Ok so I thought I would upload some WIPs a bit earlier than expected

First up is the marine I am starting for Tony_Nids_10, wanted to see how much movement I could get without resorting to an assault marine's legs and figured that by giving him some uneven terrain and having him balance on it while aiming I might get the movement I wanted.



He need shortening at the waist and the left arm may get tucked closer to the torso, and of course the GS work on the gun arm is only a third done but you get the idea



Next is the marine I am building for Gitsplitta..and he needs a bit of explanation.
I've been a real fan of Git's two blogs since he started them and his "Doom Eagle Odyssey" blog has given me much hope that I may eventually have a son interested in the hobby (or failing that perhaps my daughter will get into it, she already helps daddy paint by tipping my paint jars on the desk and finger painting the walls..why blazing orange? why?) Anyhoo I have been tempted to build my version of a mantis warrior for a while and send it to splitta but this project has given me the perfect excuse to send my regards without stepping on his toes by hijacking his chapter!

So without further waffling I present to you

No, he is waving on his two young charges, brave young warriors who have been chosen to join the ranks of the Sabre Legion and fight for the rest of their lives in the unending wars of the Imperium...



I built a decorative base for the three figures but the all pop out as you can see....



I probably should have waited till I had a paint job on the young warriors that showed them off better but hey it's late and I have been working on them all day I want to get some feedback

The marine in the first picture looks like hes hanging off the rock at a wierd angle... i think he might need a bit more work on the stance.
The rest of the model looks great though and i like the other guy and his young freinds lol

Thanks to whalemusic, I should be able to paint up a couple (2) Get of Freki marines, and I have one Omega Marine at the moment to paint..

For tony's I think the neck is a bit high, looks just a tad off. Very nice gs'ing, your leagues ahead of my ability to use the stuff.
Gits looks Very cool, I love the idea of the "cubs" (pups are dogs IA). They will make very cool scouts! Whats a Native Amarican word for "thing 1" and "thing 2"?

And just to let everyone know, I suck at coming up with names. So if you really want I can follow my naming convention, but I doubt "Brother 3-5-3" will strike fear into anyone thats not an accountant.

lmao, if you come up with a name for your guy I'll write a little story about him, if not then I'll name him and write a story about him, lol. I don't particularly want a plasma pistol, I just found this cool death company bit that I forgot I had so I put it on your guy. It has one of those blood vials on it and I've always loved the look of the plasma weapons.

How about Brother Evrard (strong as a wild boar in Germanic)? Googling "germanic names" was easier then I thought, lol.
I'll call Blackhands Brother Ermanno (means man in the army) assuming he wants a name for him.

OK.. by the weekend, I should have some Get of Freki marines done, and 2 Omega Marines.. the Omegas will be bolter armed, and stock pose, as they are already built..

The Get have will be Grey Hunter armed, pistols, bolters, and molded on combat blades.. and I will have one "long fang" guy with a missile launcher as well. I can either do my standard basing or leave them blank.. depends on the swap-mate.

I would prefer to swap the Missile Launcher marine for one with something Assault.. ideally a combi-melta.. (I can hope) or an Assault Marine with jump pack..

Yes, they need to be painted, its kinda the point.
Self promotion is ok here, as long as it is relevent to swaping little plastic dudes.

Ah, I see. Is there a Minimum Painting Standard, then?

Well, not really, but you should be trying to showcase your marines as best you can, so that the people you trade with feel that their efforts were reflected in what they got from the other person. If I spent and hour modeling and 3-4 painting so that you were proud to field/display it and got a Marine with glue all over and a single coat of Ultramarine Blue, I would be an unhappy ardavark. And If someone tells me that this happend to them, rather then getting their name after yours on the master list, its getting a big ol DO NOT TRADE WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after it.

Oh, I'll try my hardest, and I'm a pretty handy Modeller. But Painting just isn't my Forte. Maybe this sort of thing isn't for me.

Hey Popsicle, I find myself in the same boat TBH, I love the modelling and converting but I need a lot of work on my painting!

Try to see the GMS as a way to stretch your painting skills, I personally am treating it like I am doing a commision peice for a customer as this is something I hope to do in the furture and its good to get feedback from dakkites and the people who are receiving the models.

That said, the usual advice of multiple thin coats, washes and a simple edge highlight really does do the trick and idoesn't require the skills of a migsula or Sons of Orar

And I agree whole-heartedly with blackhand... it's not how many marines I can trade, it's how far I can push my own skills to give the other person something that is truly unique & an example of my best work, however good that is... at least it's my best effort.

I am admitidly taking on ALOT of trades, but as its kinda my blog I felt I needed to set an example. Trust me when I say they will be my best work and I will not rush them. This project will probally make my actual army progress slower then normal, which is pretty slow anyways, but my armies will just have to chill where they are now untill I've taken care of at least the obligations I have now. I have found that everyone is very patient, even allowing for personal projects and whatnot, probally because they are in the same boat. Sorry if we come off as abrupt and rude but I think you will find these feelings echoed by all involved.
Also the distance wouldn't be an issue if you didn't want it to be, BLACKHAND has several people lined up and hes in NZ. All about the effort man.

To Echo WM, though it is a trade I think of it as a gift. So I want to do the best of my ability. I think of myself as a decent painter, but I'm always working on getting better, these blogs have helped out tremendously. This GMS blog helps motivate me to do better. I like the personal challenge.

here are the two space marine chapters i have. one which is a P&M thread based off knights, the other is the chapter i am painting up for my gf. they are both nameless at the moment, thou i think for my yellow chapter i may be naming them sons of Luther, on the basis that they are a DA chapter which wish to redeem the memory of luther but im unsure if that would cause too many fluff probs with people so dont have a name yet haha.
