I know no one is probably reading this thread any more but if you're a dog lover or Lab lover i've actually got my Lab on facebook! I know it's sad but he needs all the friends he can! just search for Oscar mallinson and befriend a lab today! he's really very nice and is all for Labs against violence! especially towards Labs!

Unfortunately I don't use face book though if I did I would add him because that must be the only animal I know to have a face book profile. Do you type responses for him?

Um yes cheesecat I actually do type responses from him as if he were typing he gets a bad rap and people never approach him because he's big and black and quite intense! and it's probably got something to do with our other dog, a beautiful snow white samoyed female who gets ALL the attention when we go out! so i made his page to make some friends for him he is sitting next to me at the moment and he says he loves your avatar...is that your mum?

Interesting discussion - my $0.02's:

Any dog can be dangerous if not trained correctly (see my avatar for a late, great and very docile Newfoundland, technically physically 'dangerous'; 160 pounds of muscle and inch-long teeth that could easily crack through bones... and yet the most gentle soul on earth - he would let a small child take his favourite toy out of his mouth without protest)

HOWEVER - there are some breeds that have been specifically bred for the purpose of fighting. A purpose which nowadays is both illegal and unnecessary. We bred them that way, so we now have the responsibility to breed out / dilute those attributes (centuries), or to discontinue that genetic line (a couple of decades). Anyone who would not want to change this bred-in aggressive baseline (regardless of how it can be mitigated by good training) should have a long hard look at their motives.

Rather than seizing and destroying existing 'dangerous' dogs (dogs originally bred for fighting), which would sweep up well-trained dogs as well as problem dogs and upset a lot of otherwise-responsible owners, I'm all for a ban on breeding them in the first instance. That way, after about 15 years, the only dogs left would be those who have been bred by people who know that they are breaking the law, and therefore likely have malicious intent.

Putting my money where my mouth is - if the number of incidents of injury / violence associated with a breed of dog that I owned made them no longer acceptable to society, then I would accept that I would not be able to own that type of dog in future. I would expect that the current, well-trained dog that I owned could be kept, but that I would have to have it neutered to prevent any future breeding, and would have to look for a different breed for my next pet. I would not have a problem with this, and support the way that this has been done with Pits in the UK.

But he looks so cute and lonely and that picture, why are people afraid of your black lab I use to have a golden lab and it was the best (and only so far) dog I had. She extremely well

behaved, she listened well, she would never eat her own fecal matter, attack, bark at people or drink out of the toilet. If she ran off she would always return home later in the day

sleeping on the lawn, she also barked if someone rang the doorbell which was handy if you were downstairs where it's hard to hear the bell (she barks at thunder too). The only bad

thing she ever done was eat your food if you weren't watching as she would climb up onto the table and grab your meal. Also I don't know what's creepier a dog attracted to a busty

female in pink underwear, a guy who pretends to be his dog on facebook or the fact that I have this as my avatar (and no she's not my mom).

Ah cheesecat you are funny! i don't know what is sadder! but I'd put my money on a guy who pretends to be his dog on facebook! and Oscar honestly loves your avatar, he was sitting next to me on the couch and kept sniffing at it, so I made him go and make me a latte (he is a fantastic barrista) he does look lonely in the photo he's not very photogenic as he's so black it's hard to get a good shot, and I don't know why people are scared of him? but if you see issabella our samoyed you'd know why they ignore him when we go walking! she's like a movie star strutting around always smiling and looking like everyone loves her! ah it makes me sick!

Thanks nerdfest09. What kind of responses and personality do you give your dog and also does your Samoyed have a profile too? For some reason I prefer Black Labs over Samoyeds so Oscar would probably be getting the most attention from me. Is it strangers or people you know who are afraid of Oscar? Do you prefer Oscar over Isabella (it seem that way at least )?

I don't see anything it just says this image has been moved or deleted.

It says alot about a man how he treats animals. They are pretty much defenceless and they cant tell on us. I dont think anyone teaches honor or mercy really anymore. You know the sad part is animals do feel. I didnt see the video and I wont I'm sorry. how would we feel if we were surrounded by friends and they didnt help you or laughed while you died; dying alone.Sorry Nerdfest that you had to see that.
