Also changing geography means recruiting new clubs to provide the content...a lot of gamesday is created by local clubs. If you move geography (mid-atlantic to mid-west) that's all gone.

Hence they might even move to an 'attend' model rather than 'hold' model at Gencon, Historicon, etc...

While you make a good point. Games Day's of long ago were hosted solely by GW. All of the tables were provided by them and most had miniatures provided for you as well. I'm willing to bet that GW will move back to this, we've already seen the first step in The Road to Games Day blog on their site. If this is not the case I'm sure there will be plenty of local clubs and independent retailers that will jump at the chance to participate no mater where they chose.

I dunno. I'm more than a little skeptical that GW is willing to go back to the "do it all" model given the trend there in the past few years. It's not exactly a company looking to take on costs.

But if you're right, then Memphis will almost certainly be the location, because I can't imagine they'd spend the coin to bus and house their labor (HQ employees) to some other location around the country.

And let's be real about this -- Memphis may not be a garden spot, but Baltimore is hardly Paris. The show was there for umpteen years because that's where HQ and their help was. Not because of the city's cosmopolitan lifestyle and low murder rate.

The vast majority of help at GDs is sales staff from around the country anyway. Location means very little as far as lodging costs go.

Really? I think GenCon has been in Indianapolis for something like a decade, then Wisconsin for decades before that...

My guess is GamesDayw ill go to wherever is convenient for GW... If they're moving operations to Memphis, I'd guess it will go there.

Does Baltimore do anything for Games Day? Indy does an impressive job making GenCon attendees feel welcome... The whole neighborhood around the convention center has GenCon themed signage and such going on. I never even heard of GamesDay before getting into 40k, despite being a Maryland native.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

They're very different animals, Games Day is a fraction the size of Gencon. I was in Baltimore for Otacon and that takes up the whole center and you see cosplayers for blocks, I'd bet the Dental Hygenists convention is bigger than Games Day.

Memphis is a HELLHOLE. The only reason they got HQ is how cheap everything is. There is absolutely no support businesses around the Memphis convention center. Last time I attended an event there I walked 3 blocks to go to Subway and they were out of fething BREAD!?

No way it'll be Memphis.

Thirded. Downtown Memphis has a serious homeless problem, and the last event I went to there (the last Hillbilly Invitational) had problems because of the lack of services around the area. Hell, the only liquor store I could find had to serve you through a metal grate!

My guess is either Chicago, Altanta or LA, seeing as the previous ones have been there.

And I believe there are 10 GW stores in Maryland alone. Also, it's not just lodging costs...it's the cost of transporting everyone and everything for the show.

It may end up in a location other than Memphis. However, Memphis is clearly the lowest cost option, and we're talking about a company that's been in cost cutting mode for a while now. I guess I'm just saying people should be prepared to be disappointed.

When all is said and done, does it really matter where it is so long as GW keeps treating every single GW outside of Europe like a waste of time?

I hadn't gone to a GD in like 8 years because they used the same presentation from the previous years GD in Baltimore and treated a line that was already out for 6+ months as something brand new and worthy of covering (was dwarfs at the time).

And I live minutes from the convention center. I was trying to trick myself into going this year simply because of the threat that they may not be here any more, because DE are right around the corner, and because I want to get back into the hobby.

But thankfully they stopped taking ticket orders. If I'm downtown I may swing by in time to catch the 40k seminar at closing. But I have doubts.

Until they start making Games Days worth going to I don't see why bother even going. Especially if you're from Baltimore and can still use the bunker which is packed every day from open to close.

My guess would be either California or Texas because GW seems to have an obsessive love affair with those states.

I am skeptical of anywhere that is not the mid Atlantic/northeast. GD is not a flying to event (maybe this year will change that ?). But since it's not a fly toevent, that is why ATL and LA were cancelled -too few attendees. And Baltimore was supposedly better attended than CHicago. So why move it to place that less attendees?

If it's the only one in the country people will travel to it, no doubt. Much like everyone has mentioned, its always been in Baltimore because that's where the HQ was. Now that its moved, Games Day will too, just probably not to Memphis. Where ever it gets located it will be an area that can support it with a proper attendance.

Games Day Las Vegas would be a joke. People might make it to Vegas, but probably would get distracted by other things on the way to the event.

I've attended at least 1 RTT in Vegas, and had a great time with it.

All else being equal, I'd rather attend a Games Day in Vegas than Baltimore - closer and more to do before/after. Plus, SOs won't be as bored there.

It can't just be picked based on a lot of the criteria people are throwing out. GW needs to have some prescence in the area, and will need to ship in everything they need to run it.

They also need a good population base. It's not an event for veterans only, and you won't see beginners taking a plane to it. Vegas wouldn't work. I doubt Memphis would either, without much of a player base. GW has historically been much weaker in the south.

If it moves at all, I'd bet on Chicago. But hoping it doesn't move off the East Coast.

Like the gamesday in the UK, where they didn't confirm the release of Space Hulk and instead made the announcement on the final day 'Take a look at your emails tomorrow folks!!1!one!!1'...

They could even 'reactivate' the Kommando or Outrider program to get volunteer staff. It would probably be cheaper in the long run as we paid our own travel costs and they only covered lodging and a small meal allowance. Sure, we got swag for working, but it was figured at retail, not cost. So the $300 of stuff I got for working Games Day probably cost them less than $50 or so.

GW stopped running GamesDay about 4 or 5 years ago now. There has always only been one GamesDay a year and that was at the NIA in Birmingham UK. Every "gamesday" not held at the NIA does not have the right to be called a GW GamesDay.

The only GW metro's that could support it in the US are Los Angelese, Baltimore, Houston, and Chicago. Possibly Seattle but I haven't kept up with the store spread up that way. If they move my money is on Chicago as it's also more accessable to Canadians than Texas or Cali.

Nah, NYC could handle it fine. I haven't checked recently, but there were 2-3 GWs in Manhattan alone, and another 2 or 3 spread around the rest of the city/suburbs.

Good, I've been to conferences in Chicago for work. It's easy to get to from most places and it's relatively cheap (compared to NY, etc...) I like Chicago, it's a nice city, though, I've never been to the suburbs.

P.S.
