Thank god. When I saw him, I thought I turned gay for a moment, but then I realized it was just Cillian Murphy, and all was right with the world.

I don't get why everyone is hung up on the (lack of) story. That isn't what will make Tron cool or not, it's the effects and action, which were paced well and executed well.

No one is asking for Mellville, but it isn;t to much to ask for competence. The original was a slight, airy thing but it was self contained and consistent.

I thought the original was just as nonsensical, throwing around computer terms here and there to keep a theme.
Then again the original is well, a bad movie in many regards. I still think it looks cool, but damn was it boring.
At least legacy is a lot more exciting. But different strokes for different folks I guess.

I don't that Legacy is more exciting. It shoots it's load pretty early (light bikes, disc fighting) and then is fairly vacuous until the light-planes. Of course the terms were not accurate to actual programming, but it didn't need to be really as it was just as much a fantasy world as LotR. They are both about as exciting as each other. This just has nicer graphics. Still, it had rules and stuck with them, as opposed to tossing in half baked theology/philosophy lectures and half formed back story that you needed to buy a video game to make much sense out of. The original film, bad as it was, at least had the decency to be self contained; you didn't need any more than you saw.
Explain to me in a concrete way how the ISO's were going to make the world, and humans, better? It is never really described in a meaningful way. We are just told they were really awesome. An artificial life is cool in and of itself and should have been the focus but they played it out that they were going to save humanity, but how?

Looking as good as Olivia Wilde isn't good enough for you?

I was totally pumped for it, having watched all the trailers and the Daft Punk vid. In the end, I thought it was pretty 'meh'. I almost fell asleep and kinda wanted to leave early. I never really cared about the characters, or wondered how it would turn out, and the Big Lebowski creeping in started to annoy me a little. I thought the 'young' Jeff Bridges also looked creepy and fake.
Also, what the hell were they eating in the dinner scene? Where did they get food?!?

Hell, next to oggling Olivia Wilde (...and that one bit with Cillian Murphy...), that was the best part of the movie for me.
