For one, the Emperor is (allegedly) keeping up a psychic barrier that keeps the forces of Chaos from simply pouring into our universe at will. So if he goes, the end of days is more or less upon the Imperium.

This was actually something that was added to the fluff in 5ed to make the universe even more GRIMDARK. I'd never heard this before the 5ed rulebook came out and it kind of annoyed me.

I would like to see him become a warp deity (since billions believe he's a god already). then GW could sell a bunch of minis when they release Codex: Angels

OMG it really looks like that doesn't it?

Ok well I want to point out that Roboute and his marines loose!!! They all die!!! Horribly!!!

I wouldn't call myself a Ultramarine lover but I would have to disagree. Imo If anything they would be one of the only SM chapters to most likely prosper after the emperors death if everything went to hell seeing as their home world is one of the closest matches to old terra and overall their sector of space is under control compared to most chapters home sectors of space.

With that said I believe if the emperor dies he will be reborn as the star child and return to lead the imperium of man in reclaiming the stars for humanity but ultimately some type of evil be it chaos or something else will ruin everything again. They say history repeats itself so why is the 40k universe any different?

Hi Happygrunt! I disagree that the Emperor's death would cripple the ecclesiarchy. It would make the ecclesiarchy stronger, much in the way that modern religions have thrived and grown immensely since the deaths of their originators. With all of the Emperor's Powers intact, the loss of his body is not only not a problem, it's convenient! Remember, the eccesiarchy actually teaches the divinity of the Emperor, which, I understand, the Primarchs themselves did not practice in His day. The physical death of the Emperor would pave the way to new ascension myths and the ecclesiarchy would become unstoppable for millenia to come.

Slaanesh is so pretty. I love my Slaanesh, so happy...

Sorry, what was I talking about?

By having the Emperor's powers last beyond His physical death, you have removed the one Achilles' Heel of the Imperium. As things stand now, His death will be the end of humanity as we know it. As He descends deeper into madness due to His tormented existence, the Imperium staggers and fails...when He dies, Hope dies...

So, while it's interesting divorcing the Emperor's powers from the man-god himself, it takes all the drama out of it. I think so, anyway....

MArine would take control the bt's woudl peeter out without a base of support and I garentee that ultrimar woudl become th enew hub of the largest human empire or everything would stay the same or and finally the star child theory is true and he would come back.

Chaos always wins!

If the necrons kill off all life in the galaxy then there is no way for chaos to win as they'd be stuck in the warp with no way out. With no more souls to enter the warp the whole warp would then stagnate as the chaos powers fed off themselves and slowly diminished until there was nothing left. Then perhaps everything starts over again from the very beginning of time.

I can't imagine anything would change.

I understand the thread opened with the caveat that all men/beings everywhere would instantly know, which is an important "hey now!" point to make before starting a thread like this, because in all likelihood there would be doubters, deniers, and I'd bet a very large coverup all maintaining the status quo. If the Emporer is dead but nothing changes with the chaos barrier, why would anyone actually believe he's dead? What is there to gain? And the fact that every being everywhere instantly knew he was dead? That seems like an incredible event. Surely it must be a test?

If the Emperor died, for real, and everyone was aware, even beyond the deniers, doubters, and cover-ups and it was all accepted, the Imperium would go on following the Emporers's spirit, and while I can imagine where this thread could go, I don't have to imagine because it's already been written, and I enjoyed it the first time around when Frank Herbert explored the same concept in the Dune series. The inquisition would still go after what they go after, and Space Maries would still shout "for the Emporer," and the entire vast Imperium could very easily go on as they have been.

This thread supposes the Emperor dies and nothing changes with Chaos? What matters then? The only change of note is that 300ish Adeptus Custodes are out of work, and that's about it. He's been as-good-as-dead for 11,000 some years aside from blocking Chaos, he passes and nothing changes and it just exposes the fact that the Emporer is a leader in name only at this time, and it's the bureaucrats that run the show, who have no reason to change the status quo whatsoever, especially considering the "we do things this way because it's how we do things and always have" mentality that dominates the Imperium thought process for most of the fluff aside from the actions of the Emperor himself.

Now toss in the Star Child stuff or remove the ridiculous "and nothing will change with the Chaos barrier" and things can get interesting.

for real that is awesome

but i think they would just cover up that the emperor has passed and if the astronomicon does fade the inqustion would just play it off like and do a cover up and then from there what happens what happens they would purge the palace before there was a single chance of rumors to spread and just hope that he still may protect

Couldn't the hive fleet absorb the necrons shells? They are metal and it does say in the codex that a hive fleet will take everything down to the bare rock even the atmosphere.

I thought if their core was damaged they don't phase. If that is so then I'm sure the hive mind would adapt to that fact quickly. If not oh well that's still one less metal skeleton to fight.

The core simply allows them to repair on the spot. if that is damaged(power weapons, AP1-2 weapons, Str8+) the necron is phased to conduct repairs back at the tomb.
