If they were going to do a live action film, they would have to reinvent the rating system. They wouldnt let the film be released with the current system.

Its straight to dvd cgi film, its never gonna be on a par with any of the recent epics
so just appreciate it for what it is. A bunch of well respected and pretty famous actors
blowing stuff up for the emperor.

1500pt-first completed 40k army
2000pts- main army, my own army with its own colour scheme and fluff, heavily converted

Why would it mess the rating system up?

40K may be violent and gory, but i am sure Texes Chainsaw massacre is gorier and The Haunting more disturbing.

IDK why the original DoW games were rated M. Blood, yes, but it was simply splatter which is in alot of Teen rated games.

IMO Ultramarines will be on the fence between R and PG-13. My guess is PG-13.

and When you think about it marines should bleed as gorily as humans will. Larramen cells clot within seconds so prolonged bleeding is nearly impossable.

Im not talking about gore, its the warp, the horror that would have to be conveyed on screen to even come close to some of the novels would have to be a whole new level.

Just add in some wierd colors and shapes. maybe some Illusion pricipals(is it a vase or 2 faces?)

I assume you have played DoW2. Whenever the ship enters warp space its like a whirlpool into nowhere. and its pink and purple

From your post it looks like you think it would break the Rating system. if they rated on a curve( o the shananigins ) then it would mess it up

Well, you might be able to find Youtube of the scene.

you see it about 2-frikkin-million times over the course of the game.

the Strike Cruiser is infront of this giant Purple Whirlpool, it gets sucked in with lightining coursing over the hull. pretty epic.

i just heard on the web that the awesome cgi opening movies for the multi player online star wars knights of the old republic game . they contracted the cgi work out to a company to do them . 1 million dollars a min! thats why the ultramarines movie could never be that quality . for al those that were crying about the low grade cgi . a million a min is mind boggling!

GAME OVER MAN ! check out my blog http://mattrendar.blogspot.com/?m=1

yeah, contrary to popular opinion, GW doesn't have that kind of money.

yes they make millions a year, but they spend it all on RnD(paying jervis to write the BA codex. yes, he was paid to do that) and expanding their business.

I give it 2 chaos stars out of 4. Hopefully that was only a taste, and they increase CGI for final copy. Otherwise this does not bode well for the far future.

I doubt the CGI will be much better, but what do you expect from a brand new company on a shoestring budget? Just be pleased they are finally making a 40k film, people will sit up and take notice once this film is out, it will pave the way for 40k to break into the mainstream cinema industry and rip out its heart with a rusty, growling, chainaxe.

Of course, it also means that people will see the films, be like "Hey, I want to play that" and then we have more people to play with.

Of course, half of them will be battle wagon jumping bastards who proxy Sphess Mahreens as Dark Eldar, SW, BA, Orks, Guard, etc.

The problem is the new players will mostly be playing as Ultramarines.

and that will be different from how it is now because......

@Cheez

you really expected high level graphics?

like nickmund said, we really need to be happy that the movie exists at all.

if it sells well, and i belive a movie should be sold on story NOT on how it looks, then they will make more. as it takes off the graphics will improve.

besides they weren't that bad were they?

If it all goes well for the ultramarines movie then the next one they make will be Beowulf quality CGI.

It was hard to do, but we have to be objective.

Sorry to say it, but the faces looked pretty bad... as for the animation itself, it looked like an improved Chaos Gate ;P

Nah perhaps that's an overstatement... But it seems to me as if Dawn of War 2 probably had more money spent on its intro cutscene than this movie has as an overall budget! Compare the two, this look pretty grim...

the intro was about 4 minutes long, i will bet they paid a few million for it.

Games make their cost back fairly quickly.

movies take longer and you need to keep that level of graphics up for the entire 70 minutes.
