Vanguard veteran squad Fennon- 700
Total cost- 2686 points!!!
(and I actually have this lot! apart from the captain of the 6th, which i am getting before X'mas  )

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

but you can't use HQ choices.
As for the power blob v. space wolves, assuming they all have storm shields, they lose 2 wolves a turn from power weapons (then there's the rest of the squad...). More importantly, the loss of every wolf decreases the killing power by 10%, while the power blob doesn't start losing it's serious killing power until you reduce it by 45 models
Plus, I think it's easy to overestimate the damage caused by super-units. A terminator with a thunder hammer and a storm shield still only puts down, what 2 attacks? That's 1 guardsman a turn, or 1.6 with 3. A blob can EASILY outlast that kind of damage.
And for the record, a 55-dude power blob costs 525 points, so it BETTER whomp ass.

Here is a unit that can beat down the blob:
7x BA assault term/5x lightning claw & 2x th/ss
Chaplain
Sanguinary Priest/power sword
On the charge:
5x 4 attacks from lightning claws = 20 attacks, 18 hit w. rerolls, 18 wound
8x power weapon attacks (Chaplain & Priest) = 8 hit w. rerolls, 5 wounds
6x thunderhammer attacks = 6 hit w. rerolls, 5 wounds
So 28 dead guardsmen on the charge.

Exactly. 525 points. A 30-man Ork w/ Klaw Nob comes in at 215 points. You can get the better part of two mobs for that one unit. And those two mobs will ANNIHILATE the blob squad with almost contemptuous ease. I know this whole thread is 'post your mashiest unit' but when you start comparing units to each other you HAVE to take the points into consideration.
Claiming the blob is the be-all-and-end-all of CC effectiveness is just incorrect. They're a tarpit; it just so happens that you can give them power weapons so they do a little bit of return damage.

I think genestealers can take on pretty much an equal amount of points of anything. A super 50 man power blob with 5 commissars decked in power swords equals ~40 genestealers. Those guardsmen are dead. Same for termies, berserkers, blah blah. A lot is also dependant on who charges.

Sword Brethren assault terminators same cost with lightning claws but they have furious charge giving them S5 I5 on the charge with 4 attacks re-rolling misses (if you have an empy's champion) and failed wounds

Not really. By odds an equally costed unit of Crushers will run over boyz, especially if the Crushers charge.

10 Blood angel assault terminators. 7 with TH/ SS and 3 with LC's, with an attached sanguinary priest in terminator armour and terminator chaplain with crozius and storm bolter.
Thats 21 re-roll to hit str 9 pw attacks on the charge to start off with. Then you have 12 reroll to hit and to wound str 5 power weapon attacks at ini 4 to back that up, plus the extras from the ICs. But then again thats with ICs isnt it.... ok rethink
5 Imperial fist assault terminators with TH/ SS. Stubborn (lysander isnt in their unit, but hes there somewhere  ) and all the other things assault terminators entail.
They are simply awesome in an LR, can beat anything in a fight, tough as nails, and look nice too

Well Ogryns are kinda scary on paper, considering they have a fair chance of beating a Warboss. But it takes up a lot of points in an army that's about taking things in bulk, does poorly in the Mech heavy meta game, and are a rather inflexible unit.
