indeed. Hmm should really hit this up with a meaningful update, have been batch painting a bunch of arms, very dull. Those of you that have followed the blog or are familiar with the DE models will notice that's how i paint them; body first, arms second. So! Completed warrior squad up at 8.00/9.00pm gmt. Watch the skies.

@Unanything they aren't actually based on the exodite world but that will be made more clear in the final piece of fluff. Lets just say i have something pretty cool in mind for their base of operations. Oh btw Perverse fist is only the new name adopted by the kabal they were once called the Kabal of the Gilded Ejaculate.

@Vik It wasn't a trap in the traditional sense but who knows? Maybe She Who thirsts (Slaanesh) laid it out for the reformed Tendulker.

@Neil excellent wordplay there matey! Oh and if you were quoting A reggae song in your previous post i will have to confess my knowledge only goes as far as 'Pass the duchy on the left hand side'....

Your stuff is looking great Perkustin! I just finally came around to reading your blog comletely, and the Paintjobs are just stunning. I've read the fiction as well, and I have to say, it's smashing. Good work.

Ooooooh... I keep forgetting the exact details. Looking forward to reading the next part of your excellent fluff!

You should have a Trueborn squad that pay homage to their Kabal's old identity - same armour, but with glossy Bleached Bone/Skull White + Shining Gold stains. Or just armour with those colours.

Will be checking that update.

Raider 90% complete (the crew(s) are gonna be the ABSOLUTE last thing i paint in the army, just need to finish the Darklance)
And the warriors 94.78% complete just need to paint the bases and do some touch up work.
With the raiders sail i was attempting a sort of batique/tye dye kinda thing, relatively pleased with how it turned out. My Wych raider's Hull is currently covered in pencil scrawliings as i want it to look more gaudy than the functional warrior's ride. I really wasnt pleased with the warriors till i painted the little pendant things on the arms and the scrunchies red, really 'ties the room together'.....

Tah Dah! C+C Please...

EDIT: I love how on the left you can just see the face of the last warrior, he looks angry...

Nice! I really like the exaggerated "highlight" contrast effects. Looks kind of totemic or something, like Haida totem pole aesthetics. Very dramatic looking, with a great "pop."

Somehow...to me...the Dark Eldar don't seem to be the scrunchie type. Can you imagine a group of DE doing each others hair with scrunchies whilst going over the lastest gossip? Oh the obsenity of it all.

But I know what you mean Perkustin. Your work is just fabulous and that flag of your Raider is stunning. One of my favorite things I've seen so far. Keep coming with more updates please. ^_^

The red and the blue do make excellent spot colours, possibly because they're purer colours (less mixing, titing, shading) than the bone or the cucumber.

The sails are amazing! I love how the crazy totem patterns seem to justify/pull together the layerwork on the armour. What gave you the inspiration for it? It looks like those things Aborigines drew as accounts for their dreams. Is there some kind of story on each sail? The one cellotaped above the two Warriors looks like it could represent the Fall almost, or them running away from the Alpha Legion.

@Unanything. I intentionally drew the snake but i didnt realise until after that it looked like it was about to attack a rather nonchalant looking person. I think i will pretend i meant it to represent the fall as both have a spiral motif (there is a small one on the sellotaped side) which kinda looks like it is sucking everything in.
@Tinfoil Welcome to the 'Bolg' i like how you and unanything pointed out the totemic/aboriginal style. It wasnt necessarily intentional (apart from the sail) but i am glad my work resembles something artistic.
@Bunny even though they appear to have tiny Knives in them surely they are still scrunchies? Hmm but perhaps 'scrunchy' isnt very Dark eldary, i hereby rename them 'HAIR TORMENTORS'...
EDIT: Cheers Scrazz

Very bold, I think they will look awesome as an army all arrayed up!

The colours seem very unreal, which suits the Dark Eldar in a strange way.

