I was there for Ken's "Going Out of Business" sale. The shop was in fine condition up until the last day.

If a second car happened to hit the place, it did so after he sold it. He told me who'd been clamoring for the property, but I don't remember any more.

Eric

Could have been after. Could have been a different shop, for all I know. A bit unlikely, but given the amount of LGSes we go through around here...

Can't remember who I heard it from, just remember it was up at Gamer Ground before they closed.

A kid having his 2000 point chaos army stolen just before thew new codex came out when the new obliterators came along. The store manager put in a phonecall to GW HQ the next day and a week later a large box turned up with replacement models for the entire army, enough modelling supples and the new codex before it was released signed by various people including Gav Thorpe. They also threw in a chaos lord painted by the eavy metal team. The kid was smiling for a week at least.

My best experiance was at a place in Califonia called Galactic Archives as the owner was having a big sale in all figs in the store he handed me this huge box filled with older figs from the 70's and 80's all fantasy and a mix of sci-fi. I counted 215 fantasy figs at 25 cents a piece and boom had my first Warhammer Fantasy Army an entire Old World Britonian army ready made for $90. Thats 40 hvy mounted knights, 20 lt. mounted archers, 20 hvy spearmen, 40 pike men, 3 cannon, 3 wagons w/ crew and lotsa other stuff. I was so happy that that very next weeked I had painted the whole 2,000 pt force and gotta place in the game that saterday.

Chaos rules you all drool! Blood for the Blood God!
10,000 pts Black Legion
2,000 pts Traitor Catchian Guard (1067th).
8,000 point Sam Hain Eldar.
2,000 pts Squat Biker Force.

It was during my senior year in high school. The seniors at my school traditionally go on a trip to Europe, and this year we went to London (which btw is an amazing city). Our tour group had some free time in a shopping district. Needless to say the girls loved it and I was wandering around staring at the street performers with my other nerdy friend. We were making the circuit one more time when I looked into a little alley and saw a familiar two-headed-eagle. I pealed off from my friend and went to investigate. Turns out there was an official GW store there the whole time. It was just about to close, so it was completely empty besides us. We talked to the staff and they gave me some awesome conversion advice about the chaos titan legion army I'm going to convert at some point in the far future.

My friend got an IG command squad for half what it costs back here in the states, and I got "how to paint Citadel miniatures", which finally convinced me to start painting.

The best part was that my friend walked into the store about 10 seconds after I did and said "the first thing I thought was 'where did you go', then I saw the store and thought 'why didn't you tell me'."

Totally unrelated but still awesome:
Spoiler:
That was the second best part of the trip. The first was when everyone else besides my teacher and I were feeling really tired and sick after dinner (I wish we had wagamomma in the US). We didn't have anything scheduled for that evening so everyone else went back to the hotel.

My teacher and I walked across the tower bridge and down to the Tate Modern gallery. On the way there we stopped in a pub and watched a rugby game. He played rugby back when he lived in the UK, so I got a running commentary the entire time. He even bought me a beer (He was the most awesome teacher I've ever had). We finally got back to the hotel around 11:30 after navigating the mess that was London Public Transit. It's supposed to be really good normally, but for the weekend we were there they had about 4 lines down for repair at the same time.

Hmm.. Probably the best thing that's happened to date to me in a GW store was this big raffle thing they had going on.

Top prize was one of the last boxes of Space Hulk, so I bought two battleforces just to get more tickets

Didn't get Space Hulk of course, but I won a nice little bits box

I'm pretty new so nothing amazing or anything but I took my friend for an intro game to WHFB and he absolutely demolished the redshirt's army in record time.

Sure, the intro battles are set up so the new player can easily win but even my friend's bolt thrower crews were winning close combat's decisively and sixes popped up with scary regularity. The GW dude was stunned.

I'm not going to like introducing my friend to WHFB when he starts beating me, am I?

Sitting in some store in Melbourne all day painting the last bits of my High Elf army to get ready for my first tournament the next day (i had travelled interstate with my buddy to be there).

They didn't pressure me to buy anything, we got a full read of the 5th ed space marine book about 1-2 months before release, and they corrected my worst painting bad habit, which was painting straight out of the pot. Which had the side effect of turning painting from a chore into a joy.

Plus they had some amazing stuff on display, including a huge (oop forgeworld iirc) Abbadon and a bunch of Forgeworld baneblades/ flyers etc.

Since then i have only ever spent about 30mins in another GW store in Sydney because i didn't want to jinx my GW experience. And all the staff we spoke to spoke very highly of my FLGS in Tasmania, Which is rare for mainland folk to speak highly of Tassie stuff.

A week after the Killa Kanz was released. I was in a hurry. I had this 30 minute window to shop nerdstuff and get me something to eat.
Took me 5 minutes to get the attention of one of the staff (he was playing some intro game). I said "I want three boxes of them". He dropped the game, and ran around in the store opening shelves and doing all sorts of stuff. But could only come up with one box. But... he said "Go check at SFBok (the largest FLGS in town). They might have a bunch left.

