you're ignoring alot of scenarios. saying there's no reason for an meq squad ever to be within 12 inches of a redeemer is..... a non starter.

look if it were that simple why cant you just say theres no reason to ever have an meq squad within 20 inches of a crusader? or else the other guy is a bad player. in that case both models are useless bc the crusader will never deliver its terminators. you're giving the meq player an ammount of freedom that is not reflective of what happens in real life.

Ill respond in order.
-Then they made a bad choice. LRRs/LRCs are bully units, that's what they do. The only time its a good idea to get close is if you are going to kill them (assuming you can't/haven't killed at range).
-Objectives don't need to be held until turn 5 at the earliest, meaning earliest is turn 3 when you need to start moving in that direction (or turn 4 if there are enough close/you have a mobile contesting unit). That means your opponent can have a few turns to try and immobilize/destroy the LR before being forced to engage it directly
-The transport would have to be very close, which considering you have terminators inside for dealing with passangers, and an assaultcannon and MM for dealing with the vehicle itself, it seems like a mistake to get that close.
-If they just consolidated from an assault, it is not the start of the game anymore. If they have that much to fear from the LRR and havn't neutralized it by mid-game, they are lost already.
-Lastly the only reason that is actually a good one, trying and failing to kill the LR. So either A)you survived when your opponent had a good chance to destroy the LR (meaning you got lucky), or B), your opponent either made a mistake in thinking they had a good chance or are in a bad position such that taking the low chance was the best option they had.

You don't have to let vehicles get closer to you than you want, assuming equal mobility. You can deploy far away and keep distance pretty easily for the first few turns. An LR is a dangerous enough target that it needs to be neutralized or you will lose.

I've presented my take on it pretty thoroughly at this point, so I'll leave it up to the readers to make their own judgements. GL and happy LRing
