There's not a 'I've only played 8th' option.

Cynical people might say that's because the question in the first post goes on to ask 'in comparison to 7th edition' but, to be fair, that's not clear in the thread title.

awfull, just awfull. they have turned a half decent 'beer and penauts (or pretzels)' game and turned into a money grabbing game for little children.
Regimentts are now bigger, so 30/40 models in a regiment? ok how many models in a box? 10? ok I need 3 boxes please! What?!?! £45!!!
ok that new regiment you just put on the table....um yeah....take it off please, i just destroyed it with my ultra stick of lightening doom spell while standing in the arcance circle of kick the bejeezus out ot the enemy while standing here terrain piece, oh and you get no saves either.
so spent £45 putting a regiment on the table, only to take it off again.
WASTE . OF . MONEY Games workshop are blatently using the game as a short term money grabbing machine, not to mention the frequency they redo the rules and books so you ahve to re-adjust your army and buy new models
i'll stick with the models I already have and the rules i already have thank you

You clearly NEVER faced, or even heard rumor, of Daemons in 7th.
Daemons were sooo broken it wasn't funny.
There is a reason 7th was called Daemonhammer, because you couldn't do anything against them.

Never played 8th, had a look at a download of the rules and liked most of what i read but didnt want to spend £50 on yet another version of the rules (been playing since 2nd ed) plus 2-£300 on army books plus arcana etc so about £500 just on books that i might have used a couple of times per year.
For me the big step forward was 6th edition-best rule set they had done at the time spoiled to a large extent as soon as armybooks started to come out (lower quality writers putting in lots of special rules that break the solid game mechanicks),7th was not a huge change (so it would have been better to stay with 6th) but several army books got worse again.
For anyone not wanting to pay out for 8th i would suggest you use the horde rule and updates for monstrous infantry and try playing that on the second round of combat everyone fights-this i think will give you more of a combat game.