Usually if a store hasn't what you want in stock, it's a too bad so sad, situationen. BUt in this case he merreily sent me on my way to their biggest conpetitor in town.

And the amount of time he actually spent looking just about everywhere for more kanz. Made me feel good.

The manager at my local GW when I first started was the coolest guy ever. The first time I went in he gave me a free model (granted it was damaged so they couldn't display it, but it was fully painted/based) and a free White Dwarf. It was what got be hooked reading and rereading the Battle of Helms Deep battle report.

He also ran a cool sale (gasp!) where he should off merchandise that got returned with missing pieces or arrived with damaged packaging. Got the metal Balrog for $27. Sadly he was broken into pieces during a move... :( I'll fix him someday though.

Since I usually order my stuff, my best story was the first time I saw an 'evy metal level painter paint a model at the store.

First of all, I want to say that my heart goes out to the people affected by the gaming store closing down after the car(s) ran into it. That's truly a sad, sad thing. (Oh, and the kid who got a free Chaos army from GW to replace the stolen one...now that is awesome by the old definition of the word)

As for the best experience I've ever had, I really can't pin it down to just one thing. I've had a lot of great times at my FLGS. So, let's just go over some of the highlights.

The most significant for me was, despite being one of the lower-end players (not quite as much experience as other players) managing to get a major victory against the person in first place. The way our store does the league play is using the chess system of ranking - players start at 500 points, and gain/lose points based on their victories and losses, depending on the difference in points of who they play. What was really shocking about my victory is that in a full league cycle and a half (I'm sure about 12+ games, though I haven't counted) the guy in first has lost twice - once to me, and once to a Chaos Space Marines player.

Going off of that first one, at the end of the first league cycle I won a coveted award - a $50 gift certificate to the store for most improved score, beating out a guy who plays the coolest Ork army I've ever seen (all of them are basically 2nd edition models, and his Battlewagons are well-made Looted Russes).

But probably the best experience I've ever had at my store: a single mother firefighter in the area was, unfortunately, diagnosed with a form of cancer recently, and the firehouse had sent out flyers and such asking people to donate money to her cause. What did my store decide to do? Host a charity tournament, of course! The tourney itself had a $15 entry fee, but the best part was, any player could spend a dollar to affect his game. It could be used to buy a reroll of the dice (either forcing your opponent to do so, or rerolling your own dice), it could be used to buy an extra 6" of movement, or used to buy off wounds inflicted on a squad. I went in there fully expecting to lose (at the time, didn't have a job, so all I had was about 15 dollars to spend outside of the entry fee) but it was a really great time. Probably the best part was that there were about 6 'benefactors' walking around who would buy a bunch of plastic gold coins to use for dollars (since most people didn't have a wad of 1s) and just donating them to people playing games. It really got heated when the first-place game went on, Chaos Daemons vs. Tau - both players were fully intending to buy their way to victory, and wound up spending about 300 bucks within the first 3 turns of the game. All in all, we raised over $700 for the cause - and got a nice thank-you letter from the firehouse for the donation.

If you had more time, you should have had the store raffle off an epic army, and tickets would be sold, or you get tickets for how much you donated for her cause, etc

I was once playing an intro game with a staff member who seemed really nice and I was having a great time! Until some guy walked in proclaiming he wanted 3 boxes of Killa Kans and the redshirt suddenly dropped our game and spent the next ten minutes running around the store for him. CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

Four things:

-I was playing an AoBR intro game via the Academy orks on an objective match. Just about every one of my orks beyond the Warboss had died, taking only the termies with them. However, my Warboss managed to take out the 8/10 members of the Tactical Squad, the Dreadnought, and brought the Captain down to 1 wound before the game ended as a draw. That was awesome.

-A red shirt at my GW organized an awesome Planetstrike game, 3v3. My team, the Attackers, ran as myself (BA) along with a Ultramarines and BT armies. The opponents were all CSM. Real grudge match there. My allies deployed farther away from me, while the CSM basically deployed next me, with Abaddon the despoiler. Yet I still managed to hold my own throughout the battle. However, the highlight (beyond how much FUN the game was, with the back-and-forth and enjoyment), has to be when two guys arrived late, one Crimson Fists and the other a CSM guy with a Thousand Suns squad and deployed as "reinforcements". My Death Company managed to take out the Thousand Sons reinforcement squads with taking a single wound. It was satisfying knowing what was said in the WD BR could actually happen. While he wasn't happy that I killed his "army" in a single Assault phase, it was still a pretty cool sight.

-At my store (possibly else-where as well), the Sanguinor (The coolest model I've ever seen) is on indefinite back-order. On the day of the Planetstrike game, 1 had come in to the store, and I got it. I left to eat my lunch, came back and found it was stolen. Without a word, the red shirt in charge of the game went behind the counter, took out another Sanguinor he had gotten reserved for himself, and gave it to me, free of charge. That was awesome.

-When i got my first GW models in the AoBR set...best Christmas ever,.

The employees in my GW are awesome folks, really enthusiastic and they know their stuff. Whenever I go there I never feel like they're pushing new merch onto me. I was amazed that there was a GW (relatively) close by.
