yeah, but the downside is the Typhoons don't get the double Missile launcher for Free. Tac marines do.

if you have points you should get lascannons on Tac squads as they are the cheapest way to get Lascannons in a SM list, but if you are really tight, or regularly face horde armies, you should always go for the missile launcher and it will always have an answer for any target.

How is the ML free? You have to spend 80 points to get the 10 men in the first place.

5 marines + typhoon speeder is 180 points
10 marines is 170 points.

You get effectively 3 heavies in the first option, and 1 heavy and 1 special in the 2nd option.

The ML is not "free" for a tactical squad, but rather built in the cost of purchasing it.

Nothing is free.

I suppose you are correct.

but is having those 5 bodies bad?

That's what I'm saying! The only way you can answer a question as to which is more important, is in the context of the specific list.

What do you need more, 5 more scoring bodies or more heavy weapons?

Therefore 5 man tactical squads are not automatically bad, but rather you need to take the context into account. Taking 5 man tacticals is a choice with benefits and penalties just like any other.