And I think "Hair Tormentors" does sound far more scary then "Scrunchies"

am i totally wrong in the head when i think about sweets when looking at your minis?
something in the bone/brown and green/mint look makes my mouth water...sounds stupid? well i guess so too...^^
i think you did a really big kob in your paintwork here...a very 3D kind of look. (tried to avoid the use of the word "plastic" as this might get the wrong impressions..)
i think the red is a good way to give the bunch a bit of accentuation...something to focus on beside the general scheme...
seeing your sail i say very well done, but then i also have to ask you why do the scrounchies in red and then the sail in blue...dont get me wrong, all perfectly brilliantly painted just a thought why the extra color...for what use is the sial anyway? is this a working sail or rather a hightech thing...remember i know next to nothing here about their tech...

*draws hat* cheers, vik

He Perkustin , what a great job , You have done these tiny minis proud , i still dont know how yu managed to pull together brown cream and green and blue but you did, the sail is rather aboriginal, which lends a timeless qulity to the piece, i absolutely love the rear green transition , on the back of the barge, looks like drying paint of different hues. nice touch. i cant help thinking that the centre of the barge is missing a bone pice to tye the front and back together maybe along the bottom of the sail , but then again that would probably throw soemthing else off ;-) can you actually place the models on bases inside the barge? if so i immagine thier helms would do the same job. and speaking about the models , its fair to say i like these even more than the barge , the blue is a great adition and really sets them apart from any basing you will be using, i really cant tell you how cool these minis look in 2d and i am a little jealous of your bold colour scheme , but also inspired. bet they look even better in the flesh , so to speak.

They do!

For those that might think that the sharper nature of directly seeing something as opposed to seeing an image of something might reveal the imperfections of the layerwork, it doesn't. Just makes the models more atmospheric.

I some times think that , my models look good in the flesh , ( from a distnace ;-))but when revealed up close in photos look pretty rubbish, i have often wondered if some of the more subtle colour schemes that look good on dakka , lose out in real life.

The raider kit comes with the option for 3 warriors hanging off the side, also the crew will eventually add some flavour. Funnily enough the raider is quite a small model it suffers somewhat from 'Rhino syndrome'. However judging from the artwork/concept dark eldar are fine to travel as long as there are a few places to hold on.

The raider could do with a tiny bit of red but i couldnt think of what to paint on the model. Part of the reason is i'm not great at detail work hence the lack of gemstones, which perhaps could have added a little red.

The models themselves sometimes look a little blobby under intense light but under normal conditions (especially natural light) they look quite pleasing.

Got my Tau Today, I must say the Devilfish is an astoundingly beautiful model, it looks fantastic. I will be using them as therapy miniatures incase i get annoyed with the deldar. I also bought myself some good quality brushes and a load of pots for my Custom mixes... Am tempted to pot all the highlight stages for the green as it is quite the chore mixing 'em...

I also have to repaint the Archon as unfortunately the varnish ruined his paint job (in hindsight i think i may have dropped him while it was drying).

So the count is: One raider (will be bone and burgundy tribal on the Prow, only the sail will be minty cucumber) One Ravager (perhaps like the raider but with alternating bone and green), 1 venoms (One conversion finished), the last five trueborn. And then that will be a finished 1000points.

Then i have ALOT of work for 1500 and 1850, annoyingly it means buying another raider. I wanted to say i had finished getting models until the talos and Voidraven are released but not so....

Personally, I would've though maybe a clothe strip wrapped around the hair several times and held in place with those knifey pin things. But 'Hair Tormentors' is beyond perfect for a name. I want a Hair Tormentor. o_O Perhaps we should mass produce them and sell them to all the Warhammer junkies out there...

Hi there just a mini update with a couple WIPs.

First of all a WIP of the final installment of the 'Dowager Empress' this tells of Tendulker's return to the 'Tantamount' and his Kabal. This is probably about a Quarter of it as i need to cover alot of ground with Tendulker's 'Arc' in this last Act....

