This is a bit of rant so forgive me... I hate those Signature blocks that say
10,000pts IG army pure Mech etc etc
5000pt All biker Ork army etc etc

But the poster doesn't put up any pictures of their Armies. Its like the ultimate phantom army, its not that I want people to substantiate their claims its just I would love to see some the extreme end of army collecting. I for one cannot create a mental picture of just how many Imperial Guard models 10,000pts is, although i guess its alot. Digitial Camera's have been around for about a decade now and most people have access so come on guys and gals lets get our Armies up on Dakka.

I don't understand the points value myself. I have 2,000 pts of chaos or if I kitted them out unnecessarily I would have 5,000 points so what do the really have? 5 models that are maxed out points wise?

Yeah thats another point, does the pts include every single expensive upgrade maxed out? Or is it just the base value without upgrades.

as someone who has taken "glamor" shots of his armies, it's a pain in the ass and i only collect on average to at least 2.5k for each army i start (it's usually what i can actually fit in a GW double case that is the upper limit... i've got 2.5k of IG and tau but 5k of marines due to their higher point cost). if you actually go through the trouble of properly storing your minis, making space and taking them out (as well as putting them back) is a decent amount of work. i can't imagine the space/time (lol) necessary to properly photograph 10k IG. that being said, i do think people *should* go through the trouble if they've painted their armies.

i think a large part of this is that there is a large portion of the 40k player base that buy/play but never do any hobby work except for assembly for various reasons. they still consider themselves *fill in the army* players but they're not going to go advertising that they don't paint. there isn't much incentive to take pics of your 10k of chaos daemons if they're all just bare metal and plastic outside of future pics for ease of trading them away or ebay auctions. you'll just get comments asking why you don't spend some of your time/money getting them painted instead of acquiring more.

i don't sig point costs but i did mention some in my previous posts. for me, the points i list are simply the way i field the models (all WYSIWIG). i generally make all-comers lists and don't vary my points too much outside of an occasional extra armor on a vehicle or some grenades on a character.

Yeah but I am proud of my armies, I might not be a good painter but I will never decry another for not painting or feeling their work is not good enough. I only got better due to the help of Dakka and its tutorials. We should positively encourage people to engage with all aspects of the hobby, no one should be afraid to paint or model we all start some where I will always support new talent and develop their abilities and help people along I refer you to my other posts this year...

We should all encourage as many people as possible to take up painting, just look at all the techniques we have discovered in the last 25 years. Its awesome.

I think I've got pics of most of my (painted) models in my gallery, so there. Also, I think my points values are for "as equipped" or "as normally fielded", rounded off to be an approximate value (except the Khador army, natch).

i always get a hoot out of win/loss records in sigs...

I hope I never run into all these strategic masterminds with 750-0-2 records...

normally i don't like "show me your *blank*!" threads in the P&M area but maybe someone should start a thread where you post a *single* pic of each army to show them off in their full almost apocalypse scale glory. allowing people to post 10 pics of individual units somewhat defeats the purpose, though. i don't think i could sleep at night if i started the thread, but i could if i just posted in it.

For my points I don't kit them out unecessarily or other wise I would have higher numbers. I just do what I would regularly equip them with to run them effectively.
The reason I don't have pictures showing mine off is that I don't consider mine to have a note worthy paintjob. Yeah nice paint jobs are cool but 10 pages of table top quallity Ultramarines aren't.

but a single pic of them all together (which would necessarily be zoomed out so table top paint quality looks just as good as master painted) would be worth seeing.

It's probably because they are not painted.

I've noticed that in so many conversations with gamers who use I have X points in ,whatever. army. When asked, how much is painted? They usually mumble and slink away. Those who calculate how many points they own usual aren't disciplined painters, so the only impressive sounding stat becomes how many points it's worth.

I generally disregard those numbers as internet smoke.

I don't hate you, I just hate the fact you haven't posted a nice army picture on your kitchen table, battlefield etc.etc.

Okay it took me about 10mins to setup, 2 mins to photo and another 5mins to upload but hey its worth it.

I'd want at least 500 guardsmen on the table and no less than 8 leman russes too call it true 10,000 point list If it turns out to be like 1oo units of veterans, they should go die

Well I hope you're not expecting them to post a picture of their army every time they post or anything. It does suck when people don't have pictures, but I'm not going to bust anyone's balls over it.

No, I'm up for some Ball breaking on this one otherwise we are condoning stupid claims like 500,000 pts of IG and it contributes nothing to the hobby. We jump on Thread necromancy like its Heresy but silly claims in their signature blocks are tolerated, if people do have these numbers prove it with a Photo i will be the 1st to congratulate them.

No its the points claims i get annoyed with. not the little icons for what you collect, thats fine. Fair point on the link in my thread, if anyone wants to break my balls over that i'll live with out it..

If this works this should be a picture of my biggest army in each system. My Warriors of Chaos on the left and my Ultramarines on the right. Sure some of the stuff isn't painted yet, but it does get worked on.

My numbers in my sig are always WYSIWYG and conforming to my current list, because I do not proxy and only use something if I have the model for it (even if it means I can not use as many plasma and meltaguns as I want). I do not post pictures of most of my army because about a quarter of them I consider to be horribly painted, because they were the first miniatures I painted and I also do not like how my tanks came out.
I just like posting my army's point value because it gives me a sense of accomplishment as it gets higher.

Well, I use to have the points value in my sig, but I took that out...I forget what the total is on this army but its up there. Fluff wise it is a full crusade of templars.

Since this has become an army show-off thread, these are the armies I've built for fifth edition. (ETA, points values are as I play them and EVERYTHING is WYSIWYG)

here's my contribution. they're not 10,000pts unless you add them! the point values are pretty much WYSIWIG and exactly as i field them normally (in fact, most of the army pics come from my battle report threads).

The point I was trying to make:

Too distant (N°1) or too close (N°2) won't let you see much, 'birdview' (N°3) and additional pieces ( swappable weapons for example ) may get a correct impression
of the size of x- amount of points across. Randomly picked some pics for this, quality may not be up to dakka standards...

Looking forward to many Sig-block armies turning into posted pics here.

In a non boastful way, here are my marines as of Sept, more have been done including 20 scouts, 2 land speeder storms, more hq's more tanks, drop pods, tactical squads etc

and stil lhave 3 more preds, vindi, dreadnoughts, scouts, and some hq's to do. + wip at moment is more bikers to make a full fast attack company of bikers/speeders.

Basically i'm sitting on 5 complete companies. 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 10th. WIP beginning on 6th and 8th.
