What was the best experience you have ever had at a GW or local gaming store?

for me it was a giant collaberation we had a my local gaming store in which we all brought our massive armies and used them all
to create litterally a giant dark heresy game. All together we used 15000 points of IG, 8000 points of space marines, and 5000 points of eldar.
Most fun ever, especially since my character was a 40k version of Two Face.

Well mine would have to be the day I won the cheesiest planet strike army where I got a free planet strike book (ya for tons of mystics). I can't remember any other time I got free stuff.

Probably when I still had my beastguard, and I showed up unknowingly with only like...600 points, some autocannon HW teams, 40 guardsmen or so, and a Leman Russ Executioner.

We had a MASSIVE game over 3 tables, celebrating the launch of the Tyranids. All had special conditions and such. When we were done, we moved over to the next table regularly. It was really awesome, except the guy me and this other IG player had was a complete dick. He wouldn't tell me what his warriors were equipped with (I asked if they were deathspitters, and he just said "No") I mean, what a dick.

It was still really cool.

Having my first Apoc game with my Reaver. It was the Reaver, a Warhound, a Shadowsword and a Baneblade with about 1000 points of other stuff, versus the Axis of Evil (2 Failbaddons, Ghaszkull, Nightbringer and Avatar), 2 Stompas and about 5000 points of other stuff.

I've never seen so many kids scream before when the Reaver's Vortex Missile instantly wiped out the Axis of Evil on Turn One!!!

Buying my first box of dwarves back in 2004. I was11 or 12 and had no idea what i was doing. i grabbed some rondom guys and started to the counter when the manager (who i now know is my science teacher's husband) stopped me and showed me i had a bunch of not good started stuff for the army.

Also the time i first ever saw dark eldar models irl. It was about 4 months ago and it was in a pitched battle against my brother's tau. one of the coolest games of 40k i think i've ever seen

Armies:

Last wednesday I was at the Chicago bunker and even though I didn't buy anything, I tried but everything I wanted was out of stock, they were very nice and gave me tips on how to improve the look of my daemons.

The greater good needs some moo.

Two occasions when the hobby was at its best for me was:-

Best experience as a "gamer in local store" would be..

Using the new marine list for the first time vs a grey area eldar list of my mate. I took a Librarian that killed an AVATAR (Now called the cigarette-ATAR) in one fell swoop. Hit it on a 6, Wounded it on a 6, I took a 3d6 LD test and passed which lead the thing to fail its invun save.. Beautiful.

Sad that I'm sounding like an uber geek. But to see my mates face was a picture.

Best experience as a "painter in local store" would be..

Painting up an "ace back them" but a "dodgey conversion now" Logan Grimnar. All it was only a Longfang metal head on a terminator body with a khorne axe. But completing the first conversion with a finished paint job when at 12 years old was awesome..

Cool thread buddy

Best gaming experience(s):
-My all goblin army against another O&G army. Animosity and Fanatics on both sides=fun(ny) as hell.
-Watching the Nightbringer get run over by a Rhino via a failed Death of Glory in a 800 point game.

Best painting experience:
-Winning the most gruesome model competition on Halloween. I modeled/painted up a VC Vargulf that had just finished shreading a High Elf Archer.

Walking into a store and finding out they are having a huge sale.

This happened to me twice. One store was going out of business and had everything 60% off, and the other store had 40% off during the week leading up to last Christmas.

Probaly needless to say these were local game stores and not GW stores.

I guess this counts...
The best thing I have ever seen go down at our FLGS is where this kid had his army stolen and the manager just hands him a BT army box on the way out.
That was cool.

Myrtle Creek, OR

Knew nothing about Warhammer when I took a vacation to Nottingham in 2000.
Walked into a local shop thinking they had RPG stuff. Picked up one of the 40k assassin models for RPGing and went to check out.
The guy behind the register asked if I played their games. I said no and then he offered to demo.

I got to play Space Marines versus the Dark Eldar on a little 2 x 2 or so table.
Game seemed interesting. Guy said they had a sale on starters: BattleFleet Gothic and 40k (3rd Edition).
I had a good amount of holiday cash so I picked them up. He also gave me some free copies of White Dwarf.
One of 'em had a metal Necron warrior attached.

About a week later I came back to the store to see if they had any more of those robots.
I basically bought every Necron blister they had. The manager asked if I needed anything else.
Told him I didn't have the rules for using them. He goes in the back and digs out that copy of White Dwarf PLUS every copy of WD
that has a Necron warrior blister stapled to the front. Walked out with probably 10-20 extra warriors during that deal (the WDs and necron warrior blisters were given to me FREE).

My tie for that was the in-store lottery at GW Potomac Mills around 2002. I won the just released Necron boxed army worth over 200 bucks that day.
Really cool times with the Necrons

Getting a free gaming table from a local store which was changing location.
They don't have the space for wargames at the new spot so they gave the tables away, I managed to get one. hehehehe

I was thinking about making a ruined imperial shrine (destroyed by Necrons) and also add some necron obelisks and stuff like that (maybe even the pyramid as you suggested) but for the time being I'm busy painting about 70 marines (not counting tanks, dreads etc..)

My best experience was my first day there, its like a new world opening to me.Everyone was being extremely nice and kind to me and I got my first marine(free stuff which now kept on a throne of mine(miniature throne))
I decided to start 40k because of this model and the staff who gave it to me(BTW he is not working there anymore but we are really good friends)

Waaaaay, back when the Springfield Mall (VA) store had just opened, I was a regular there. Also worked part-time upstairs in the Spencer's Gifts store. Anyways, I got to know a lot of the young ladies that hung out at the mall from my job, so one day when I'm in the GW store playing, about a half-dozen of them are walking past and see me in there and come crowding in to see what I'm doing. Game came to a screeching halt of course..........

My best experience was when my local GW was having a raffle. Some guy named Oliver was drawn out over ten times during the course of the six prizes. Poor lucky Oliver, he wasn't there and so wasn't the winner of anything. After the third time he was drawn, we all groaned when he was called.
