What do you think of the free(ish) 40K 'Spearhead' expansion?
Yes I love it & play it rather often.
I like the concept & have the models, but no one wants to play it with me.
I'd like to play, but I don't really have the right models (and don't want to buy them).
I played it and didn't like it. Won't be playing again.
I play 40K, but I have no interest in trying Spearhead.
I don't play 40K/what's spearhead?

I like the basic game because I'm not in to an all tank game and/or walker.

Love it but no one wants to play ...
6 Wraith Lords with Scatter lasers (they run at you, shooting as they go)
or
3 Falcons with a missile launcher, holofields and a 5+ inv
or
9 War walkers with Str7 Scatter lasers
or
my Revenant Titan
... may be i should just tone them down a bit

I gotta say, I've had some very fun games with these rules. However, I'm a mech guard player...I've got tanks (and sentinels) to spare. Not every player has that kind of build, especially for some races such as Eldar and Orks. Heck, even a infantry-heavy guard player would feel out of place. Finally, Nids and Necron players just feel out of place.

In the end, I think this was a great supplement, but unfortunately a lot of armies don't lend themselves to the concept very well.

Two problems with Spearhead for me;

1. I don't have anywhere near enough Tanks.

2. The Spearhead games I've watched being played just seem like line up tanks then roll dice. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but it doesn't appeal.

I'm sure it would be more fun for Imperial Guard with thier wider variety of vehicles but much more limiting to Orks.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

Answer 3, I played spearhead the other night against some space wolves with my footsloggin' orks, and my kans pummeled his troops down to nearly nothing, and I would've won if I could've gotten to him before turn 6 was up . Alas, he withdrew into the building on his far corner and I was a turn away from assaulting his remaining lines when I realized what turn it was.... I still felt the victor, as his drop-pod termies only took out roughly a dozen boyz before one of my squads kans jumped into the fray. Bye-bye termies.

I know I'm coming late to this thread and at the risk of resurrecting it. I have to say that I really enjoyed Spearhead. We covered it in our latest episode of The Independent Characters and we were surprised at how much of a blast it was.

I agree with CT that I am open to ANY way to play 40k. New ideas like Spearhead are fun and should at least be given a TRY before being discounted.

People might also be surprised at how many tanks are actually required to play. It doesn't really take as many as you would think based on the fluff around it.

Additionally there is more to it than just the rules tweaks. The "Spearhead Rule" itself makes the game quite enjoyable and picks up the pace of it quite a bit.

I was originally not interested in Spearhead at all - now I am a convert. At least give it a try before crapping all over it.

What I'm considering is using the Spearheda deployment type combined with Apocalypse rules. It seems like it could be a very fun game...

I didn't vote. There wasn't one for 'I don't have an army that fits spearhead' as i play necrons.

ARMOURED SPEARHEAD: Gives +5 inv save....cool now everyone is like my DE.

ARCHEOTECH SPEARHED: gives +1 str to all fitted weapons. but on a roll of a 1 its a pent hit on the model and a 2 is glancing.

MONSTROUS SPEARHEAD: Gives a crazy buff to tyranids which is imo more fluffy.

So theres things that I like and dislike But even I have common sense to not play someone or get the rules if I dont wanna play using the charts. I was at first agaist it as I only saw a few charts at first but now that Ive seen the whole list I like the idea. I see things needing to plan and be more logical Then taking a leafblowerIG/draigowing/BA stupidspam Things like that kinda annoy me. lets play a objective game...KILL EVERYTHING AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OTHER PLAYER AND IGNORE THE OBJECTIVE THAN LAUGH ABOUT IT...kinda people and their are alot in my area which is unfortnatly.

Spearhead is Apocalypse, Jr. Feel free to quote this for truth.
It's not a bad idea. It let's you run some of your stuff you normally couldn't in standard FoC. Haven't played it yet, but it's coming.

I have never played nor seen it played. I like the idea of cities of death, even though need tons more terrain, Appocoloups, even though people have $1000+ titans, and spear head looks just the same, with $1000 in tanks on the table.

I am all down for it as I scrap ebay, wash, and green stuff like new custom for 30-40% off normal price.

Where I am, Afghanistan, there are little hobbyist and gamers.

I thought it was a neat concept, but the only person I know who wanted to play it (and he dived into the Spearhead thing head-first) runs mech guard. Which I personally would rather not play in a vehicle-centric game.

I had no interest in playing it.

I didn't have enough tanks/vehicles to make it worthwhile and wasn't interested in getting enough to make it so.

I don't have any interest in 40k anymore. Not BL, not FW, not GW fluff or rules. I gave it 25 years, and now it's just not the game I love anymore.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
