battleground.
Thiroc, a promethium-rich planet covered in sandy deserts and rocky canyons, is literally dead. Orbital strikes and laser batteries from Chaos ships wiped the planet clean, and is now little more than a lump of rock in space, its air poisonous and atmospheric storms destroying any ship which dares to land upon its cratered surface.
Posvok, a planet covered with arctic snow and covered in rural settlements -par the odd trading cities- is literally burning, the pine forests which provide the planet with its biggest export, are in great forest-fires, with Chaos armies sacking its settlements and slaughtering the population.
In total there are 6 planets in the system, and each of them is dying. The biggest and most populated planet in the system, Doriak, was the main focus of the Chaos attacks, its cities facing destruction one by one.
But the bloodshed was not going unnoticed to the Imperium, and within days of the Chaos assault, battlefleets of the Imperium's finest warped into the Horrick system, and on the surface of every planet, as well as in space, bloody confict ensued.

Upon Doriak, the Imperial Guard made planetfall, and soon the cities were being taken back, inch by inch. The capital city, Brakerok, was where fighting was the worst. The already destroyed buildings from Chaos batteries, were obliterated by Imperial Guard Artillery, and fighting became a vicious, street by street battle. Taking part in the fight to regain Brakerok were regiments from all over the galaxy, many to name included the Cadian 63rd CCAB brigade, Elysian 128th, and the Krieg 793rd. But amongst the guard, the Emperors own, the Astartes, joined the fight. The first Space Marines to receive the call to aid was the Dark Angels 3rd Company, along with other small units from the Silver Eagles and Black Templars.

After many months of heavy fighting, there were a few sporadic reports in the city of disappearances, horrible mutilations, and sporadic firefights behind the frontline with an unknown enemy. A unit of Dark Angel scouts went to investigate, and after a few days of endless searching with no success, they stumbled upon a shocking discovery.
What the scouts found, after it surprised them and almost killed one of their number, was a vile creature -with limbs ending in sharp knife-like talons, and acid spitting maws- of the great devourer. After reporting the discovery, many more of these creatures began emerging from the rubble, each Alien a lone predator, stalking the unwary.
Another month after the report was made, one of the scanners aboard a ship picked up a large fleet, heading right towards the imperial lines. At first it was thought that it was another Chaos fleet, but after a number of chaos ships were seen retreating away from the incoming threat, the Imperial commander realised there was something even more dangerous and destructive than the Chaos fleets, heading right towards him.

wow, that was long. The reason I introduced the Tyranids into this was after watching all 3 Alien films, and both AvP films recently, i sort of got affectionate towards them
aww but their so cuute!

also got the scout sergeant done last night

re-modeled the captain, using the veteran squad sergeant and using the combi-plasma from the old captain. taking off the head was so hard, i had to cover up all the collateral damage wrought by cutting off the hooded head with clippers and a stanley knife (got lovely cuts on my thumb now) , so i tried making a hood with GS. the helmet will have DA wings attached once i've finalized the hood. trust me, the hood does look better than what you see in the picture (though not by much =D)

after reading the DA FAQ GW says now that a WHOLE vet squad can have super duper weps, so i'm going to make a whole 5 man CC combat squad with either PW, PF or LC. yay!

p.s. the head on the vet is the head from the old tac squad, looks pretty cool 'cos he's screaming, AND he has a cool hardman cut down the left side of his face. he's cool!

Huzzah! i finally got the model masterclass book. double huzzah! its snowing again! and still snowing... its like the day after tomorrow here, school was called off after pretty much arriving there a blizzard began. took a while to get home though. so anyway, I've had a practice with the modelling powders i got as well. i might by a MIG rust powder, as the only rust one i got, orange rust, is a bit too vibrant for me.

i used ALOT of powder on one of my IG flamer dudes (he had previously recieved a devlan mud wash a while ago), and a smaller amount on a medic. the flamer's legs are very muddy, possibly representing him stepping into a big mud filled crater (hence the sour face).
also practiced drybrushing the helm wings on a DA vet, which i quite like.

in the near future i might repaint my IG leman russ to a better standard, as DA vehicles don't really get much attention in weathering and interest.
but for now, i'm going to assemble my DA dudes...