His blade had hesitated, an inch from her skin, on the cusp of penetration. Next time he would not exercise celibacy, he would leave her wrecked and ragged, no more than meat.

Tendulker reclined dispassionately at the Helm of the small starship, shy of the controls he held a cruel blade in his limp hands. Bringing the Jagged edge close to his face he proceeded to run it gently against his lower lip and chin. His thin serpentine lip quivered with dull arousal as the power field kissed and blistered in return. The Ethnarch had given the ship, better to ensure the forsaken cousin banished. There had been not slither of guilt as he had watched the disappointment etch upon the ancient semi-crystalline face.

The delicate controls glowed an expected message, he stroked a finger across the dials, the screen still hummed gently from the previous tone, he had arrived. Ruined ships crested it like a halo of driftwood, the Tantamount; his home, his sophomore place of exile. Ships of a myriad were silhouetted against a nebulous backdrop; Mon'keigh, Rhesh, Barghesi and the elegant ships of his cousins. To his disgust Tendulker also spotted his own amongst the clutter, serrated prows of pain perfected. They had been frittered away by ineptitude. With barely a glimmer of effort he navigated the debris and made contact with the cradled city.

Stolen from Craftworld Eyryatiné 2000 years previously the 40 mile square Bio-dome pulsed with excruciating prolonged life. Here his Kabal still made their Nests. Naturally, he docked without qualm nor query, why destroy a house guest? If nothing else it would be impolite.

Okay, those of you who scrolled through that without reading .
Here's the second WIP, it is the three converted incubi (The fourth is 'Vanilla' as i didnt hate his pose). The Backhanded Grip was hellishly difficult to realise but luckily i left enough of an Anchor to pin it. The Middle guy is also a headache as the Model's waste is too narrow, i will most certainly be bulking it out. I am planning to fill in the missing handles as the 'tertiary' grip seems a bit silly to me; there's a reason no culture used any weapon resembling a Klingon warblade. I now need to begin the main assembly, will have to pin most the arms as i couldn't be bothered boring out the shoulder pads. Remember they are still to get there little Trophy rack things, so dont look quite as imposing as they should (the blobs of blue tack hardly help )

A general overview:

Spoiler:

Composed to look cool:

Enjoy....

Wow, I can't believe I haven't seen this before. The sails on your raiders look amazing! And I may have to steal your colouring on your raiders (how you have the prow brown like that and the rest green, though I'd do different colours). I've been struggling to find a way to paint them in any kind of pattern that works.

I must say, your particular painting style is unique, and it works quite well.

Edit: Oh, and the backhand Incubi conversions look awesome.

i have to say i cant see the blades in action of these warriors... these meathooks must stay be getting cought whenever they try to use them... well as the rule of cool you win with sailing colors i am certain of this but with the reality of blades your chaps would be in deep trouble with the second slash to be happening...

the story is well written but for me there is a bit of a problem to discern when dream and reality change...maybe you could use italics for innermonolog and dreams? that way would help a lot as this sttory is far more clorful and enchanted than the recruits tale...

Since these take inspiration from Chinese sabre-fighting techniques I don't think they'd have a problem, especially since they are probably better with their blades than a Chinese ever was with a dao. The one with the blade over/behind his head could duck his head while he brings it round (probably how he got it there in the first place), or cut round in the opposite direction.

i was just refering to the hooked nature of the blades... if they were totally sleek and not with hooks then they would be the edge of coolness... well they are also cool with edges but without i see even myself slashing about....

the poses look for me very natural and full of motion...natural in all respect...

I get you Vik, though the hooks look cool. What annoys me is that the incubi have these dumb wrist blades that i think would constrict movement. Only a couple of them still have them now, as they have been replaced by unadorned plastic arms.

I think he means the spikes that are on the side of the forearms on the incubi. They do look rather silly and seem very impractical. I like Perkustin's incubi a lot more
