There's one in the village, where are the others?

The only one which I know the location of for sure was in Forest Hills. Searching around it seems like GW has since closed down all except for the one in the village that you mentioned.

Now when you say they outdid themselves, do you mean in comparison to last year, or was it actually a really good convention?

It really was a good time. There was tons of stuff I didn't get to, and I'm looking forward to next year.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

There were 4 a couple of years back (Villiage, Upper West Side, upper East Side, Forest Hiulls) but now only the village is left.

It was actually really great- fantastic, even! Last year wasn't much to compare to, but imho this one had everything. The only bummer was the golden demon entries were on another floor from the huge convention area (due to space? I don't know) so it was hard to go see them. But it looks like they really responded to criticism from last year and went all out this time. Awesome

GW was already talking about plans for Chicago at the wind down party on Saturday night. Everyone was very happy with this years event.

I'm already thinking about what I want to set up next year. This year was a good warmup for it. Our whole club is psyched to start working on it, and we threw out crazy ideas all the way home this year.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I'd agree - this year's was great.

My two cents about the venue switch; 'cause GW will at least listen to you...flying somewhere is a no-go even with this year's improvement. I guess they figure they'll have more attendees in Chicago. For myself, at least two of my son's friends want to come (which also means they have an accompanying paying parent). With the relocation - at least six of us are now no-shows.

Games Day was awesome. I walked away with a free new in box, Space Hulk.

Sadly, because of the move to Chicago I have no intentions on attending. I hope they alternate between cities so I can go to Games Day 2012.

Sadly I did not find Games Day that great - it was at best "ok".

First, it was one day. Who has one day conventions anymore? You need at least 2 days to be able to interact with people without feeling rushed, or to play games without half your day disappearing. The clubs really excelled at having interesting tables but you couldn't linger due to lack of time.

Second, (and I know this is a GW thing) they did not make any announcements (that I could hear) about future models, codex's, products or ANYTHING. I really wish they would take a page from Blizzard regarding this and make interesting announcements. Heck GW doesn't even use White Dwarf to get people excited about future stuff very well... teasers are great for business!

Third, every convention I have ever attended had some sort of discount or deal or "not yet released" item. The only discount we got was 50% off a stompa which you have to shove people to get. The most negative aspect of this was that they allowed people to buy FOUR of the stompas rather than one per person so those who wanted them for personal use vs. to sell got screwed. Personally I would have done "spend $100 here and get a $20 gift card to spend at your local GW" or something along those lines.

On a positive note I thought the signage was very clear and good and the activities presented by GW were well run. Many of the models were so-so throughout the convention but the terrain was AMAZING.

All in all it was worth an hour drive and the $25 entrance fee but I wouldn't travel far to go to the next one.

In Games Day events up until a few years ago there were product seminars about upcoming releases. It's only a relatively recent phenomena that GW no longer does previews and preview seminars at Games Days.

I've been to all 17 US Games Day events held in Maryland and this one was pretty good even with all the upheaval and uncertainty GW has heaped on their staff and customers the past couple years. The lack of previews does reduce the feeling of commitment and "intimacy" between GW and its fans, but overall the show was exciting and well run. Certainly a lot better than last year and a lot closer to the events of a few years ago.

Until now GW has had an HQ in Maryland since they started in the US and the first US Games Day was here. I am most saddened to lose both now. I have met many terrific people at the HQ and had opportunities to participate in things I never would have without the HQ. For example, I painted the Dark Angel Drop Pods this year for the Dark Angels vs. Tyranids display done by John Shaffer. All of that is gone now and I will miss having John and all the other great HQ staff around here as well as the chance to meet new ones. Until recently store managers were all trained here in Maryland too and it was fun meeting many of them during their training and even helping with things like management CDC (community development classes). I made a lot of new friends by being at the Battle Bunker adjoining the HQ too.

We may travel to Chicago next year if the timing is right, though I won't take all the models to compete with and display like I did this year. I had to carry a lot of stuff around in order to display my army for Armies On Parade and combined with my Golden Demon entries it was quite a lot. Driving to Baltimore from less than 1 hour away with all that was not too difficult, but if we fly to Chicago next year I'm traveling light and leaving all that at home.

Hearing that GD will be moving to Chicago for 2011 caused me to wonder if that means the 2012 GD will be here in California?

I was fortunate enough to attend and volunteer at 3 of the LA Gamesdays here in California and was sorely disappointed when
GW pulled the show.

The reason given by GW was that they wanted to focus on opening more stores here and that has happened...I am thinking that
now with what I would suppose would be increased traffic to the new stores and the already established stores, would it make sense
for them to bring the big show back out West?? The previous GD's were hosted here while other GD's were being held in Baltimore,
Atlanta and Chicago...focusing on a single show per year and moving it to different areas may be part of their overall marketing strategy...

Just wondering out loud....

It's nice to have it in Chicago but I'd much rather have it go on tour all over North America like a rock band.
