I didn't read the thread all the way through because I am tired after working all day, so I will just throw in my 2 cents and hope it isn't redundant information.

I play foot IG for fun and what I have found is that it gets demolished by fast or outflanking assault armies. Once a few units hit your lines with a multi charge (and they will almost always get a multi charge due to the shear amount of models you have on the board) the entire army folds.

However, if winning consistently is not your primary concern, then it can be a very fun army.

You can pack in OBSCENE firepower. If you go first and the other guy deploys on the board, say good night.

However, like I said, as soon as some tough stuff gets in your lines, you are boned.

So IMO, it is a fun army to take out once in a while for a change of pace, but really not competitive. The best build I have seen is just maxing out platoons and taking as many blobs with commissar support as possible as this gives you the most ablative wounds and scoring units.

Good luck with it.

Hey Reecius, I've enjoyed reading your batreps from april and I don't usually indulge in text-only ones as they're sometimes confusing.

For gearhead's benefit:

Glad to see you making the foot-guard shine, and I've never considered putting 3 demos in the same SWS, seems overpowered but then in a 2K+ game so are a lot of the things being thrown at your line.

I'm planning on building towards a similar list as the direction you're going, if you do go footslogging with Al'Rahem please post a batrep, I'd like to see how it works out.

I was also thinking perhaps outflanking with an eversor as well (as long as you have an astropath) could be an even better buff to Al'Rahem's platoon, not all that cheap but guarantees carnage on the flank, what do you think?

Oh, and on the subject of penal legionnaires - I think they are worth their points, as a distraction if nothing else, as they're better in HtH than your normal troops and come with stubborn as standard. I tend to use them aggressively and force my opponent to take them out first, thus saving the rest of my less brave troops from early-game morale checks.

And steelmage, I'd rather they shot at your penal troops than al'rahem's PCS. Try using them more as suicide troops and you'll be less troubled when you lose them, and happier when your opponent targets them

Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

Thanks, I am glad you liked the reports. Yeah, i have a camera but I can't find the stupid USB cord to post pics up.

I agree though, penal legionaries were surprisingly effective. Stubborn and scouts makes them very versatile for reaching out and grabbing objectives.

The Ogryns were also really surprisingly effective although for the points, I think a few units of rough riders would give you more bang for your buck.

The 3 demo charge bomb squad has been amazing every time I have used it. The squad just obliterates something scary when it appears.

The eversor is a great, cheap unit, but I am partial to the callidus for her secondary abilities. I do love the eversor though and use him some times for fun.

The one thing I learned though was that you really need to pack in the firepower to stop fast assault armies from hitting you and multi charging as that is the Achilles heel of the list. It is fun to put that many models on the board though.

I have run the giant Al'Rahem outflanking unit and it works very well against a lot of armies. They just can't handle that much firepower coming in a flank all at once. I will post a bat rep next time I use them.

what's the callidus' secondary abilities again? All my sourcebooks are downloaded PDF's and my normal PC is under my gf's bed just now, so I can't look it up. I know about 'a word in your ear' allowing you to reposition one enemy unit 12", is there anything else?

I reckon that a good way to keep the infantry army alive is a few SWS and/or PCS in chims with meltas, demos etc to neutralise incoming targets at close range, but I suppose it's not very true to the infantry paradigm.

I look forward to your next batrep sir!

The Callidus allows you to move one unit 6" and she pops up anywhere on the table, can shoot a nasty ap2 template weapon (which can be comboed with the PBS for crazy effectiveness) and can assault the turn she appears. This allows her to really interfere with enemy plans.

Yeah, you could certainly use some vehicles, but that gives your opponent something to shoot with all of their anti tank weapons and will most likely die rather quickly.

I'll try and get a report up this weekend, time permitting.

cheers dude. I can just picture the look on someone's face when you hit a squad with 'weaken resolve' then drop *that* template on the table.

I'm planning on having 2-4 chims and a demolisher in an infantry and cavalry based list. Hopefully the leman russ will soak up the AT firepower, but yes it is a bit of a risk. Gotta love having a transport that can pop MEQ transports though

I look forward to your next batrep sir whenever it pops up.
