No, I know that it isn't. I'm simply pointing out that any post that begins "OK, here is a rant about X" has set the tone for some warhams drama... especially when it's something that many people do. They will naturally be on the defensive. I'm just counterpointing you, in that if people are going to say things like "how do I know it's not shopped" etc, it personally disinclines me from posting any more pictures of my army - especially when I get PM's like I did a while ago saying that my minis are a lot better now, is someone else painting them? (answer: no, but since I started out 3 years ago new to the hobby, unsurprisingly I've gotten better with practice).

Which is (personally) another reason I've never posted a full army picture - they are inconsistently painted. My early work is mingled in with my better recent stuff.

In any event, when someone has a signature block army without pics, others have posited that they aren't painted (or don't exist). To which I say, it's equally likely they either don't have a camera, or don't care enough to take a bunch of pictures and upload them.

Until this thread, I had no idea the Army Profiles functionality even existed.

When all is said and done, I love your LED Killa Kans they are awesome... I seriously cannot believe someone had the audacity to PM you and say "Were your minis being painted by someone else now". I would have gone "BANZAI" if someone sent me a PM like that.

P.s. I see you like the A-10, its the choice of the discerning gentleman!

Edit: I'm sorry, but this image breaks two Dakka rules. First, only images directly relating to wargaming should be uploaded directly to Dakka. Others should be linked from other hosts. Second, this image contains profanity, which is also against Dakka's rules. -The Mgmt.

Whoops fair one, funny picture though.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

when I made the comment about photosopping, it was in jest.
It was just a whimsical thought that I thought might also amuse others. It was not intended as a slur on any one and was not meant to put people off posting

Am sorry if the post could be interpreted that way
many apologies.

A real question, how many gamers actually keep a track record? I have been playing since I was 12 and would probably have a track record like this- W-150 L- 300 D- 250 unfinished games due to time or arguments- 5,000.

i have a mental general picture but don't actually keep hard statistics. back in third edition, my speed freaks orks won the vast majority of objective type games and lost a majority (although not vast) of VP games. currently, my blood angels win most of their games regardless of type. my deathwing and tau are really a 50/50 crap shoot that is decided in the first 2 turns (either i have really good turns that the opponent can't recover from or they the opposite and they auto-lose). my IG and aliennids haven't been played enough yet to get an accurate number.

the only numbers i kept were regarding my brief dally into the space wolves who netted me 5 losses and 1 win (i had HORRIBLE rolls in all 6 games, with 4 mark of the wulfen guys in each game and a total of 30+ rolls for attacks and my highest ever was a single 3!!). i also killed a rune priest with perils tests every game (about 1/3 of my tests resulted in them). i also had 6 plasma weapons in each game and i'd lose 1-2 of them every 1st round of firing. my luck was horrible with space wolves, lol.

I have a rough estimate. It's hard to say though because I typically remember which lists I do well with and which I did not so much. It's not about hard wins/losses, it's about if I feel a list failed me, or I failed the list. Off the top of my head, I'd say I have very roughly about a 50% W/L ratio, probably a little less due to experimental lists.

I think daedalus and Ouze are exactly right that many gamers are into the game but sadly not that into painting. Some of these players still have large collections of minis, and may even field them in big games that they enjoy, even if their force is largely primer-only.

Setting up a large collection of minis and photographing them is kind of a PITA, especially if you're not in the habit of posting pictures online. Ouze didn't know about the Army Profiles, and I think a fair number of our posters (sadly) don't frequent the Gallery and/or aren't aware that they can upload their wargaming pics right to Dakka. Imagine if you had 5000pts of marines, and did use them sometimes in big battles with friends, but only 1500 or 2000pts were painted, for tournaments. Would it necessarily seem worth the time or effort to photograph them all? To some folks yes; to others, no.

------------------

Regarding W/L/D sigs, some folks like to track their games. Some folks think it gives them greater credibility when posting about tactics and/or tournaments.

To answer the question of "who is losing all these games", the obviously answer is "people who aren't posting." People who lose all the time are, perhaps, less likely to be so enthused about the game as to post online. Or at least, less likely to brag about it in their signature even if they do.

There may also be some mututally-supporting factors at work, where players who aren't that into the game aren't inclined A) to post about it, or B) to study the game and get better, which can include reading & posting online.

On a historical trivia note, Dakka Dakka, back when it was attached to the old Dakka store, had a site feature/software package called Dakka Stats that Russ Wakelin (now of the DG Generation podcast) built. It tracked league and tournament games played at Dakka, kept detailed records of every player and how they did with every army.
It awarded you ranks with your armies once you had certain numbers of games- like you were a Veteran with your Space Marines once you had 10 games in. Or a General once you had 50 games recorded. Or a Warmonger once you had 100 games or more in with a given codex!

It also compiled the data into cool other uses, like being able to see how (in aggregate) Space Marines did, or how often Eldar won or loss against Orks, overall. It even recorded what mission you played, so you could see if Chaos did better in Cleanse or in Dawn Assault! The player pages also gave you cool other data- like telling you who your Nemesis was (defined as the player who had beaten you the most times), and who your Archrival was (defined as the player you had played against the most often).

Russ also made this service available to other clubs and stores, and I remember 2-3 others, at least, used to use it. Dakka Stats would track those guys separately AND together, so we could compare records with those other clubs. It also tracked other games, including WFB, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmaster, and briefly the collectible card game when it first came out.

We used to quite enjoy it. I remember that one of our diehard league members had made custom T-Shirts for everyone who earned the Warmonger title, with a nickname for each of us. A few of us also raced to be the first to have 100 games recorded; then the first to have 300 games recorded.

I was really bummed when Russ no longer had time to support it, even though I (when I took a turn as a league administrator) saw that it was a bit of a pain to enter in all the data.

Nowadays I don't really track my record. As someone else noted, if you've got a very high percentage, you're probably not facing the best opposition. Overall I have a pretty high percentage (probably over 85% or 90%), but that's including everyone. If I just track the really tough competitive players I face, I'm much closer to 50%.

Perhaps I was just being oversensitive to what was clearly a joke. Sorry about that.

I've gotta say this has been a very useful thread all around. I'm definitely going to build an army profile now.

That actually sounds _REALLY_ awesome. That would allow you to track all kinds of trends in which armies seemed to have an edge up on one-another. I was actually sitting here thinking about how hard it would be to implement a system like that available for online public use. Undoubtedly you'd have to tie it to some sort of users accounts and do something to keep people from owning multiple accounts to boost their wins. You'd also need the loser to confirm the loss to prevent abuse. It seems like it would take a large amount of work to keep it accurate. I imagine having a moderator who entered all the information manually himself would be just as nerve wracking. Sadly, I can see why it was dropped.

On a note about the whole win\loose sig; if you play a tourney armie then by all means should win a lot. If you're more of a fluff army then you may loose more. The whole sig on your win\loose is a bit of a joke to me. My 2 cents.

In regards to large armies, once you add titans and super heavies your points shoot up quickly. Mind you from what Iv seen the armies have been mainly the norm troops and mechs. Amazing.

I think my painted army is about 100points give or take. I got lots in boxes though.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

The sigs I like to see are the tournament placements like the one in Mannahnin's. Those are really classy and kind of read like warzone's you've been in. Like two tours in 'nam. No disrespect to actual veterans intended.

Could be a bit cool sigging "I just got back from 'Nam."

Not so cool when you explain that it was in fact a tour of Cheltenham, Glocester.

It was. I so miss Dakka Stats. :(

It made the league games a lot more fun too because you'd not just be playing for a place in the league, but potentially against your Nemesis!
