I feel the intro to DOW1 had better graphics. And that was an awful intro.
I believe you are very outspoken.
I wish it had the GFX made by blur, the ones like in the dow2 intro. Thatd make a great movie.

Whoa whoa whoa, saying they looking nothing like space marines is a bit harsh. I think the helmets look a little weird to me. Maybe its the mouth vents or something but they just look off. I think the rest looks pretty good. But yea, the movie looking like the DOW2 intro would be some serious badass looking movie.
But Im still holding onto it turning out to be a good movie. Just wait and see. You nay sayers will eat your words

Looks like Dawn of War cinematic graphics. Not really impressed with how the marines looked. They were too blocky and cartoonish looking.

I liked it.
I hope it comes out in theaters, at the very least, the exposure would be good.
And most movies make money via DVD release. A DVD is cheap, a copy of the movie able to play in a theater? Expensive... not to mention the theater and sponsors get a cut of it.
DVD kinda cuts out the middleman.
And idk about doing the WHOLE heresy, that would just take too long. I can see 5 movies.
1. Intro, Horus turns, purges his and other legion ranks.
2. Space puppies v. 1k sons.
3. Istvaan drop site massacre and the Eisenstein.
4. The Schism on Mars.
5. THE MOST EPIC BATTLE EVAR!!! The Battle of the Imperial Palace and the aftermath.
That would be the Horus Heresy series IMO. And then come the End Times. Probably starting with either the 13th black crusade or coming of Hive Fleet Behemoth.

So many mixed emotions watching that. Shock, laughter and then that depression feeling when you realise that wasn't a joke.
Iv worked in the 3D industry for a number of years, Iv been a character animator, but anyone watching that trailer has to face palm.
Go watch some Blizzard or Dragon Age cinematic's. The quality is far better and those are just computer game movies.
GW want to create an actual 3D movie? It looks like GW is going cheap and crappy on us again.
As for the HH, GW would really need to pull their act together to pull that giant off.

Ya CGI could use work, it's not horrible, but it's pretty standard fare.
But the actual human faces are horrible... he looks like an old man, not a battle-hardened, steroid-fueled, 7ft tall man in 10ft tall suit of armor, killing machine that we want!

my veiw is , the DOW intros look better . they cost a lot of money . most video game companies dont do there intros , most of the time there shipped out to movie effects studios and CGI movie effects houses . we all remember mechwarrior 2 amazing mech battle intro on the pc mid 90s . that was done by digital domain stan winstons effects company . so the point is very costaly for 30 sec . this is a full movie . so GW turned to the company that did the lego bioancle movies . a lot cheaper for a strait to DVD release . so ill make do as long as the plots 4ok . but with dan abbnett . we should be good . i love his marine novel brothers of the snake . so i can stomach the CGI until peter jackson comes along and makes the herasy films . LOL . besides its not men in costumes rite? if you've forgotten check out those movies on you tube . and ultra marines will start not looking so bad.....my sons excited! thats a plus for me!he keeps asking me if its appropriate for him . hes only five . im going to sneak this one past the wifey . come on hes got a spacemarine army. its only fair.

I'd say it won't matter, he's only five, he won't understand it, until years later and then it all makes sense.
Trust me, I had the same experience with Titanic and George of the Jungle. As a kid, didn't understand anything, just seemed funny. Except for Titanic, couldn't stomach it, then I got old enough to get it.

Read the pages on the website. The people doing the animation are the same ones who did Assasins Creed 2 and GTA. Hopefully, the trailer is just a bit of groundwork.

Why can't they use motion capture and use real actors, just cgi the armor over them? I mean if a movie studio was willing to put money into "Sky captain and the world of tomorrow" 40K should be able to find funding for a movie with good cgi.

I got a little interested in this a while back when they told us who the voice talent was. That talent seemed to hold up pretty well in the trailer but everything else was pretty crappy... not just wooden animation but the visual style - it seems every time 40K is realised it ends up flat and grey.

That has absolutely nothing to do with how the film industry works. Most movies aiming for a cinema release will not make much money on DVD, basically if they don't make it to cinemas they lose money. If they do make it cinemas and don't do well in the first few days they lose money. DVD sales won't save them.
That said, there is a market for straight to DVD movies, these are made for low cost and aimed at a niche market that isn't too fussy about production values. From the look of the first trailer that's exactly the business model Space Marine is following.
|
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

70 minutes is pretty impressive considering it's a first try. if i was starting out i would make a seris of 30 minute films to guage a response level.
@DiRT52: it will be only avaliable on the Ultramarines website at first. i imagine it would eventually be on the GW site and in their stores.

That was pretty good, I thought. Not amazing, but then I wasn't expecting an instant classic. After all, that would be like expecting your average BL novel to rival, say, the Great Gatsby or Catch-22.
I expect this to turn out to be a bit of fun, and a halfway decent action film. I'll be satisfied with that, I think.
