Don't GK have vindicare assassin that has a sniper that does 3D6 pen and is ap1. Surely that is good against tanks?

If I'm remembering correctly (and I may be confusing it with his old rules), he can only fire that once per game. Plus, I think it's 3d6 penetration without any baseline str, which is not all that great at taking out tanks.

From GW Codex Wicthhunters FAQ:
"Q. How does the Vindicare’s turbo-penetrator
round work in regards to rending?
A. Because sniper rifles are rending, when rolling
for armour penetration, the Vindicare gets to add
a D3 to the total for each dice that comes up a
six. So, if one of the three dice is a six, the total
penetration would be 6+2D6+D3+3 (giving a
result between 12 and 22); if two were sixes, the
total would be 12+1D6+2D3+3 (18 to 26); if all
three dice were sixes, the total would be
18+3D3+3 (24 to 30!). Almost certainly
enough…
"

And yes, the reason the current incarnation of the Vindicare sucks is that the super awesome sniper only has ONE of each magic bullet. I could tell many a tale on how the b?€tard missed that one shot that really counted for the battle...

But you have to agree that he would be a little bit overpowered/underpriced if he would dish out tons of BS 5 Turbo-Penetrator rounds during the whole game. Such AT-Firepower would even put a Broadside to shame ...

But yeah, he should always wound on 2+ with AP 2, that would really increse his effectiveness. But I still believe that he's a viable option, IMO the best together with the callidus. But as he'll never try to get into CC he won't die thanks to charging through cover while missing frags...

He costs a ton of points but if you take the advantages of a cheap allied lord inquisitor (psychic hood with unlimited range + mystics) and the vindicare it can be a quite fluffy and still viable option. Too bad that all of these things (including the Vindicare :( ) will likely be gone with the new GK 'dex...

Dark it was, and dire of form
the beast that laid them low
Hrothgar's sharpened frost-forged blade
to deal a fatal blow
he stalked and hunted day and night
and came upon it's lair
With sword and shield Hrothgar fought
and earned the name of slayer
