a Level 1 wizard would need a minimum of 3 dice.
Level 4 will need 3 minimum. average roll is 10 on 3d6 so will have a slightly less then 50% chance of a succesfull cast. realisticly 4 will be more certain.
a Level 1 will need 4 dice to have a 50/50 chance.
the other problem with casting these high level spells is they will drain your power pool quickly. on average you will have 7 Power dice against 3-4 Dispell dice. if you need 4+ dice to get this powerful spell off you could leave yourself vulnerable with only 3 or so dice to use to dispell your opponents RiP spells or cast other support spells.
and if you roll low say 3-4 dice you won't want to cast your high level spells at all.

Honestly? Just take a few level 1's and toss 6 dice at it hoping for IF.
I think that double 6's should have been miscast always, but the IF thing should only apply if you actually got enough to get the spell off. If you roll 2 6's and 4 1's, you won't get high enough for some of the more powerful spells. If you score high enough to cast AND there's two 6's, then you get IF and can't be dispelled.
That would remove the "bomb" aspect of the lower-level wizards.

yeah thats what I mean. Someone did this to me the other day with a warriors of chaos army and just blasted me with purple sun. I honestly believe he didnt care whether his wizard lived or died. It was just "heres all my power dice at this one spell - die."

Playing 8th feels like work. Most of the "playing" time is spent sorting through piles of dice (20-30 on the average roll) and picking out casualties. Don't see why people are all excited about it.

I was worried I was really going to dislike 8th, things like the random movement, intiative based combat and so on seemed to make no sense in the rumour build up.
However now with a few battles of 8th under my belt, I have to say, this to me is the best edition of Fantasy in a long time, probably ever (never played 1st or 2nd so can't say with certainty,) and I'm suddenly much more eager to collect and paint Fantasy races again.

It seems like improvements conceptually, from what I've heard, but some of the new restrictions force me to play some units in a different way than I want... and I still have yet to play a game...
So I don't really have an opinion on them yet.

The new rules are great, if you play against someone who actually plays. I played against my dad and he sucks.
but if i'm honest it's all a massive ploy to get more money. the horde rule is quite obviously trying to make you make your units better simply by having bigger units. and I know there's a depression on but the don't need to carry on increasing their prices

I'm extremely impressed with the results of the survey, normally a rulechange/new version to anything causes major hatred (at first).
The big positive skew to the results means GW did a good job this time.
PS. I don't play fantasy so don't have any knowledge of the system

I only saw people play 7th Fantasy and never played myself. But when 8th came out I tried the Island of Blood demo at a GW with a guy who helped me with the rules and I must say it was pretty injoyable. Im considering starting a Fantasy army (just gotta get done with my CSM first though)

I am not interested in WHFB but I heard that those rules are crazy. In my city I have yet to see a game of WHFB with the new rules.... from what the store keepers say (of different stores by the way) , is that WHFB has a terrible selling fall... people seems to play more and more 40k.

Here's just the opposite, we had quite a sizeable core of 40K players and several of them are moving to WHFB and FoW.
There used to be monthly 40K tourneys and tri-monthly WHFB, now it's monthly WHFB (plus a weekly league) and bi-monthly 40K (with dwindling assistance).
8th ed. fixed many of the things several people (inc. myself) felt "wrong" about WHFB, like so many units never hitting back when they were charged effectively. OTOH, there are several broken rules and armies, but it's still pretty balanced for GW standards.

Years and years and years ago I started with WHF, but quickly switched to 40k. After that I never looked back.
I might check out the rules now, see how much has changed. I think the last game of WHF I played was 4th edition, maybe 5th.

I like the way the game plays, but I do have two complaints.
1) Charges are too random. The idea that a dwarf even once in a while has the ability to charge fifteen inches is just silly, as is the idea that a unit of fast cavalry may only charge ten inches. I think charging should be a bit more predictable, especially for some of the more disciplined troops found in WHFB.
2) I am also of the opinion that black powder infantry weapons are under powered.
Other than that, Its a good system.

I think the new way for army organization isn't excellent, but does make it more realistic IE a 768 point dwarf high king is not going to lead a minimum force. It does however make points a little complicated to work with, but it does certainly keep army's in check. I'm liking the rest of the rules though.

I actually stopped playing because of the release of the 8th ed. rules. My main complaint lies with the way the movement phase was butchered. I dislike random charge length, the horde rules, the way cavalry were nerfed, that monsters can't really deny ranks... a great deal of things.
However, I do like Storm of Magic and the new magic rules. It has had me considering playing again...But for the most part, I'm disenchanted. Plus no-one plays fantasy where I live.

Finally grunts can actually do something! Magic is a bit OP but combat still decides who wins the game. High elves are OPed too, the git who thought of improving ASF deserves something cruel to happen to him...

I prefer 7th.
I don't like being forced to buy more models in order not to be behind the 8ball.
Magic phase is OP.
It feels like it's tending towards D&D 4.yawn.
The new rulebook itself is nice though.

8th is nice, but I really don't care for the percentage stuff when building lists. It really dictates what cool stuff I can't and can have (and I suppose that's the point,) but I really make a :/ face when I'm told I can't have my shiny new stuff until I take a bunch more of less cool stuff.
Again, I get that it's a balance thing, but I like the neat stuff and get bored painting big ol'd Skaven Clanrat blobs.