Happy new year! another update, i have completed all my tactical marines yay!
i have two spare marines now, i was planning on using the last two legs for special weapon alternatives, but in the end i decided not to. a previous meltagun model was stripped of his weapon and instead was replaced with a bolter and a nifty conversion using a meltabomb from the Devastator frame, and a chainsword arm.

to replace the missing special weapon marine i made a plasma gun marine, 'cos i like em inni

Hey when are we going to see some updates? Looking forward to see your DA painted.

i'm just finishing off my RW bikes, expect photos tomorrow around this time, then i can wait until the airbrush arrives. in the mean time i'll try and order some painting kit. (all my painting has been done with some random art brush which is HUGE!) i'll get some pics up of painting practice, though its not a pretty sight ;-)

its amazing! the amount of extras for DA vehicles are amazing. lots of purity seals, scrolls, DA logos so you don't even need FW doors, and heavy weps as well so you can do some converting with assault cannons and typhoon missiles. 2 neat power swords in there aswell.

Yes I have to agree with you on that. When the current codex came out and the models that's what really got me back into the gaming and modeling. Also not all models will look the same with all the extra bits you get.

Get the Badab war book 2 as it has stats for the Achillies tank DA's can take it.

£60 for an achillies? i'd rather spend the money on a normal LR and a predator or something...

has been incredibly busy with school work, and so has not met the deadline for getting my bikes done , but today i went shopping for artwork and decided to buy some modelling stuff aswell! And because GDO is so impatient i decided to post some pics of what i got. i bought both Luftwaffe green and yellow olive and will do some tests, along with a 5/0 and 0 size sable brush. on the right is the brush (big shocker) which i have been using for ALL painting (yes, including the eyes). you don't know how difficult it was...

i had just enough time last night to do a messy paint practice. the yellow olive paint is basically like catachan green, so i'm not going to use it for my DA. the luftwaffe green on the other hand is great!

below i did two test models with the Luftwaffe green, the guy on the left is with a camo green highlight and the guy on the right has a snot green highlight, look carefully! so what do you guys think, which highlight colour should i use for the army? (the trigger arm is the best place to see a difference in the photo)

also i practiced my free hand skills with a quick wing, i got it wrong but you get the message how the wing should be like

I think definitely the camo green. It gives you the highlight without brightening the model too much. Great work all round btw.

Thanks Lenny, i've already started on turning the camo green guy into a full test model, you'll see some progress snaps either monday night or tuesday.

I love those brushes i bought! they gave me so much control with fine detail painting. here is how much i have done on the model with camo green. i really like the effect. i tried to outline the red with chaos black, but tbh i don't really like it that much. i like the nice shade of armour colour, which is basically just a devlan mud wash over the vallejo paint.
the red still needs some more layers and then i can freehand the numerals and stuff on.
anyway, time for some WIP pics, what do you think?

Dark6spectre I am glad you found a shade of green you where looking for. Also your models are looking awsome keep up the great work and looking forward for your other models. Btw have you used your airbrush for priming and basing yet?

used? my dad still hasn't got round to ordering it yet! i'm still using the 'ol brush for it. glad you like the model, i'm worried the camo green is a bit too bright, but meh.

heres a photo of what spent me 3 hours to do, when i should have been revising and finishing art coursework. what do you think? i took a shot when i had it done, and then i added a wash of devlan mud over to show how it would look like on a finished model.

guys another issue, do you think i should create a new progress blog for this, as it seems to start off slow (and with poor pics) and only really gets underway now?

thanks dude! yeah, you just need to be in the zone, relaxed, put some music on (NO SLIPKNOT: you cannot paint while you are headbanging.) and just concentrate on what you are doing. oh yeah and get the smallest brush you can find. i use a 5/0. and water down your paints a fair bit so you don't build up so many layers from corrections.

another question (whytf am i asking so many questions), do you think i should do the whole wing thing on all the models, or the type of wings shown on the DA codex cover, they look far more sinister and pointy than my BA looking wings. (it will save about 2 hours painting time aswell!)
