So FW and GW misspell it? You know this webstore where people buy these resin kits of DKoK and the company from this foggy island which claims to write 40k
background and rules. Won't you take back what you throw out?

I'm pretty sure the 'misspelling' was done intentionally.... just my .02

And achieves what exactly?

When FW lists something as 'krieg' and this item looks like nameless soldiers from the meatgrinder that is trench warfare WW1 style, why should they not
use another word for 'war' to name that item?

'kreig' OTOH, means nothing. Just a typo like these 'rouge' trader..

I don't know what it achieves, but if you haven't realized that GW is unoriginal and super obvious, then you should open your eyes a bit more, that kind of stuff is all over the place. I mean, hell T'au is an intentionall misspelling of Tau (a greek letter), and thats just the most obvious example of many.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Okay so this whole argument has told me that Death Korp of Krieg are indeed, not Nazis.

We also established that the Steel Legion did not have an air force so they OBVIOUSLY are not meant to resemble WW2 german forces.

Anywho, DKoK are a bunch of repentant fanatics similar to the Vostroyan First Born.

Except that DKoK forced the repentance upon themselves and the first born are being punished by the imperium for not tithing troops some time ago.

Or they represent a part of the fighting style of some of WW2 German's army (not airforce), it's just like saying that all british forces looked like those in the Somme, highly inaccurate.

Except they ARE the German Air Force. Not only do they look like it, but their fighting style is representative of a specific element of FJ formations. The 'Steel Legion don't have an air force, so they can't do German blitzkrieg tactics and are therefore not representative of WW2 Germans' argument is invalid. Blitzkrieg wasn't really used after 1941/1942. Nor did the German Air Force really exist as an effective combat force by 1943/1944. And guess what, the mechanized warfare style that the Steel Legion utilize in the fluff was at its peak in 1944, so they really ARE the perfect match for the WW2 German AIR FORCE.

Yeah, pretty much.... except they are not the Heer, but the Luftwaffe.

Weren't the Luftwaffe... in planes? I mean i wasn't there so i don't actually know but... you know being the German airforce and all, it sounds like something they should have been doing... maybe that's why they lost...

Not everyone in the Air Force (any Air Force) is a pilot or works in a plane. During WW2, German paratroopers were organized under the Luftwaffe, with functional command/control under the Army.

purplefood is right!

folks, i think all this is really inaccurate...
with the same amount of precision one could say that - even though they didn't have the mandate for a fighting - the KFOR are a mechanized unit and resemble the Steel Legion!

like discussed in other threads in this forum ( [url]http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/227569.page ), blitzkrieg nowadays is just the historical term for a tactic that was used for the first time by the germans invading poland.
the germans invading poland are not the only mechanized force in the history of war that attacked in this way: if you look up this term in books about war-history, you'll find that this term is also used for tactics the americans used in 1991 in iraq and in other contexts...

sure there are historical allusions or similarities to every force in 40k, but they were blended some other things of totally diffrent historical origins. and also with hollywood, fantasy, star wars, dune (!), stanislav lem, and so on.

folks, if you want to play with minis representing soldiers of ww2 germany, you should play flames of war or some of these west wind production games and not warhammer a fictional wargame!
look at these fow or wwp minis if you think steel legion ARE WWII germans. or if you think dkok ARE WWI germans. you might spot some differences!

p.s.: i always thought the space marines wear flared trousers!

In your cellar...waiting...watching

I think this thread has clearly explained the fluff behind the Krieg but people havent distinguished two key things:

What something LOOKS like

And what it IS

Yes the models are most likely inspired and styled to LOOK like trench soldiers, the fact that their uniforms are grey naturally makes us associate them with the German WW1 persona.
This in no way means that it GW or FW wanted to make a "nazi" or "german" army, but just thought the visuals or the combat tactics were cool
Because taking a step back from the nitty gritty details, 40k IS fantasy, and a bit of fun its a bit worrying to me that people want to jump at calling a race/model/bit of fluff 'nazi' (arent we meant to be interested in 40k because we enjoy it haha)

thats my 2p anyway lol

Dan
